About Doreen Brandolini

This home was built by my father in 2003, who lovingly cared for the perennial gardens, built the arched arbors over the walkways, and hand braided all of the rugs in the home. We inherited it from him when he passed away in 2013, and since we live only a mile away, are now renting it out. Over the years our children spent many hours fishing in front of the house, and all of my father's visitors have remarked that this truly is a slice of heaven. He named the house 'Pop's Place', and it's a special place that you're sure to love!

Doreen Brandolini purchased this house in 2013

It is a beautiful home. Clean and every amenity was there.

We truly enjoyed our stay in your home. It was immaculate. Everything clean. The towels, linens, duvet covers, pillows, were a 100%. The kitchen had all one needed. I loved the choice of coffee makers. I felt like I was home away from home. What a great place to have our family together for Ryan and Susie's wedding weekend. Thank you for renting it to us.

Better than the Pictures!

  • 5 of 5

When we walked into this special cottage my first thought that was that it was so immaculate! My next thought was that the interior looked even better than the pictures. I love comfortable beds & nice bedding and everything here was perfect! So we were instantly happy. Also loved that Doreen & John have in place every single thing you will need for your stay. Down to the smallest things like books & picnic stuff. Blowdryers, shampoo! I would have brought less stuff had I known. We especially loved & often used the canoe & the row boat. Also really appreciated their "Welcome Book" because its loaded with all the great things to do & places to go, down to menus for all the restaurants which was great because we were so driven to just get there we didnt have time to really research what we wanted to do once we had arrived. So that was great. When ever we needed something or had a question they would text us right back with the answer. There is a rather busy road across the lake that at times was heavy traffic, but that didnt bother us much. We stayed 10 days and honestly wished we could have stayed a little longer! Doreen & John are truly so friendly & great, that they reminded us of all our friends back here in Santa Barbara! Wonderful romantic experience for us & our favorite part of our 3 week trip! So glad we went!

Everything We Wanted and More!

  • 5 of 5

We actually rented a house on Pleasant Lake for two weeks when my daughter found it for sale. I had to scramble to find this rental on Otter Pond and we could not have been more pleased. There were 5 adults and 2 kids. My husband and I slept in the twin bedroom - the mattress was a bit firm for me, but, my husband found them to be perfect. The home was clean and nicely decorated. John and Doreen greeted us when we arrived. The yard had plenty of chairs, a picnic table, fire pit with kindling, and some lawn games. There was a dock with a row boat - our 6 year old grandson caught his first fish. One thing I would add is a ladder going into and out of the water. There are steps, but, they are slippery and one rock that tilts - they did warn us. No AC but there was a nice breeze coming into the house and the ceiling fans kept everything nice. There is a not screened in porch with a gas grill where we had plenty of nice meals and played games. The kitchen was well equipped with a microwave, keurig, and even a dishwasher. John and Doreen left a nice basket with marshmallows, graham crackers, wine, crackers, and fruit roll ups. There is a washer and dryer in the basement. We also enjoyed Dewey Beach which was on Lake Sunapee and were able to paddle board, kayak, and paddle boats for free. The grocery store is only 3 miles away along with other conveniences. Don't hesitate to book here. You will not be disappointed.

We love Pop's Place

  • 4 of 5

We love this cute cabin on Otter Pond. It's a perfect size and is very clean. The water is wonderful. The fishing is great.

Our only concerns are the entry into the water is a little unstable and slippery as it's not a beach, it's rocks and a concrete step. And, if you have elderly people with you, the downstairs shower is easy to get in and out of and does have a seat. It's just a bit slippery so I recommend bringing along one of those suction cup bath/shower handles for safety sake. Also, be careful as to NOT mistake the basement door for the bathroom as I did in the middle of the night, it's not a pleasant experience.

Owner's Response: Carol--thanks so much for your review. We're glad that you and your family enjoyed your return visit to Pop's Place. I also want to thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. Although none of these things had changed since your last visit, we do take your comments seriously, and would like to address each of them for future renters. The house is advertised as having 'direct waterfront' as opposed to a beach, and unfortunately, shorefront regulations prohibit us from altering the access into the water. We do point out to all of our guests upon arrival that the steps are uneven, but as soon as we have a vacancy, we will see if there is anything we can legally do to make them better. The recommendation for us to install a grab bar in the shower is a great one, and something that we hadn't even thought of. We will take care of this before our next guests arrive. There IS a lock on the basement door, which should prevent someone from mistaking it for the bathroom. This is something else that we point out to all of our guests when they check in, and in the future, we will be sure and repeat it twice. Again, thank you for returning to Pop's Place.

Beautiful and peaceful get away

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed here at the end of May. We have three school age kids. The cabin was plenty big for all five. It was very clean and had many extras- books, games, many kitchen items not usually at rentals, lots of extra linens, blankets and towels. We met Doreen and her husband and they are delightful!

The lake is clean and beautiful. There are life jackets and rafts at the cabin. Also a row boat. We also rented kayaks in New London and that turned out to be a great idea because we used them a lot. The fishing is spectacular- we all easily caught many fish. We catch and release- so they are still there to catch again:).

Lots to do in the area. Locals are helpful and friendly.

The only tiny thing that wasn't completely perfect is that there is a main road across the pond from the cabin. It is only a two lane road, but the traffic is frequent during the day. It is very quiet at night though. This isn't something that the cabin owners have any control over, so that's why I gave as many stars as I could for the review.

Just Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect cabin! Doreen was a wonderful hostess. The home was immaculate, beautifully decorated, and well stocked with an abundance of supplies. We spent days fishing, playing games, and sitting on the back porch. We made wonderful memories, and look forward to our next visit!
