Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom historic cottage approximately 1 mile to the beach!

Your home for the next few days or longer is the Florida of the past with the amenities of today all within short walking distance to Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach Tennis Center and of course the beach! Upon your arrival, and after you've parked your car or two on our off street driveway, you can decide if you want to catch a Delray Downtowner FREE golf cart to the beach, a tennis match at the end of the block or attend one of the many festivals downtown throughout the year like The Delray Affair, Wine & Seafood Festival or the Delray Beach Festival of the Arts now in it's 26th year!

However, none of this would matter unless you had a nice, quiet, comfortable place to lay your head. That's why we have two brand new king and queen size BeautyRest mattresses to sleep a total of 4 people in our 1100sq.ft home.

The king size bed sits in the master bedroom with it's own walk in closet. The smaller 2nd bedroom has a queen size bed and storage for your belongings as well.

There is one full bath and one half bathroom for your convenience with hair dryer included.

In our living room sits a beautiful like new L shaped couch ready to welcome the tired travel for a Sunday morning nap, watching your favorite TV show or movie on our HDTV with BluRay DVD player, surfing the web with our 50MB download speed WiFI network or just shutting all that off and reading a book. It's your vacation, it's your choice!

If you like to cook, we've got you covered! In addition to the usual appliances we provide all dishes, flatware, utensils, pots/pans, bowls & measuring spoons (for pancakes!) toaster and coffee maker. If you're missing something for your meal like the gravy boat or that lemon zester, let us know and maybe we can help out! And yes, of course there's a grill!;) You are after all on vacation. Also, what better way to start your day with breakfast on the veranda, birds chirping, coffee brewing and the most difficult decision you're going to have to face all day is, 'Where are we going for lunch after the beach?'

Let's face it, you're going to have to wash those swim suits as well and that's not a problem with the full-size washer and dryer less than a year old. All linens are provided which include fresh clean bedding, bath, and beach towels too. You didn't think we were going to make you bring that did you? Oh and we've had a full landscape done that's growing in nicely!

The French Cottage is more than just wood, metal and stone…it's our home that we've decided to share with you, likeminded travelers who aren't looking for the buffet lines, the hotel bars and the awkward elevator silence, people who are looking to experience the locale and truly live like a local. Book your stay now, before someone else does! We look forward to seeing you. John & Lori McCormack

About John McCormack

We are full-time Delray Beach residents and live right down the street from The French Cottage. We're continually trying to update and improve our home for ourselves and our guests. We recently had new siding, paint, flooring and tile installed on the veranda. When we're not working you can usually find us out and about with our dog in Delray Beach (we rarely leave) whether it's the beach, Lake Ida dog park, Atlantic Avenue or out west at the Delray MarketPlace. We love to travel in our spare time and have had the privilege of visiting Copenhagen, Berlin, Barcelona, UK, Prague and the Netherlands as well as frequenting the mountains of North Carolina. And what goes hand in hand better than travel? Food of course! We're both definitely foodies and will be more than happy to assist with local recommendations and would actually be offended if you didn't ask us where to go;)

John McCormack purchased this house in 2009

Why John McCormack chose Florida South East

If given the choice again, we still would have picked Delray Beach to call home and it looks like we're not the only ones as our quaint little beach town has been featured in Conde Nast Traveler, Coastal Living and also voted 'Most Fun Small Town in America' by Rand McNally and USA Today.

You know how they say to never buy the first house you look at? Well, we couldn't be happier about that decision because one look and we fell in love. If you appreciate character, history and charm this house has it. It was originally built in 1930 and is a historic property but don't let the unassuming outside fool you because it's been fully remodeled with new electric, A/C, plumbing, and cherry wood floors and has all the modern amenities you might desire on your South Florida vacation! Wondering where the name came from? Well, we liked to pay a little homage to the previous owner who did a great job renovating the property and we feel like we must carry on with the improvements to this living piece of Delray Beach history.

What makes this house unique

Location, location, location! We're two blocks from Atlantic Avenue, just over a mile from the beach and only one block away from the beautiful Delray Beach International Tennis Center. Close enough but also far away enough from bustling downtown Atlantic Avenue. When you arrive here, put the car keys away because everything is within walking distance or a short relaxing bike ride away! Or if you prefer, just call our friends at the Delray Downtowner who provide FREE! eco-friendly golf cart rides within the entire downtown area. Let's face it, you could stay at a hotel but why pay twice the price for half the space? If you're looking for a unique experience dealing with real locals, we're here to help. We'd love to share our insider tips, knowledge and local pride in our 'Village by the Sea'

Would rate stay an A 4 1/2 stars but not 5

Was a FANTASTIC LOCATION, walked to downtown every evening, NO CAR NECESSARY. If, you are interested in spending time downtown Delray, you cannot go wrong with this wonderful little cottage. I found it to be sparkling clean, and owners were more than helpful in any request I had. Before my arrival I had asked if there was a blender in the unit for smoothies, there was not; however, by the time I arrived there was a more than efficient blender that made my smoothies with little or no effort. They even had a French Press, for coffee in the morning.

If you planning on going to the beach, which is not that far away, you will find everything you need right there for your pleasure. Of course after the beach, a laundry room is a must, and I found this one to be fully equipped with excellent appliances, along with soap, and dryer sheets.

If you are a little tired of night life, which you can get, NO WORRIES - GREAT BACK YARD with a grill. You can stay home, cook up some steaks on the grill and enjoy wine and dinner in a LOVELY backyard, for a quite evening at home.

The cottage was spacious, clean and I found the A/C was nicely spread throughout. My only concerns were shared with the owners and if corrected I would give a 5+ rating. I found the only pillows in the cottage to be very hard, and I like softer pillows, so extra pillows in the closet for us fussy Diva's would be appreciated, along with a little less noisy ceiling fan. The ceiling fan in the larger bedroom was a little off balance and was a constant annoyance. Other than that I would not only stay there again, I would recommend to friends and family that are planning on staying in that area.

Owner's Response: Hi Kristine! We're happy you enjoyed your stay and you'll also be happy to know that we've already ordered some new softer pillows as per your great suggestion! Didn't think of that but always looking to improve our guest's experience :-) Looks like that fan has reached it's end of life so that's next for replacement as well! We strive for a 5 Star experience but it's more important that our guests give their honest opinions and we appreciate your feedback :-)

Great little home withing walking distance of downtown Delray

  • 5 of 5

We had two couples staying in the home for a long weekend. We came to surprise a local friend for his 60th birthday. Upon arrival we found the house to have everything we needed including a birthday card if we needed one. We had dinner reservations at Deck 84 for Friday night. We used the Delray Downtowner for transportation. What a great free service. Enjoyed coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening on the patio every day. Will be definitely be back if we ever need a rental in Delray Beach again.

The Perfect Cottage in an Ideal Location

  • 5 of 5

April was our second stay in the Cottage. It has two bedrooms and the master has walk-in closet and there are lots of clothes hangers, a large living room and excellently equipped kitchen. There is a lovely back yard with gas grill, table and chairs and a large patio. It is a short walk to Atlantic Avenue where there are all the restaurants, art galleries and small stores you could ask for. Publix supermarket and Walgreens drug store are also a walk away (unless you have heavy shopping bags). We are in our seventies and we were able to walk everywhere.

We would highly recommend the French Cottage to anyone and we are in the process of booking our third visit.

Our Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We love the French Cottage, it is a 'special' place. This is our second year at the French Cottage and we planned to return many more times. It is cozy, well appointed, fully stocked and very comfortable. Its proximity to all the action on Atlantic Ave. is perfect. It takes us about 10 minutes to walk to the "action" and about 20 minutes to walk to the beach. John and Lori are great hosts and very professional. There are very helpful and very informative. It is our 'favorite place'. Thanks for another great stay and looking forward to next year. Lewis & Marilyn

Lovely, intimate cottage central to Delray Beach's vibrant Atlantic Ave.

  • 5 of 5

This cozy, lovingly restored cottage provided a warm and intimate respite in one of America's most charming small beach towns. The large, grill-equipped private garden was an oasis of tropical breezes and lounging comfort. The hosts, John and Lori, couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. We look forward to returning again and again.
