For the adventurous spirit, our river front cottage is nestled on the banks of the Allegheny River-- perfect for boating, floating, fishing and hunting. You will love to just sit back and watch the river roll by.
At the cottage, we offer more than just a vacation getaway. We offer the opportunity for guests to immerse themselves in nature's wonders -- to wake to the sound of songbirds, watch the eagles fly and end the day with the pop and crackle of a campfire, to feel the cool river ripples, to breathe in fresh mountain air and hunt or fish in the Allegheny National Forest. Our Riverfront Retreat is an escape from the ordinary.
We enjoy the cold Steeler season that Pittsburgh, Pa. has to offer but after the season is over we cant wait to take some time off and escape to the riverbanks of the Allegheny. Tidioute offers the best of both worlds. Relaxed river front living which include fishing and hunting on the nearby state game lands. Plus a great place to have family and friends over for a summers day full of fun!!
Gretta Beck purchased this cottage in 2014
We purchased this property mainly based on location: only a mile down the road from State Game lands, water front and Tidioute's quiet small town atmosphere.
The home sleeps 4 comfortably. We enjoy setting tents up down by the river for bon fires, cooking out and listening to the frogs at night. We love to see the turtles sun themselves in the morning the bank and if you are lucky enough to see baby turtles hatch from their nests buried in the yard.
Thank you so much for everything. We really appreciated the wine and chocolates. It was such a wonderful surprise, especially since we can never seem to adjust to Pennsylvania's liquor laws and all the stores were closed as we drove in!
We'd love to come back again, You have a truly lovely place.
This cottage was clean, bright, and comfortable. The owners have done a nice job with decorating and maintenance. The bed was comfortable and towels were plush. The yard was tidy and inviting. It was nice to sit by the rivers edge and read. I just wish that they had remembered to restock the fire making supplies as the indoor fireplace was one of the main reasons I chose this rental over a few others I was considering. There is a fantastic eclectic music library but just a few dvds. The kitchen had a few spices and a selection of pans and utensils that were adequate for my needs. I would consider visiting again in warmer weather so I could enjoy the river more fully.
Amazing stay! Very clean and had everything you needed! We will definitely be back!!
This home is CLEAN! So important to me when staying in these HomeAway places. This home is so COZY and offered all the essentials a home could need and a renter could want! We just loved the little town, did some shopping, wine tastings, and hiking. We will surely stay here again and recommend it highly to everyone!!
This was not our first time staying at Gretta's cottage or our last. She has everything you could want to just sit back an chill. We brought the grand kids this year, and they had a big time being down by the river. The place is awesome an so relaxing. We seen deer everyday an a eagle fishing twice. Just bring some food an a couple cold beverages an you are set. Mrs. Gretta is also so helpful with any questions. We actually stayed 2 days longer than we booked. Town is close by an have a couple bars with good food an drinks. Always fun for me to have a couple of drinks with the local folks. They have always treated us nice. Thanks Gretta. Be back next year.
This cabin is very well maintained and a great place to stay if you're looking to kayak or canoe down the Allegheny river or just enjoy the great outdoors.
Tidioute (tiddy-oot), is an Iroquois word meaning 'protrusion of land.' The Allegheny River makes a sharp bend here creating a near-peninsula within the river valley. Access to the Allegheny River is available from a boat launch and a 5 mile non-motorized riverside Recreation Trek both located in the heart of town. Home of the worlds' first natural 'flowing' oil well, used by Native Americans for medicinal purposes. After the discovery of oil in Titusville, Tidioute became a booming oil center and the birthplace of Standard Oil. Oil millionaires, railroads and wealth followed leaving a legacy of Victorian-era mansions. For the last 48 years; Tidioute has hosted the PA. State Championship Fishing Tournament held annually the last weekend in September.
