About Elaine Cowan

I emigrated to Canada 25 years ago, with my family from New Zealand. I am an avid gardener, and are enjoying developing an English Country style Garden. I have also developed a large cutting garden, and design arrangements, and bouquets for a local market, weddings, and other small events. I love living in this little piece of paradise!

Elaine Cowan purchased this chateau / country house in 2014

Why Elaine Cowan chose Vancouver Island

Fell in love with the beautiful south facing property, its expansive view of the ocean and beyond, the privacy, and it's central location. It is a few short minutes to Hwy 19, Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and close to many attractions in the surrounding area. A nice day trip to the West Coast, Mt Washington, and also Victoria.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Luxurious, and restful place to relax and enjoy, And the benefit of having walk on water, ocean front property right outside front gate, fun to watch the ebb and flow of the tides across the shallow sands of the estuary, enjoy the water birds, as well as eagles in their perching tree, or nest nearby. Explore the estuary at low tide, and discover several types of shellfish, including oysters, and clams. The water is calm, which creates a restful place, and makes for easy paddling in a kayak, or canoe when exploring the bay, you are welcome to use B&B kayaks. I Built the home in 2011, and moved in early 2012, and have recently developed the Guest wing, into a B&B.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My stay at Country Bay Manor was so very relaxing being in the country with all the privacy you want, great walks up to the chickens, or go up through the gate, and down another country road, or out front to have a beach walk.

Its so nice to get up in the morning, and relax in the sitting room, that Elaine has so well supplied with everything for your comfort, and breakfast. Sit at the table with the ocean view, or curl up in the sofa or one of the easy chairs. I was lucky to be there when the lovely garden was still in bloom. The ambience is out of this world, and you leave with a great feeling, that its a wonderful world out there! - Shirley

Always a delight!

Our third stay with Elaine, and, as always, we were warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. Location on the bay is superb, accommodations beautifully comfortable, and breakfast fresh, exquisitely presented, and delicious. Thank you, Elaine! Five stars *****

A perfect vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

I took my two daughters, aged 12 and 14, plus a friend each, to the Country Bay Manor for one night before they went back to school in September. Although we would have loved to have stayed longer, we had a terrific 24 hours, enjoying the beautiful suite and the big backyard. In the evening we went paddle boarding with Walk on Water Paddle Board Rentals at the nearby Pacific Shores Resort and had a nice dinner at the Smoke N Water restaurant there before heading back to the B&B. The next morning we had a delicious breakfast outside on the patio, and the girls took the kayaks out before we left. Elaine is a terrific hostess, always available and helpful when we needed her, without ever intruding. The girls loved playing with Elaine's pets, and even met some chickens on the road out back. We definitely plan to come back with my husband and son for a longer stay in the future!

Beautiful setting and wonderful accomodations

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for three weeks at the Country Bay Manor B&B on Nanoose Bay and loved every minute! Elaine is a wonderful person who shared family stories and she makes superb breakfasts. Her pets are so friendly they made us feel like that they were ours, especially her two labs, Larry and Bella. The setting is so beautiful with all that Nanoose Bay has to offer along with the many flower beds and landscaping throughout the grounds. Our friends lived nearby so our routine typically included a day of sightseeing on the island and returning for an evening of relaxation and comfort. There are several beautiful hiking trails that include giant old growth trees, some over 800 feet high, all within an easy drive. Clearly the Bay holds some of the best clams, oysters and mussels we have ever eaten. The area Elaine has dedicated to the B&B portion of her lovely home is generous, including two good size bedrooms, a large bath and comfortable living area, all immaculate. The luxurious bath robes supplied are the softest we have ever experienced, and that includes some at the Ritz! We definitely look forward to return visits and would recommend this B&B to everyone who can appreciate luxury in a country setting.

Above and Beyond!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here for only 1 evening but, boy did it make an impression! The guest area is separated by an interior door and hallway from the main house, so guests have privacy. The house is beautifully decorated and spotless. The grounds are also beautifully maintained and back right onto Nanoose Bay. Just breathtaking! The bathroom has extra toilitries and there was water and chocolates on the bedside tables. The best part was how luxurious the beds were. Nope, the best part was the delicious breakfast Elaine served. Actually, it was all above and beyond. Thank you for a lovely stay.
