About the property

Knotty Pine Interior, Private River Access With Floating Dock & Mountain Views

The 'Eagles Nest River Cabin' towers over a beautiful stretch of the Shenandoah River where the water meanders and swirls over a long stretch of underwater ledges and rocks. The 75' span of private river frontage offers steps and a floating dock for easy access to the river for swimming, wading, tubing, kayaking, canoeing, or just lounging in a chair. The fishing is the best around as the river offers a healthy population of small and large mouth bass. Waterfowl and other birds are abundant (over 50 species documented) and bald eagles are occasionally spotted. There is a public landing and parking at the bridge just up river providing for float trip opportunities down to the property. 2 canoes included at nominal fee for entire visit so that you can either canoe the Shenandoah River or just stretch back in a tube and float your day away.

Sleeping 8 to 10, this newly built cabin is beautiful inside and out representing the quintessential vacation cabin with white knotty pine interior, vaulted ceiling, 2 bedrooms, 2 lofts, a fully equipped kitchen and a huge front porch that overlooks the entire stretch of river. At the base of the steps of the cabin is a charcoal grill, table and chairs for easy outdoor grilling and dining. The spacious side and front yards offer plenty of room for group games such as volleyball, croquet, corn hole and horse shoes. The back of cabin is in view of the historic Norfolk Southern railroad. The freight trains rumble by the cabin without whistle approximately 3 to 5 times per day.

Centrally located just 15 miles from Massanutten Ski & Indoor/Outdoor Water Park Resort and historic Luray featuring Luray Caverns the most popular cave in Eastern America and an internationally acclaimed destination. The Shenandoah National Park is also internationally acclaimed featuring breathtaking views from the Skyline Drive (Swift Run Gap access point only 17 miles) and various distance trail hikes to waterfalls and other natural attractions.

We hope that you will decide to come visit and firsthand experience all that the Shenandoah Valley Region has to offer and while lodging with us at the Eagles Nest River Cabin. Fun is Waiting! Good place for a mountain get away.

  • 4 of 5

A group of five friends and two small dogs stayed at Eagle's Nest 11/3-11/15/17. The cabin appeared to be relatively newly constructed and well-maintained. Additionally, the rental was appointed with all essentials, including basic linens and everything one would need for meal prep. The only thing missing was WIFI access, which was a surprise to my group, but not a significant deterrent.

As shown in the pictures, the cabin is constructed on stilts near the river. The property features two fire pits, one close to the cabin near the driveway and another on the river bank. Those travelling with pets and/or small children should note that a road that receives moderate traffic is positioned between the cabin and the river. There is a house a couple hundred yards away, and others on the opposing side of the river. These houses and the road do not provide a setting of absolute isolation, which is good or bad depending on one's preference.

The Saturday of our trip was subjected to an unfortunate steady rain. We had a surprisingly difficult time finding a sports bar in the neighboring towns, but fortuitously stumbled upon Hawskbill Brewing Company in Luray to enjoy a few beers and college football.

Overall, our group really enjoyed Eagle's Nest and would consider staying here again. As this was our first trip to the area, we will definitely be better prepared for weather contingencies in the future. Thanks to James for maintaining a first rate cabin.

All the best!

Great getaway cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The owner was so easy to work with and the cabin was exactly as described and very clean. We had 2 perfect days of weather on a retreat away from DC. Just a short walk to the water, where we enjoyed canoeing and swimming. Very close to many great activities and attractions. We can't wait to go back!

Very nice cabin with the beautiful Shenandoah river right there.

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I took our 7 year old son and dog here and everyone had a great time. We did a few hikes in the park (40 minutes) and went swimming in the river. We took a trip to Harrisonburg (40 minutes) and grabbed dinner. It was a great getaway!

Outstanding Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was clean, new, and had everything we needed. We canoed, fished, cooked on the charcoal grill, made s'mores at the firepit, read in the hammock, watched the solar eclipse (was ~85% there) and relaxed. Our dogs loved it too. Several reviews have mentioned the proximity of the railroad tracks and road. Traffic was minimal during our stay and we love trains, so neither was much of a problem for us.

A lovely trip to Shenandoah

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for a group of 8 (4 adults and 4 children). Steps away from the river. Large yard for lawn games, and a fire pit next to the house. A short drive to Luray Caverns, and an easy, pretty drive to great hiking in Shenandoah NP.
