About Sherry & Jim Gansle

Jim and I combine our talents to create ArtisINN the unique property that we love. I, Sherry have been an artist my whole life, with a BA in Art from San Jose State University and a Masters Degree in Art Therapy from the University of Louisville, which I used during years as a Grief Counselor doing hospice work. Recently my work has been as a full-time Gramma. As my 3rd grandchild is now in Montessori school, there is more time to devote to art projects. Canyon Lake is unique in that it has perfectly preserved dinosaur tracks. That led me to begin a community art project that will feature large (5') dinosaur eggs. Each egg will be done by a different artist and, eventually we will have eggs at many locations around Canyon Lake. I am just finishing up the egg for the Chamber of Commerce (see photos). Other community art projects include the butterfly bench at the Tye Preston Memorial Library and a dinosaur egg titled: Thesaurus. These projects are my continuing effort to create community through art. Myself and other artists are not getting paid for these efforts, we just love to build, create, solve the mechanical problems of making wonderment from scratch. The ArtisINN Guest House artwork is a result of loving to learn new materials and solve problems involved in using those materials.

Sherry & Jim Gansle purchased this villa in 1995

Why Sherry & Jim Gansle chose Hill Country

My sweet husband Jim bought this property in 1995 when he retired from working for 32 years as a devoted civil servant in Washington D. C. He grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and chose the Texas Hill Country for his retirement. He is a Texas boy thru and thru. I moved to Texas in the early 1990s to do Hospice work in New Braunfels. I have always lived in the country and immediately fell in love with the Canyon Lake area. Jim and I married in 2001 and, I had a whole new house to work wonders with ART. Having remodeled several houses, always experimenting with tile, stained glass and murals, I couldn't wait to begin turning the downstairs area into another art statement with fun around every corner. What's not to love? Austin is close, San Antonio with its wonderful Riverwalk and unique Hispanic culture are wonders to enjoy at any moment.

Texas does not have many rivers and lakes, so the Guadalupe River is a treasure. Folks flock to this river from all over Texas and nearby states to float its pristine chilly spring-fed waters during warm weather and fish the honey holes all year round. Multiple outfitters in the area will supply equipment, advice and even provide a guided experience. The Guadalupe is the southern-most river that supports rainbow trout.

New Braunfels has the Comal River which originates from a beautiful clear spring and creates the totally clear running river. Canyon Lake dam was built by the Army Corp of Engineers nearly 50 years ago, next year 2016 will be the lake's 50 year anniversary. The community and the artists hope to have the Eggs finished and on parade for the 50th anniversary celebration. We are going to have a busy year with a bang of an anniversary celebration to cap it all off. Schlitterbah, touted as the world's largest water park, is a mere half hour away.

What makes this villa unique

Well, I chose this home when I chose to marry Jim. Love at first sight, house and man. The view of the lake, upper deck, lower deck, and a yard

to create I love the 9' ceilings in every room, the vast array of windows overlooking the lake and the deer that visit and want to come in the yard. This property is one block above the lake, across the small valley is a protected hill that is entirely natural and will always stay that way. On the other side of the hill is Comal Park with a sandy swimming beach. Looking out the windows towards the valley and lake we see only one house, mostly we see green trees and lake. We love the view and country quiet.

The owner was not very friendly. We went for a girls weekend get away and she tried to give us a curfew of when to go to bed. We were no where noisy and we stayed gone most of our trip. I would not recommend this guest house to anyone unless you need to stay inside the whole time. The owner watches you the whole stay.

Owner's Response: I am sorry to say that in 15 years of having vacation rentals this one was the most unpleasant. Out description of our space clearly says; "ART is INN is not a party house, we respect and cherish our neighbors ". These ladies went to a concert came back and decided to party hard on deck: this party included loud music and lots of "f and mf words". All this occurred at high volume. At one thirty in the morning, I asked them to please turn off music and go to bed. The immediate result was many more "f words, it was not a pleasant exchange. They were all drunk, one can't reason with drunks, they finally turned in around 3:30 a m. So yes, if you want to come to ARTisINN and party hard; please don't. Thank you, Sherry Gansle ARTisINN

Great stay and accommodations

  • 4 of 5

Awesome views, close to boat ramp and park. Everything we needed was there. Beautiful artistry throughout the entire house. Would recommend treating pets prior to arrival for fleas, wooded areas tend to be havens for those little boogers.

Perfect for our family of five.

  • 5 of 5

This home is beautiful. What a great view of the lake! Comal park is a very short drive. The floor plan was perfect for us. 3 kids slept very comfortably in the Oasis, while my husband and I had the other room. Great kitchen and laundry room! Wished we could have stayed longer.
