About Deborah

Originally from the St. Louis area, I lived in Petersburg from 1998 to 2013. The first time I drove into town looking for a home to buy, the 'Old Petersburg Operahouse' was for sale. Having majored in music many years ago, the old building sent out a siren call for me to buy it! I've been buying and rehabbing in town ever since. In 2011 I opened The Cottage for vacationers. It was a very slow start, and I wondered if it had been the right decision. But soon the Creation Museum guests started arriving--I love my guests! What a joy to interact with these Christian families (many with lots of children :), who are kind and thoughtful...and take care of my home! It was obvious right away that a vacation home offers a much-needed alternative to hotel rooms...most of which cannot accommodate the larger families. Also, the ability to cook your own meals instead of eating out can save money. (And doing a little laundry during vacation can rescue you from a mountain of clothes when you get home...;-) I hope you enjoy the adventure of staying in this historic general store...

Awesome 'General Store'

  • 5 of 5

Just to mention right off. this location is not in Lawrenceburg. It is in Petersburg.

We had a wonderful time as a family! This is a very well kept home and extremely clean! We would absolutely visit again.

Great property, great town, great location.

  • 5 of 5

Loved the rental. The downstairs was perfect for us (4 adults and 5 children), the proximity to the Creation Museum, Ark Encounter and Cincinnati were great! I would absolutely rent this place again and recommend it to anyone considering a visit to the area.

If you're bringing kids bring some outdoor toys. We ended up picking up a few things from WalMart in Hebron (25 mins away) because we didn't bring anything for outside. Since there's hardly any traffic in Petersburg, our kids played in the streets in the evening while waiting on dinner, took several walks to the Ohio River bank (~200 yds?) and also down to the basketball courts near the Fire Station/Community Center.

Can't say enough great things about the rental and our time there. It was fantastic.

We are a family of 17, with 8 adults and 9 grandchildren. It housed us well, with plenty of space. It was clean and impressive with beautiful flooring and decor.

The perfect place for a spring break getaway!

  • 5 of 5

For our spring break adventure, there were five adults and four kids, three generations of family! The general store was spacious enough for all of us; we loved that we could all sit at the big table for meals and games. The house has unique and charming details, yet is updated with lovely features, such as both bathrooms and the kitchen. The kids were happy to go outside for scooter rides and walks to the nearby park and Ohio River. It was great to be so close to the Creation Museum, where we spent our first day, and to the Ark Encounter, where we spent our second day. I would love to return to Petersburg in the future!

Superb!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the entire building for three nights. It was way more space than we really needed. However we were glad we did. Everyone had their own space to relax and enjoy. This is by far best place I have rented. Soooo much better than a hotel. Deborah has created a wonderful place to stay. Definitely a home away from home. Wanda the property manages takes excellent care of everything. Very clean, very quiet and close to many great attractions. Ark Encounter and Creation Museum should be on a must see list. Will rent again!!

fantastic!!!!

  • 5 of 5

I travel a lot and this is by far the best property I have ever rented. There were 5 of us and we rented both floors so everyone had plenty of privacy and relaxation. For sure a gem on the home away site. We went to Ark Encounter and Creation Museum. Highly recommend both. Deborah's general store is beautifully renovated. Plan on another trip this fall and hope to rent again. Deborah is quick to respond and Wanda her property manager is exceptional.
