Patty Reidenbach purchased this Studio in 1981

Great place to stay in Berkeley
Quiet, clean, and charming property, perfect for one or two. Comfy bed. Gracious, welcoming landlady. Walkable neighborhood. Convenient public transit. Would definitely stay here again next time we're in town.
Beautifully-designed, brand-new cottage in a highly-desirable location -- what's not to love?
Not long ago, Patty leveled her old garage and built a little house in her backyard. It's "little" only in the sense that it is not the size of the average house in the Elmwood District. It has two bedrooms, an open-plan living area, a nice-sized bathroom (with built-in washer and dryer) and lots of volume, and so the "feeling" is quite large.
To be honest, I didn't live in the cottage myself -- I rented it for a friend and her daughter -- but I spent time in it, and my friend was very happy there. It's located just a quick walk to the best part of College Avenue, where we found an excellent wine shop and I rediscovered Sweet Dreams toy store, where I had bought a gumball machine for a young friend 40 years ago, and where we found the perfect craft toy for my friend's little girl. There are a number of good restaurants on the Avenue, as well as the Rialto Cinema.
Patty is right: you don't need a car (but if you do, she can make a parking space available, or at least she did for my friend). And speaking of Patty, she lives in the "big house" on the property, and is extremely responsive by phone, email or text.
This review is actually for my other unit #758790. "brand new cottage".
Reviewer had guests in town for a family wedding and was using both. Review of the neighborhood and me still apply :)
This unit is a small studio, with a very basic kitchenette.
Very quiet street
The property was great for my visit to Berkeley. Location is wonderful being near all the restaurants in the Elmwood area. The neighborhood is very nice and I appreciated how quiet of a street it is. I wasn't in the unit much other to sleep and shower but the rental was perfect. Patty was a wonderful host.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay. The space was clean and peaceful.
Comfortable stay in a convenient neighborhood
We stayed in the studio. It was one of the cleanest rentals we’ve stayed at. The property is split into the owner’s place and 3 of her rentals. The neighborhood is safe and convenient. Seriously contact the owner about parking since her space is limited and street parking is limited to 2 hrs. The tv and kitchen are very small if you care about that. The bathroom is quite large.
I have 2 rentals, not 3. Driveway can hold 2 cars (one for each unit) if they are not both big SUVs. However, it does require careful parking. If necessary I also have some one-day permits, but I'm limited by the city as to how many I can get, so prefer guests use driveway.
Many of my guests that fly in do quite well with walking, public transportation, Lyft and Uber, and rent a car just for the days they want to make longer trips. Parking and traffic are big problems in the Bay Area.
UC Berkeley 20 minute walk or short bus ride
Additional information about rental rates
This unit is located within my main house (with separate entrance) I also offer a stand alone cottage (VRBO #758790) that can hold 4 people. Both units can be rented for larger parties. Great for someone looking for clean, cheery, comfortable accommodations in a very convenient location.
