Beautiful beach house
My boyfriend and I stayed here for three nights during our trip to the Yucatán. The house is comfortable, modern, beautifully designed and furnished and gets fantastic sea breeze with gorgeous natural lighting. Just steps to the beach, located next to a resort that offers its services and amenities to the house's guests and is a short drive to Progreso for shopping or Telchac Puerto for fantastic lunches at our favorite spot, Los Tiberones. An easy drive from Merida along the most charming road. Couldn't get enough of that fabulous roof deck!
Beautiful beach house in great location.
Esmeralda is a beautifully designed, built, and decorated property. Everything very clean and well maintained. The beach is gorgeous, very private, a few people walking along, but well secluded. Water great for swimming, floating, and for kids. See the sunrise AND sunsets from the multiple decks. The best part of the house is the rooftop, with beautiful views, furniture, grill; great place to hang out during the days and evenings. Both bedrooms are en suite and the bathrooms are gorgeous, beds and bedding very comfortable. The entire house is very well equipped; kitchen, furniture, linens, laundry, TV's, music; owners thought of everything for a great week at the beach. Location is perfect for exploring the Yucatan; small towns with great lunch places, local coconut bakeries and markets, flamingos, Mayan ruins, nature preserves, are minutes away, yet close enough to Merida for a day trip or night out for great food and nightlife. Highly recommend, hope to return again.
My wife and I stayed at Villa Esmeralda this past spring. In a nutshell, it was a great trip due in large part to staying here.
First, the house is fantastic. It’s comfortable, well appointed, and right on the beach. The first level is an open concept kitchen and living room, but with well-defined and delineated spaces for each room. Both rooms have floor to ceiling windows that look out to the beach. We often kept those open to feel the sea-breezes while cooking and eating. The kitchen has everything you need to make a multi-course meal. We made a lot of guacamole and the mortise and pestle was great. Upstairs the bedrooms also have floor to ceiling windows and sliders that open to porches. We slept great on comfortable mattresses with the right amount of bedding and good pillows. The real gem of the house is the roof top patio. It offers unlimited 360 degree views – ocean, beach, and forested preserve. From the patio we watched the sun rise and set over the water, sipped cocktails, watched kite-surfers (when they were there), and enjoyed the sun.
Second, the house is perfectly located. It’s close enough for easy access to Merida, but far enough away from Merida’s regular weekend beach that it is quiet, dark at night, and not surrounded by kitsch. Merida itself was really nice – lots of colonial buildings and surprisingly amazing restaurants. East of the house are some cool, real coastal-Mexico towns and way off the beaten track Mayan ruins. We visited Xcambo (about 15 min by car), and another much larger ruin a little farther away called Dzibilchaltun. We were the only visitors at Xcambo and had free reign to climb all over the excavated and semi-excavated structures. We visited Telchac Puerto a few times for groceries and booze. There’s a great torillleria, a food stand for fruits and veggies, and a small bodega for packaged foods. Just before town you can buy fish at the docks. We also visited Celestun which was a bit far considering you can see flamingos walking distance from the house and get just-as-fresh seafood in Telchac Puetro for half the cost.
We found Villa Esmeralda to be a lovely, comfortable, and hassle free vacation home conveniently located to explore this part of Mexico. Per some other comments, we had no issues finding the property or reaching the property manager. The manager even visited to change out propane for the grill. We didn’t try the TV – no need for one on vacation!
Excellent holiday rental
Overall I would recommend this rental to anyone looking for a luxury private getaway 15 minutes from Progresso, 5 minutes to flamingos, Mayan ruins and the "real" outback of Yucatan, and 30 minutes from Mérida. This rental house for the money can't be beat on the peninsula, as we found out in rentals before and after staying there.
The house was ideal for our needs both in situation and decor. It is just 2 years old and feels new, very clean and is beautifully designed. It sits right on the beach, 10 meters from the surf, and we could hear the ocean waves at night while we slept. Though it is not as picturesque a beach as some in the area, it was full of wildlife and completely private most of the time. Besides the daytime hotel guests next door, only about 10 people passed by on the beach during the entire week.
On the other hand beautiful miniature beach foxes came up to the house, and flamingos flew by along the beach at sunrise. The mattresses and linens were the best I have ever experienced anywhere, including in fine hotels. The appliances and furnishings were very good and Donald thought of everything we might need, from detergent to cooking oil to a very nice set of pots and pans. For a rental this place is as fully and well furnished as a much-loved family vacation home, yet as nice as any hotel.
The parking is literally under the house 5 meters from the front door. The "pet" iguanas that live under the steps are charming and entertaining. Major grocery stores were just 15 minutes away. It was a no-hassle week full of good food, good weather and great experiences. Very very family friendly.
We were two couples and the house was more than enough space and privacy. The charge for electricity was truly negligible. We had no trouble with deposits or with timely communication directly with the owner.
But probably the biggest perk of this house is the fantastic full roof deck with stunning ocean views, a dining table for sunset dinners and tanning chaises. We spent most of our time in the house that week up on the roof deck, from sunrise to stargazing.
The local house manager (as stated in another review) was unresponsive through the week but at least did show up for us the first day. We did not suffer but it warrants checking in advance that this problem has been worked out.
Another glitch was the exact instructions to get there. FYI, it's down the hotel driveway on the left along the beach at
Thank you for the review. We are sorry that you feel that we have not been more attentive. It has always been our policy to respect the privacy of our guests, and that is the main reason of not visiting the house unless it is required to, until the end of the rental and at the beginning. In the future we will supply our guests with a local cell phone at no charge to communicate any issues or just ask for advise. We take our responsibility to give the best possible guest experience very seriously and are always looking to improve our services. "
Beautiful relaxing paradise
Villa Esmeralda was the perfect getaway spot.
Having never been to this part of Mexico before, I was extremely happy with the location of this vacation home. An easy car ride from the cultural center of Merida (worth a day trip or two to explore!), Villa Esmerelda was located in the heart of San Benito beach area which was a quiet, peaceful beach community within close distance to small restaurants and local Mexican culture.
We spent a week relaxing on the beach, watching the sun set over the clear blue ocean from the incredible roof deck, and enjoying the Yucatan cultural sights. It was the perfect quiet get-away with a friendly local hotel next door within walking distance for easy food and drink options when we wanted company.
The house itself was clean and modern with interesting architecture- the right mix of beach friendly and upscale relaxation. We had nothing but pleasant interactions with the management and owners of the property who were happy to help answer questions and give advice to make our stay a great one.
I highly recommend this location as an ideal relaxing beach vacation home!
Flamingo watching, cents
