Lani & Leon Rome
My husband and I spent 5 years, and in as many countries looking for that perfect balance, a place that encompassed both our dreams and desires. When we found our property on top of this ridge my husband looked down upon the jungle and mangroves below and further out at the bright azure ocean, with a million shining diamonds dancing on the water. He looked at me and said 'guess I wont be needing these high blood pressure pills anymore' and he was RIGHT!
Please, won't you join us in our tropical paradise and experience the luxury that we ALL should be entitled too.
Lani Rome purchased this house in 2014
Location! We are in the most southern part of the zone, the drive up is not a hair raising 1/2 hour white knuckle drive, but a pleasant drive with a gentle incline as you traverse the mountain instead of going straight up! We are also on a 'loop' road which means there are 2 ways in and out. So if your coming back from the south after touring the mangroves or from the north after a day at the Whales Tail, there are 2 entrances, a very handy and important feature!
Then of course the views, the sites, sounds and smells, incomparable to ANYWHERE I have been before (and my husband and I are seasoned world travelers)
As for why we built instead of buying, we simply had a special vision in mind, and location too! Also, I love the idea of building our own 'jungle retreat', I worked closely with the architects' and picked out every tile, faucet and paint color you will see. It was a labor of love, and we are very proud of our hard work and beautiful home and Villa.
With incredible affordable luxury and location, we know you will agree, we found our perfect nirvana! Come share it with us :)
It is an easy drive up, not an arduous long winding road with long drops off to the side! It is close to so many incredible beaches, tours, trails and waterfalls.
The road also has 2 ways in and 2 ways out which is very handy! Its at the perfect altitude, not too hot, and just cool enough in the evening.
The closest town is only 10 minutes away (Ojochal) and is known for its fine restaurants.
The villa's unique features are the views, the context and contrasts make it spectacular, along with unrivaled world-class sunsets! The stars at night, will leave you wanting to sleep outside, but the comfort and quality of your personal villa will also be calling you in sooner or later.
The last unique benefit of renting with us is that we also own the Ojochal Tourist and Business Center. We help our guests plan and book their tours before they even leave home, so once they arrive, the only thing to do is relax, enjoy and live the PURA VIDA!
This is our third trip to Southern Costa Rica. This rental unit was the best one we've stayed in so far and it was the cheapest as well. Lani and Leon, the owners, were extremely kind and made the stay very pleasant. If you're looking for a jungle adventure with an ocean view, stay here.
Ma family and I spent 4 days at the casita and it was great. Lani and Leon made sure everything was to our delight and spent time and effort to suggest activities we could do.
The place was comfortable and the view was stunning. We even saw toucans in the trees!
I recommend this place, especially if you want to spent time away from the city, the noise and the daily stress.
Although when we read the reviews we thought this is too good to be true, we booked the casita for two and a half week over the 2015 Holiday Season since it is located in the area where we wanted to be, the pictures looked good and the inclusives fulfilled our requirements. We had quite a surprise upon our arrival. Everything mentioned in the reviews is true but the description, the pictures and the reviews do not provide the extraordinary feeling you get once there. This place is outstanding. The life of the rich and famous in the jungle. And the hosts (Lani and Leon) are incredible people. They will do everything they can and even more to make sure your stay is unforgettable while respecting your privacy. We will definitively go back.
My husband and I traveled to Costa Rica for the first time this October and stayed a week in this lovely casita. We met our host after a long drive from San Jose and she happily greeted us and led us up the winding dirt road on her 4-wheeler. Once we arrived at the casita we were given a tour. The home was beautiful filled with wonderful little touches and a stocked fridge. The back of the home had a spacious patio and a small dip pool that is adjacent to the hosts home. Our mornings were spent on the back patio overlooking the valley and the Pacific ocean. The views are to die for. Afternoons were spent on the lovely beaches that were a short drive away. Our hosts were very accommodating, looking after our every need. We were even given a personal tour one day of the local beaches and waterfalls. This home is a wonderful get-away in the jungle without being too far from civilization.
This beautifully situated piece of paradise in the middle of the jungle of the South Pacific side of Costa Rica truly blew us away. It is only 30 minutes away from endless coastline where coconut palms come right down to the sandy beach, with warm blue ocean great for snorkelling, with waves ideal for surfing. The sea is free of any creatures that bite or sting which made our beach days even more enjoyable and relaxing.
The casita itself is outstanding! It is a spacious and fully equipped two bedroom with a large walk in shower. The kitchen has everything you could possibly want to make gourmet meals or a quick lunch. It comes fully loaded with microwave, blender (for fresh fruit smoothies), coffee maker, radio, wifi and a large screen HD TV with full cable (which we never turned on as our days were always full!). The covered outdoor patio has a breath taking view and faces west for superb daily sunsets over the Pacific. The sights and sounds surrounding us were totally amazing! There were all sorts of bright birds such as toucans, parrots (and other colourful birdies), monkeys howling as they migrate daily up and down the mountain, and the evening buzzing of cicadas and frogs . Everywhere you look you will see myriads of beautiful butterflies, exotic plants, gorgeous flowers, and tropical trees of all sorts. It actually felt like being on a different planet altogether! Jurassic park! ... And the stars, tons of stars... So bright (the Skyview app is a must there)! Our private large sun deck was perfect for sunbathing and lounging around, and it even included a whirl pool for our exclusive use, ideal for star gazing at night.
We have stayed in high end places all around the world and this haven was simply breath taking. It is great for families or for a romantic getaway. Although the casita is in the middle of the jungle, it is relatively close to great restaurants of all price ranges and other amenities you may need, such as groceries, coffee shops, quaint bars with live music, even a bowling alley! Our hosts also are owner operators of the local tourist center and played a huge role in arranging our countless memorable adventures (white water rafting, zip lining, kayaking, jungle tours, snorkelling waterfalls trips, etc.) all close by, and car rental was even available through them. Bonus!
We definitely give it a 10/10!
We recently visited Costa Rica for 2 weeks after a 10 year hiatus and thought that we would venture to the southern zone, after spending our first trip entirely in the Arenal/Guanacaste areas.
We chose to spend our first 4 nights in Jaco this time around. Sorry, but just not our thing...too "touristy" for our liking.
In email correspondence with Lani, she had "warned" us that once we crossed the bridge at Dominical en route to our mountain Casita, we were entering Costa Rica's beautiful southern zone and that it would be an entirely different world...little did we know what we were in for! We had arranged to meet Lani at a gas station close to the turn off to their property to make our first trip up the hill a little easier (a courtesy that she extends to all of her new guests!), and believe us, Lani was even spunkier in real life than she was in her emails with us! After a short trip, following Lani on her quad, we arrived at our "home" for the next week and were greeted by her husband Leon. Once we got over the "WOW" factor of the view from the deck of the casita, Lani and Leon gave us the tour of the casita and property, which only increased the "WOW" factor. Our first evening was spent sitting around with our gracious new hosts, sharing a few beverages and some freshly caught tuna that Lani had picked up fro a local fisherman earlier in the day.
Though the property is the perfect place to just sit and read a book, take a plunge in the pool, relax in the sun, have a nap...there is just so much to do in this area. It helps that Lani is an owner of the Ojachal Tourist Centre. With the help of Lani and her partner Karen we lined up some excellent local tours, and these ladies will not steer you wrong. Lani knows EVERY local "must see" location, and we had the opportunity to see hidden gems in the area that most tourists don't get to see (we even had a "personal" guide for a few afternoons!)
In short, we could go on and on about what we did and how much fun we had, but here's the low down on our time spent at Lani and Leon's Casita:
- no matter how good the pictures, they do not do this place justice...not just the views, but you can't hear the morning sounds of the howler monkeys, the sounds of the birds, the sounds of the valley you look out on!
- we could have lived in the casita and never have left!
- Lani and Leon go out of their way to make sure that everything is right...including becoming great friends!!!
The Southern Zone is approximately 30 kilometers long. It is made up of 3 towns, Dominical, Uvita and Ojochal. We are located just south of Ojochal.
As you drive along the Costenara the beautiful scenery, mountains and ocean views will take your breath away!
However I strongly suggest taking the time to visit each town as they are all very unique and offer different types of restaurant's, beaches, stores, tours etc.
Or you can always come into the Ojochal Tour & Business Center where our travel consultant will sit with you and go over ALL the amazing things to do and see in the Zone and beyond!
