About Christine Joli-Coeur
Randy and I have lived in the area for almost 20 years, both natives of Quebec so we do speak French. We ended up in this area when I moved for work and Randy followed. Randy currently works as a realtor in the area and I work full time as a consultant.
Why Christine Joli-Coeur chose Edwardsburgh/Cardinal
Having grown up in Quebec city and travelled along the Eastern Seaboard of Canada and the US this area offer the beauty of comfort and things to do. Comfort of the home to enjoy meals together with family or friends, a quiet coffee looking out on the river, space for a soccer or volleyball challenge or a peaceful paddle in the kayak. Activities are numerous particularly in the summer just drive North, South, East or West and you will find fun for the family or friends. We border on the US so if heading South to explore Ogdensburg, Canton, Alexandria Bay NY bring your passport.
What makes this Cottage unique
Having been renters of other cottages we work hard to make sure that the cottages are well kept and not to dissapoint and that the price is affordable. This cottage has a double level deck that overlooks the water with breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence at any time of year.

Love the property. Quiet, nice little beach for grandchildren, water somewhat weedy.
Overall we really enjoyed our holiday. We were somewhat disappointed that the dock was not there, it was great fishing of it last time. Paddle boat didn't work well, with only one peddle. Update on the outside furniture would be great.
Beautiful home on the river
The main purpose of our trip was to go diving in the area's shipwrecks in the river. It is close to the best shore diving in the area, and not too far from the wrecks accessible by boat in the area. The second bathroom downstairs made a nice area to rinse off the dive gear and hang everything up to ensure it was fully dried in between uses. There is even a full laundry including washer and dryer!
The home was in good condition and on a beautiful location on the river. The deck ensured an amazing sunrise and sunset over the river and the private deck off of the master bedroom allowed a private viewing. A couple of the days even included a freighter in our morning and evening pictures.
The yard was well kept ( mowed and trimmed ) and maintenance people came during the week to ensure the grounds were kept trimmed. There is a small sand beach area which quickly turns into weeds a few feet from shore. The slope is gradual and with some scuba boots, or water shoes/sandals, it is a great place to swim/wade. The dock in the pictures was not installed so if we had a boat, there would have been no place to dock.
There were 3 kayaks available for use along with a canoe and a paddle boat. There were also life jackets provided. The kayaks were at one time nice kayaks and showed their use and age. They are fully usable, however. There was a nice area 200 m offshore which was the former canal before the river was navigable. This was a great spot to kayak over and around. The visibility was great and you could see to the bottom about 15-20 feet clearly.
The grill burners were in terrible condition and need to be replaced. The propane was completely empty, and so was the backup tank. Christine was notified and did have the tank replaced within 24 hours. In the notes it clearly states to notify Christine if the tank is used so she can fill it up for the next renters.
The internet was down for 4 of the 7 days we were there. Christine said the cable had been cut and had trouble having the local tech come fix it. Christine did notify me daily of the status and pushed the local tech to come fix it. The wireless signal was strong, but the speed of the internet was 2-3 Mbps. Great if you have no cell signal.
If something is wrong with your stay make sure to let Christine know so she can fix it. She helped us multiple times and is quick to respond.
We would definitely stay again and plan on it next summer.
Thank you so much for your review. We do our best to keep up with the details and strive hard to makes sure when things are a miss that they get rectified as soon as possible. The dock suffered as a result of the out of this world flooding this past spring and was unsafe and had to be totally rebuilt. You will be happy to know that the contractor started last week and it will be new. Mother nature is a worthy adversary at times, the hurricanes down south attest to that. Another new addition is a new BBQ. Unfortunately many renters don't take care of it and we frequently need to replace it every two to three years. We try to get as much use out of them as possible since we rent too and know that guests enjoy the fact that we are reasonably priced and do not charge any additional fees for use of boats or propane.
For those guests that need the ultimate fast internet our beautifully situated cottage may not be for you. We do have great internet for the rural surroundings which works really well and will allow for streaming but it isn't what you would get in the heart of the city. Those of you that want to keep in touch can but if all you want is to do gaming you may want to think twice. We cater to those that want to kick back and enjoy life. Nothing better than enjoying your coffee on the upper or lower decks to see the sunrise or view the ocean boats across the river (other side of the islands), watch the osprey and other birds and slow down from the hectic city life. This home caters to families and those that enjoy spending time together or visiting local spots like Upper Canada Village or Fort Wellington. I am glad amidst a few things we have made the cut for a visit again next year. We'll be here:)
Cottage was very clean, proprietors very accommodating and friendly and have a very solid handle on customer service from start to finish. Beautiful lake side view. Would definitely stay there again.
Nice family vacation spot
Everything was as expected
Thanks so much for letting us know that the home meet your needs and was everything that you expected. We appreciate your rating. Please do visit us again.
Beyond our expectations!!
I really enjoyed my stay at this cottage. For the price, it was better than we expected. The cottage was clean and it felt like I was in my second home because of all the basic commodities they provided. We were without any basics needs. Very accommodating as well, they even delivered a box that I had forgotten.
Glad that it met your needs. Sounds like your group is quite traveled in visiting various cottages over the years with your friends so I am happy that we met and exceeded expectations.
As for dropping off the box sometimes guests leave cherished items behind so it was no problem bringing it closer as I was in Toronto for my daughter's hockey tournament and not sure how well it would have traveled by mail.
We aim to make your stay as comfortable as we can.
Great location for a family retreat.
We really enjoyed our stay. The property was perfect for a family stay. There were a total of seven of us for the majority of the stay and then a cousin stayed with us on one night. We even had a open house on Sunday for friends and family which worked out well with beautiful sunny weather. Everything was how we expected it. Only one opportunity is that the cottage could use a good overall spring cleaning. We spent a couple of hours on Sunday morning before our open house cleaning off cobwebs and general cleaning to prepare for our guests.
Thank you so much for selecting our home for your family event. I am so glad that it met your needs and I will definitely share your comments with our cleaner and get it attended to. The transition from Winter to Spring does come with its challenges to get some of the cobwebs from the outdoor decks. We do have an application of a ecofriendly treatment to discourage our web friends from being near or even in the house. The treatment is applied in the late spring but with the wet warm weather they are already starting. My apologies and I am so glad that it meet all of your other needs.
Lots of local activities in the summer months; Upper Canada Village, Fort Wellingston, Live theatre St. Lawrence Shakespear festival, Upper Canada playhouse.
