About Elaine Cowan

I emigrated to Canada 25 years ago, with my family from New Zealand. I am an avid gardener, and are enjoying developing an English Country style Garden. I have also developed a large cutting garden, and design arrangements, and bouquets for a local market, weddings, and other small events. I love living in this little piece of paradise!

Elaine Cowan purchased this chateau / country house in 2014

Why Elaine Cowan chose Vancouver Island

Fell in love with the beautiful south facing property, its expansive view of the ocean and beyond, the privacy, and it's central location. It is a few short minutes to Hwy 19, Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and close to many attractions in the surrounding area. A nice day trip to the West Coast, Mt Washington, and also Victoria.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Luxurious, and restful place to relax and enjoy, And the benefit of having walk on water, ocean front property right outside front gate, fun to watch the ebb and flow of the tides across the shallow sands of the estuary, enjoy the water birds, as well as eagles in their perching tree, or nest nearby. The water is calm, which creates a restful place, and makes for easy paddling in a kayak, or canoe when exploring the bay, you are welcome to use B&B kayaks. I Built the home in 2011, and moved in early 2012, and have recently developed the Guest wing, into a B&B.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My stay at Country Bay Manor was so very relaxing being in the country with all the privacy you want, great walks up to the chickens, or go up through the gate, and down another country road, or out front to have a beach walk.

Its so nice to get up in the morning, and relax in the sitting room, that Elaine has so well supplied with everything for your comfort, and breakfast. Sit at the table with the ocean view, or curl up in the sofa or one of the easy chairs. I was lucky to be there when the lovely garden was still in bloom. The ambience is out of this world, and you leave with a great feeling, that its a wonderful world out there! - Shirley

Quiet, peaceful, welcoming.

Elaine, we had a lovely few days in the guest house. The girls were particular fans of your breakfasts! It was nice to enjoy a visit with our parents out on the patio and overlook the bay.

Beautiful house, serene setting

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Elaine for letting us stay in your lovely house and for making us so welcome. After a hectic few days of travel, Nanoose Bay felt like a relaxing oasis. We borrowed Elaine's kayaks and spent a relaxing hour paddling around the bay in the evening. The kids were highly entertained by Elaine's gorgeous well trained dogs. The breakfast was fabulous and the house comfortable and well equipped. I wish we had booked another night.

A beautiful, comfortable place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

I have never stayed at a B&B before and this has been a wonderful experience. From the flowers hanging on the trees to all of the flowers in the rooms & yard it is a lovely place. And meeting Elaine, Larry, Bella, Buddy, Rollie has been a joy, my granddaughters loved them all. The yogurt & raspberries, cinnamon rolls and breads were delicious. Such a treat to have breakfast brought to you. We will come back here for sure!

Nice property, quiet and perfect for nature lovers

  • 4 of 5

Elaine was a most accommodating hostess. Friendly, and very responsive but not shadowing us. We were a 40's couple and a 70's one. The younger ones would have perhaps liked to be closer to activities and restaurants. All were entertained by watching the eagles and the friendly dogs. Breakfasts were light, healthy and delicious. When we had to make an early am departure, Elaine brought over lovely "take along" foods.

Tranquil escape

  • 4 of 5

Our group stayed for 4 days in July at this beautiful B&B. Overall it was precisely what the doctor ordered. A high quality operation all round. The facilities were beautiful, spotlessly clean. Our host Elaine, was responsive to our requests and spoiled us with a lovely breakfast each day. Fresh baking, terrific fresh fruit, and a good selection of cereals, organic juices helped us get going each day.

The bedrooms, sitting area and bathrooms were very well appointed. The outdoor sitting area had a onshore breeze of fresh ocean air. The property is very well situated for travel to several tourist destinations. There was a note worthy event when her 2 goats managed to jump the fence and were reluctant to return to the pen without her coaxing. The dogs/cats were super friendly, loving all the attention. Would I return for another sojourn, absolutely. A highly recommended Vancouver Island getaway!

Owner's Response: I appreciate you taking the time to review my B&B, and thank you for attempting to corral my delightful, but mischievous goats when they got out of their fenced paddock! Pleased to hear you enjoyed the amenities I provide for my guests, I hope to see you back sometime in the future for another Island getaway! - Elaine
