|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Large sitting porches with one screened in to enjoy the evening after a full day on the water or golfing 18 holes. Private dock privileges and minutes from ICW Marker 145 in Sapelo Sound. Three bedrooms and two full baths with luxury linens and fluffy towels. Comfortably accommodates 6 guests and could have children on blow up queen mattress. Crab and fish right off the dock and cook it up for dinner. Explore the unspoiled beaches of Blackbeard, Sapelo, St. Catherine's Ossabaw and Cabretta Islands. Stroll under our live oaks covered with resurrection fern and dripping with Spanish moss. Watch the dolphins parade through the waterways and the sea and shore birds feed in the salt water rivers and acres of marsh. The area is great for walking, biking, or golf carting to take it all in. Moderate temperatures are featured year round. Book a charter to not waste your time with 'fishing' for fish, and then you can do it on your own thereafter! Coastal Relaxation, Rejuvenation, and Refreshing are just a few comments we have heard from our guests during and after their visit to our Tabby Cottage. Come see for yourself. The property is set off to the west of the river and the property owner's private home. There is a walking path that will take you to the dock and all the fishing gear, kayaks, pool and your boat if you dock it up at the dock. Call if you have more questions.
The owners Dave and Jane Gilmour will do their very best to make your stay at the Tabby Cottage memorable and as relaxing as possible. They have a passion for the water and Coastal Georgia and wanted to share their Tabby Cottage with you.
The owner has the confidence in our Salt Coast Properties & Outfitters business to manage her home for vacation rental to guests who would like to visit Shellman Bluff. We pride ourselves in nothing but the best for out guest. We thank you for visiting us and welcome you to Coastal Georgia!
Belly up your boat to a private dock after launching in one of 3 marinas close by or 2 public boat ramps. Enjoy the kayaks, bicycles, swimming pool, grill, home amenities galore and we believe you will be back!!
Coastal Southeast Georgia with many amenities at your fingertips and within a mile or so; yet close enough to the 'big city' activities if you care to partake. Many do no wander farther than our local grocery store upon arrival. Some don't even get in their cars after they arrive. Either way, we believe you will see our 'Shifting Sands and a Slow Pace on the Georgia Coast' New York Times article in person.
We enjoyed our time at Tabby Cottage. The house is beautiful with a great front porch. We enjoyed walking out on the dock over the river. Shellman Bluff is a great location, with good seafood restaurants nearby.
The Tabby cottage was everything we had hoped for. We had never vacationed in Georgia before, and we looked forward to visiting some of the attractions. We chose the Shellman bluff area, because it was centrally located between two of the places we intended to visit, Savannah and Saint Simon Island. The home was perfect for our party of five and a dog. The dog run area was really nice (even though my dog is not much of an outside dog) she did enjoy going in the dog run every morning and waiting for the locals who walked their dogs, to pass by and fed her treats. Everyone was soooo nice. The owner of the property was very helpful and welcoming, she made us feel right at home and treated us like part of her family. My husband and sister really enjoyed the covered fishing dock/pier a fisherman dream, and even if you don't fish, it was nice to just sit and watch the wildlife or relax in the breeze that seemed to flow continuously. I recommend a chartered boat trip with the property manager Chris's husband Allen, to Blackbeard and Saint Catherine's island. (Great shelling) and Chris makes some awesome sandwiches for the trip. If you decide you want to sight see, l, suggest you visit Saint Simon island, it's one the prettiest island I have ever visited. We had a wonderful stay and l highly recommend it. Also, you don't want to miss out on a visit to Savannah. Absolutely stunning town, with great history. The only bad thing was, our time went by too fast.
This is probably the nicest furnished and appointed house of the many we have rented over the years. It is large, the furniture is of good quality, the kitchen well equipped, and the house in general is very clean. More like staying at a friend's house than a rental. The large porch with rockers and ceiling fans was perfect for coffee and catching up on email in the morning using the fast and reliable wifi at the house. Soon after our arrival, the owners showed up to introduce themselves and bring us a bag of freshly-caught shrimp. They gave advice on local attractions and offered to ferry us over to Blackbeard Island which is accessible only by boat. Unfortunately we were unable to take advantage of that generous offer.
The house is set in a grove of large pine trees well off the road - not that road noise would be a problem as there is very little traffic on this dead-end road. A short walk past the owner's home leads to a 1000 foot boardwalk over the marsh to the large, covered dock on the river. This covered area is a great place to sit, read, and enjoy the breeze. The view of the river and marshes would be outstanding were it not for the three large, rather neglected boats moored at the dock. Also on the dock are two kayaks which we had looked forward to using to explore the river and creeks. However, these are "fishing" kayaks that are very large and heavy - not at all what we were used to using. I understand that the agent, Chris, can arrange kayak rentals given advance notice. The pool is nice, though located a few steps from the porches of the owner's house. The caretaker's house is also near the pool.
A short drive away is Speed's Kitchen which serves some of the best fried oysters, shrimp, and fish in the country. We have eaten seafood from Bar Harbor to Key West and Speed's is among the very best. Hunter's Cafe just down the road is a good place for lunch or a drink.
If you understand that Shellman Bluff is not Myrtle Beach and you just want a quiet place to spend a few days or perhaps bring your boat and fish - this is a great place.
We chose this condo due the possibility my wheelchair-bound brother might be able to go with our family. While this was not to be, we spent a couple of nights here and found the condo which was built by the owner to be clean, nicely-adorned, roomy and quaint. The owners had left the lights on for us in addition to having homemade banana bread left in the fridge. We four did walk down to the end of the long pier more out of curiosity than anything else. We actually thought the photos posted and amenities listed on here were pretty representative of the property. Unlike some listings, 8 people could actually stay here with a degree of space and comfort. After spending a day in Savannah, we used "Tabby Cottage" as our home away from home for a couple of days while island hopping down to Jekyll and St. Simons Islands near Brunswick. We wouldn't hesitate for a moment renting this cottage if in the area in the future.
Overlooking a pile of rubble and not the scenic marsh view is the reality. Plan on cleaning the kayaks before using them. The pool was not open and this was not disclosed either. The owners were very nice and the house very comfortable.
Fishing Kayaks, bicycles, golf cart, crab traps, fishing poles and swimming pool available at The Tabby Cottage for guests. Guests can dine on their catch and grill out on the porch and never leave the property while enjoying the dock, waterviews, and peace and quiet. BUT....restaurants, golfing, marinas for your boat launching, and more are within a 1-2 mile golf cart ride. Dock your boat up at the Tabby Cottage dock for the weekend or week!! Take a car ride to the National Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge with your bikes or go on the walking trail. Visit neighboring islands by a charter on a boat or by car.
