Stay In Your Own Private Quarters In The Town's Former General Store

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,400 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

A Two- Bedroom Suite With A Full Kitchen And Living Room And Private Bathroom.

Mussers’ Historic Country Suites is located in the former New Providence General Store in the village of New Providence. The store dates back to the early 1800s and was built in the federal style.

We are located just a few miles from Strasburg and within several minutes drive of most Lancaster County and Pennsylvania Dutch country attractions. The outlet malls, Sight and Sound Theater, and the Strasburg Railroad, for example, are all a short, 10-15 minute drive away.

Our historic country suites are open year ’round.

Although our suites are spacious and can accommodate a number of people they are popular stays for one or two persons. Our prices are set up to make our suites affordable for all who come. We have many guests who rent both suites for larger groups of families and friends and use the large common area to meet and socialize.

Children are very welcome as well as those who may have walking limitations. However we do have small stairways, steps and lofts that guests and parents should take into consideration when booking with Mussers’ Historic Country Suites. Because of our concern for other guests, we are sorry that we cannot accommodate pets or smoking in our suites.

Sleeps 8 people

We provide the linens for your stay.

In 1825 the Peoples family built these sunny accommodations for themselves and lived in them until their business grew and they could afford a bigger house for their growing family. The more traditional of the two suites, these quarters are on the second floor with a good view of Main Street, the little house over the root cellar, the Mussers’ gardens and the expansive back yard with mature trees and open spaces and seasonal raspberries.

In the Storekeeper's Quarters suite’s east bedroom there is a queen-sized bed as well as a twin-sized pull out bed. The west bedroom has a king bed and a twin loft bed. In the living room is a queen-sized pull-out sofa and a pack and play for an infant or young child. The kitchen has a trundle bed that serves as a sofa and a twin bed when needed.

About Barb Musser

The Mussers have been restoring their home and having bonfires and turning ice cream on the property since 1986. When they aren’t hosting guests, Rob works as an attorney; Barb gardens, quilts and thinks up adventures for herself and grandchildren, Lou and Finn. Their children are grown but 56 Main Street is still home to Dosie, their Goldendoodle who keeps things lively. When Rob and Barb take a vacation it is either to the log house in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania or on hiking vacations to places like Norway and Patagonia where you can drink water out of streams and breathe the cleanest air in the world. They visited Croatia and Turkey on their last hiking vacation.

We enjoyed our visit to Pennsylvania! This was the perfect location bc it was close to Lancaster and the areas surrounding. Very clean and Barb was a fabulous hostess!

We will look forward to coming again and will tell all of our friends about this special place!

Happy Easter!

  • 5 of 5

The shopkeeper's suite was perfect for us! My family was getting together in Lancaster and we needed a place that could sleep four to six people with a kitchen to prepare food in. Everything was just as anyone would want. A beautiful yard, outdoor seating, clean and nicely furnished accommodations, and best of all very pleasant host and hostess. The location allows you to enjoy the countryside as well as be minutes away from "tourist attractions". I honestly hope we can return in the future.

A beautiful diamond tucked away from tourism

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the amazing shopkeepers suite for 3 wonderful nights. A much needed getaway for my family. Barb greeted us upon our arrival and gave us a history lesson about the beautiful 19th century general store and quarters. The pictures of these suites do not do them any justice as these were beautifully decorated and immaculately maintained. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was perfect for home cooked meals, saving us on eating out every day. Points of tourism were not too far away and the drive to and from was filled with Amish farms, markets and lots of Amish buggies. I highly recommend this property and will look Barb up again when we are in need of accommodations in the area.

Best place ever!

  • 5 of 5

We had never been to the Amish country, this place made us want to come back soon. A family of 6 with small children can have a hard time finding good lodging. Miss Barb provided us the best place we have ever stayed. She treated us like family from the start. Kids loved the place and it is very kid friendly. A big back yard, and plenty of space in the house for them to play. The house is not far from any of the attractions, yet it feels like it is way out in the country. You really can hear horses clop by the house all through the day. A perfect place for a family. We will definitely be back soon.

Owner's Response: Nathan and Jamie, Thanks for choosing to stay with us. Always a delight to have families with us. The kids were so enthusiastic about everything and even wanting to follow me around and help me do my work! Do return! Seriously. After cleaning your suite for the next group I picked as many apples off the tree as I could reach with the step ladder. Then I made some of them into applesauce for the other family that was here. The raspberries are coming on in full force again and hopefully you may get to eat some if you come back later this fall. If not, ask as I'll have a bumper crop and will give a bag of the frozen ones. Hope the school year progresses well for you all. I look forward to hearing from you again. Barb

Special place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We have been in car less than 20 minutes and our kids are already asking about coming back! What quaint, unique place to stay for the weekend. The kitchen was fully stocked if you wanted to prepare your meals, which we did one evening and breakfast (spent a day in Hershey so didn't cook the rest of the time). Plenty of room for a family of five (12,11,9). Love the ability to use the big common room too. Thank you, Barb for your hospitality. We appreciate your warmth and sharing such a great place for our family. The kids want to adopt Dosey too!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Vanessa. It was so good to have you and your family here! I love that the children were asking to come back already. This week and weekend we've had 2 families with 6 children total. Our neighbor Ed showed us his bees and told us how the queen and workers take care of the nest and what the bees like to eat. While we watched one of the worker bees died and another worker bee transferred it to the ground out of the way of the production. Meanwhile I was in my barefeet and stepped on a chestnut burr. One of the mothers of the children had to take care of me picking the many splinters out of my foot. Never a dull moment here. We took our old piano out of our living room and put it under the eaves of the barn. One of the children played for us tonight and I hope we have some more musicians to come and take advantage of the outdoor entertainment which we hope it will provide. The raspberries are producing again and it looks like a bumper crop this fall. I picked the apples off our apple tree today and made some applesauce and shared it with the family in our downstairs Post Office Suite. Really good stuff. I think I'll make most of the apples into apple butter now that homemade cider is available at our Amish produce stand on White Oak Road. Thanks for writing a review for us. And come back as soon as you can. Barb

Very graVery hospitable and accommodating to our needs

  • 5 of 5

In a beautiful part of the greater Lancaster area, Musser's Historic Country Suites was a fantastic place for housing our bridal party. With various people coming from across the United States, the owners were very accommodating and flexible to meet our varying needs. Would recommend highly.
