Would not give this property a 5 star rating. Should have been a 1 rating.

  • 1 of 5

We were very unhappy with our stay in DC. Your 5 star rating should have been a 1 star. We found mouse droppings and bugs on the kitchen counter. First clue was big sign on refrigerator that said DO NOT LEAVE FOOD OUT ON COUNTER. PUT IN FRIG OR IN THE GARBAGE CAN. The furniture was in VERY poor condition and very uncomfortable. ( Had 2X4s to hold it up) The hard wood floors squeaked very badly and would pinch your feet when you walked on them. The master bedroom floor sloped 2 to 3 inches from one side to the other side of the room. The ceiling was falling down. The shower was a plastic curtain around a claw foot bathtub. Very hard to get in and out of and couldn't imagine if we were in our 80's or even disabled. Some of the lights had bulbs that didn't work. We did not have a bad experience in the neighborhood but was not a neighborhood I would have picked out if I had known the area it was in. The kitchen area was very small. Only room for 1 person at a time. The house was not as clean as I would have expected. Heavy dust on wall radiators and floors surrounding them. One shade had some holes in it. Just wasn't what we thought it would be compared to the pictures. We decided that anyone can photo shop to make things look different. After my experience at this place we will not be using VRBO again. And of course we are going to be telling our friends about our experience with VRBO.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry you had an unpleasant stay at my home. The photos of my home have not been photoshopped at all. I wish you would have alerted me during your stay so I could address any issues you had. I have a cleaning person come in between every booking and I inspect it afterwards so I don't know why you would have seen ANY bugs or "mouse droppings". The sign on the fridge is so guests will keep the area clean and clear of food so as not to attract any pest since my home is in the city. Yes, my home was built pre-war (1929), it is old and has original hard wood floors. I'm sorry you didnt think the furniture was comfortable but it is in good condition, there are no holes, no rips and no stains and the wood you saw is not holding it up, there are no holes in my ceiling. You had no problems in my neighborhood but you still didn't like it?? If you read through my listing I list the clawfoot tub, the age of my home, what it has and does not have. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I know I can't please every guest, hopefully your next experience will be better and reading and looking carefully through the listings will help.

Our group of 7 women were completely comfortable at Dawn's home. All amenities were provided. Great location and we would definitely love to rent again. Hung out in the kitchen and appreciate the hospitality.

Outstanding Home!

  • 5 of 5

My family enjoyed a warm and welcoming experience from our first step through the door. The house is lovely and has the charm of an older home with the modern conveniences we all love today. Dawn is a wonderful hostess and is quick to respond to questions. She provided handy conveniences, I wouldn’t have thought to pack, such as umbrellas and a shopping bag. The Hip Hop Chicken and Fish one block from the house has amazing food and it is WAY under-priced. The bus ride to Union Station is a quick, less than 2 miles trip, or you can drive down H Street and park at Union Station for about $20 for 4 hours and then ride the Circular bus all around DC for only $1 per person. If you are looking for a place to stay to enjoy all of the amenities of home while touring all Washington DC has to offer downtown then this is the place for your family to stay too. If we return to DC we will stay here.
