Overview

About the property

Creekside, 5 1/2 Acre, Adobe Mountain Home: 4 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Hot Tub

This beautiful, light-filled, 4 bedroom, two bath, 2400 square foot home is situated on five and a half acres of mountain property nestled in old cottonwoods, fruit trees, beautiful gardens, a labyrinth and fountains and all with a creek running through it. The house is very much a sanctuary made of real adobe bricks covered with exquisite, marble-like plaster, large log beams, real corbels and all sorts of santa fe-like details. The kitchen is large with an island and adobe benches that look out through large picture windows towards the creek. The high-ceilinged living room is a wonderful place to relax while sitting by the adobe fireplace and bathed in sunlight streaming through french doors. A hot tub sits on a raised brick patio, overlooking the creek, where you can watch the abundant birdlife during the day and the stars at night. There is a spring-fed pond and many out-buildings on the property, including a barn once featured in the movie 'flash back'! The property is located on a popular road bike circuit and there is hiking on blm land right out the front door. It is less than fifteen minutes drive to carbondale and glenwood springs where you will find excellent dining and a world famous hot springs. Aspen, known for its great skiing in the winter and music and hiking in the summer is only 35 miles away. Or you can just stay put and enjoy the quiet days and star-filled nights, miles away from city lights and sound!

About Janice and A.O. Forbes

Janice and A.O. Forbes built and have lived in this adobe home since 1994. They both teach in Carbondale and have for the last 27 years. They have raised three children here along with several chickens and two lovely yellow labs. They love traveling and exploring the world as well as many outdoor activities.

Janice and A.O. Forbes purchased this house in 1994

Why Janice and A.O. Forbes chose Northwest

After looking at several properties around the Roaring Fork Valley we fell in love with this property because of the privacy and the beautiful old growth Cottonwoods that have grown up around the creek. We love having ready access to the wilderness, the sound of the creek and the abundance of wildlife, while still being close to both Carbondale and Glenwood. Our home is our sanctuary and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!

What makes this house unique

There are many unique benefits to our home. Daily we see several types of birdlife (turkeys, Blue Heron, Great Horn Owls, Eagles, Hawks) Falling asleep to the sound of the creek is always lovely. Due to the lack of light pollution the stars are exceptionally brilliant. It is quiet and serene both around the house as well as on many of the great walks and hikes available right from the door. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind!

amazing house and Yard in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed here and we loved it. My wife and our two kids and the family dog. The house is amazing, my wife is a painter and the art inside the house was great, and I love plants and the yard was like a calming oasis, with the water feature and the beautiful flowers everywhere. There is not cell service which was great for me. We would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you

Great girl's getaway

  • 5 of 5

This home is located on a little secluded piece of paradise. Very comfortable and fresh eggs for breakfast. Hot tub for our weary bones, yet close to all the activities we had planned. We cancelled 2 dinner reservations to stay at home and cook. The best part are the charming owners who made us feel so welcome...fresh flowers on our arrival and all. We would book again and invite the owners to Durango for a visit too.

Beautiful home & gracious hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Plenty of room for our group of 7! It has all the amenities you need and more. A short drive to Basalt and Aspen without sacrificing the feel of a peaceful, mountain retreat. The property itself is beautiful and sits right along the river. The hot tub was a huge perk after a long day out in the cold. And our 2-year-old especially loved the extremely friendly chickens in the coop behind the home. We will be back!

Great Family Rental!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect rental for families...we had six adults and had lots of space for games, crafts, eating, and just hanging out. Great location tucked away in the foothills and mountains in the Roaring Fork Valley. The house is within easy access to snowshoe/hiking trails, sledding, and skiing. The hosts are great and made us feel very welcome and comfortable while renting their property. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful and picturesque mountain vacation rental.
