3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, with Beautiful Mountain Views
Great for skiing/snowboarding and great for summer. Only 0.6 miles to the ski lifts. Free door-to-door, on-demand, shuttle available to/from lifts. For cross-country skiing, you can walk across the street and go right to the groomed meadow trails (purchase pass at Kirkwood XC center). Beautiful mountain views. Designed by skiers for skiers/boarders. Open plan (kitchen, dining area, living room, loft) makes your whole visit seem like a party. High ceilings with exposed wood beams.
Master BR has queen-size bed. Another bedroom has a queen-size bed. Third bedroom has twin beds. Loft trundle bed pulls out for 2 more twin beds. Bedroom with twin beds includes a mini-loft where kids love to hang out and play, or it is an ideal spot for meditation.
The bathrooms are set up so that they seem like a lot more than 2, so that everyone can get ready at the same time for those incredible Kirkwood powder mornings. There is an extra sink in the master BR, and there are 2 large sinks outside of the shower/toilet upstairs.
Some Kirkwood homes require a drive up a steep road or driveway. Not our cabin. Our street is nearly level with Kirkwood Meadows Dr, with parking right in front. The chalet is half of a duplex, and we share a path with the next door unit which makes it easier to get in, except right after a big storm when you may have to carve some snow steps (snow shovel provided). You cannot see nor hear the next door unit from inside our cabin.
We hate having to bring paper goods to a rental, so we provide everything you need except your own food. All linens and towels are provided. Well equipped kitchen has been enjoyed even by professional chefs. Coffee-maker, coffee-grinder, toaster, small micro-wave oven.
Wood-burning stove, with glass door to watch the fire, really creates a cozy ambience. Super efficient, the wood stove will heat the entire cabin and requires much less wood than a fireplace. Plenty of logs, kindling and paper provided. Or use the furnace. Your choice. There are lots of wood pegs for hanging cold or wet jackets, gloves, etc by the wood-stove or in most other rooms of the cabin. We even have an electrical boot/glove warmer/dryer in case you left your boots in the car overnight. If you email or call in advance, we will turn on the furnace before you arrive so that the cabin is warm when you arrive.
Cabin has free high-speed wifi, a flat-screen TV with Blu-Ray/DVD player. No cable service, so bring some movies or watch one from our extensive library. We also have lots of books to read and several games. A stereo system connects to your iPhone, iPod or other music device. NEW: Electronic front door lock - no need to use a key.

About Howard Hoffman
Have been skiing at Kirkwood for many years. Active in Kirkwood community affairs, including improvements to utilities, former president of Kirkwood Meadows Association.
Howard Hoffman purchased this House in 1985
Why Howard Hoffman chose West Meadows
Our whole family loves Kirkwood and in all seasons. The skiing/snowboarding/cross-country skiing is some of the best in the US. The powder is frequently truly awesome. Kirkwood, as a part of Vail Resorts, has some of the best ski run grooming anywhere. I can say that with some authority, as I have skied in 10 US states plus Canada and Switzerland, at dozens of ski resorts, including many of the most famous ones. Kirkwood is much less crowded and is more laid back than Lake Tahoe, and yet you can drive there in 40 minutes to get all of the recreation and entertainment available. We like being so close to the lifts and yet having the privacy of being in the homes just between the lifts and Highway 88. The summer hiking, fishing, horseback riding, boating, mountain biking and other activities are really great too. I had stayed at and visited many ski cabins/condos and worked with an architect in designing our cabin to be fun and easy for a ski vacation.

Nice and comfortable place, lots of room, well stocked and convenient location We had great time
Great little place close to the mountain!
This place is better in person than it is in pictures. It was a great size for a small group of 5-6 people, and you can squeeze in 8 if you need to. The kitchen is very well-equipped and there are PLENTY of blankets! There is a wood stove where you can build a fire (if you know how) and while there is no cable, he has VERY fast internet and you can definitely stream movies or watch one from his extensive DVD collection.
The location isn't exactly "on property" at Kirkwood, but there's a shuttle that comes RIGHT to the door. You just call the shuttle number and they show up in MINUTES! It was awesome.
I ran into the woman/neighbor who lives next door and she was super sweet as well!
All in all, it was a great stay.
There is no garage, so you'll need to dig your car out if there's heavy snow.
There's keyless entry which is AMAZING!
Thank you Andrea. We appreciated having you as a guest and would welcome you back any time. Glad you like the keyless entry. Regards, Howard
Great Family Time at this Chalet!
My family of 5 had a wonderful time staying at this Chalet in Kirkwood. We have been coming here to ski for years, but never stayed overnight. Howard was great to work with up front, as he was more than thorough in providing helpful instructions and valuable guidance. It helped that he was extremely responsive when I had questions.
The chalet itself was very comfortable, and had everything you could need for a ski getaway. We brought our own groceries and cooked our meals, so didn't have to go out to eat. And the shuttle to get to the lifts was just a phone call away. We are definitely planning on staying here again!
Hi Kapil, We were very pleased to have you and your family as guests. You are welcome back any time. Regards, Howard
Great condo with a great location
We had a wonderful weekend skiing at Kirkwood and staying in this condo.
1) The condo was perfect for our family. Very comfortable beds and a nice open living / dining area to hang out after skiing. The kitchen also has everything you will need. The condo is stocked with tons of movies and a good set of games. The kids loved the little loft area in their bedroom - instant fort!
2) Howard was great to work with. He sent important details that helped us plan our trip and was very responsive to questions.
3) Great location - you can take the free shuttle up to the ski area.. or a very short 3 min drive.
We will hopefully be back next time we visit Kirkwood.
Anne, Thank you for the review. We are so glad to have had you and your family as guests. You are welcome any time in the future. Regards, Howard
Great base for Kirkwood fun!
Cabin served all our needs for two families with 4 college aged kids (total). Convenience to mountain was great. We appreciated the gas fireplace, the movie library, and the sound system. Kitchen was fully stocked. Minor drawback-would appreciate more comfy seating. With only a couch and chair, not room for everyone when watching a movie or hanging out. Had to use kitchen chairs. Howard is a great host and gave us all the info we needed.
Lori, glad to hear that you and your party had such a good stay at our chalet. We will definitely consider expanding the "comfy" seating in the near future. Thank you for the feedback. You are welcome to stay at our chalet any time.
Great accommodations for a family ski vacation at Kirkwood
Our family enjoyed our ski vacation at Kirkwood and the Hoffman Chalet was a great choice for our stay. It's clear that the owner, Howard, pays great attention to detail -- from the clear and well organized instructions, to the amenities in the chalet. The home is well stocked and well equipped with everything needed. A free and fast, door-to-lodge shuttle makes this home as convenient as the far more expensive lodgings on the slopes, and it's more quiet and peaceful.
We liked that Howard has a "snow-check" contingency policy -- he will provide a credit or refund for the night if you cannot get to the Chalet because of bad weather. I've never seen this before in a vacation rental. It provides some piece of mind when booking far in advance.
We highly recommend staying at the Hoffman Chalet for your Kirkwood-based adventures. As another reviewer noted, it's also a great place to go during the summer for hiking, fishing, biking, etc.
We enjoyed hosting you and your family, Kevin. Thanks for being such great guests. You are welcome back any time.
