Great place to stay
We have relatives in Hound Ears so this was a great place for us to stay for a few days with our welsh terrier. The house is well equipped, clean and very homey! As seniors we did find that the steps leading up to the door (stone steps) were are bit hazardous and it was a challenge to get our bags into the house....but we managed. Owner is very responsive and helpful. Hound Ears is a beautiful community.
It was a cute private chalet tucked away in a gated/monitored neighborhood. Loved the shape and abnormality of the place, it was unique. beds were comfortable, bathrooms worked for their size. Overall very satisfied.
4 vs 5 star...more for winter - the bedroom with a bathroom connected - wouldn't heat very well, good thing there were extra blankets, and a wall heater. The fan in the bathroom connected to the living area was REALLY loud.
One negative (which is not necessarily the owners fault) is the stairs to get to the front door then stairs to get to the main floor. with the snow/ice we had it got a little risky but we managed. Recommend not taking large bags.
Small yet perfect!!!!
We are happy to say that we can not come up with one complaint!!! The property is in a unique setting between all the rocks. The kitchen supplied everything we needed. The beds, pillows and linens were comfy. The family room was cozy. Plenty of hot water for all 4 of us to shower :-) We would rent again.
A True Tree House
This has to be one of the most unique places we have stayed in a while. I really did feel like I was in a tree house. Every where you looked through the floor to ceiling windows, you saw the beautiful changing of the leaves. They have done a fabulous job using the small space and making it feel quite large actually. And the amazing rock face behind the house was breath-taking. I would definitely recommend it!
Lots of Character to this place!
The chalet is in a beautiful area near Boone, NC. The community is gated and very nice, with a lovely, scenic ride to the property. The roads are single lane in some areas, and a bit confusing to navigate, but not so bad once you figure out where you're going! The chalet itself is very interesting and quirky. I love the fact that it is built right next to a large boulder/rock wall and has a porch that wraps most of the way around the house. We did not stay in the property after arriving, however, because the housekeeper did not come before our arrival and the house was in need of some vacuuming, dusting and change of linens. We were very disappointed that we could not stay, but we contacted the homeowners concerning the cleanliness of the home. The owners were very kind and apologetic and refunded our payment, minus the service fee. VRBO refunded the service fee, so we were very satisfied with the customer service as well. We were sad not to get to stay here, again, the property is very "fun" and I know we would have enjoyed our stay had things worked out!
The grounds are beautiful with lots of scenic views. Great location for a quick weekend away. Leisure drive to Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls . I will definitely visit again .
Located among communities of Blowing Rock, Boone, Banner Elk. Additional attractions include Grandfather Mountain, ski slopes, Blue Ridge Parkway, Bass Lake, Trout Lake, Juan Price National Park, and Tweetsie Railroad
