THE NEIGHBORHOOD

We love Atwater because it is so pedestrian-friendly and bike-happy (flat terrain with awesome weather) so that you can pretty much get yourself anywhere. Now the best part - you can get yourself to world class coffee/bakeries (Proof + Village Bakery), acclaimed breweries (Eagle Rock and Golden Road), award winning restaurants, cafes (Canele, Momed, All'Acqua) and uber groovy stores such as Individual Medley and Common.

GETTING AROUND

LA is traditionally a car town however we're increasingly walking and biking everywhere here now. Several of our guests have used ONLY public transport for their trip (originating to/from LAX uand around) and have had a glorious time. Once you're here you can literally walk everywhere, including along the lovely LA River.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

Do yourself a favor and do a quick internet search of Atwater Village and you'll discover fascinating history about Walt Disney (including his regular table at Tam O'Shanters and his homage to our famous Hyperion bridge at Disneyland). Most overlooked is our awesome LA River, which our family walks every morning, marveling at the greater herons, ducks and a myriad of wildlife!

Perfectly charming!

  • 4 of 5

Delightful above garage apartment in Atwater Village area. Be aware there is a stairway up to the apartment that may be difficult for people with bad knees or stability. For us it was conveniently located near Forest Lawn Cemetery for the funeral we were attending that week. There was also good access to local restaurants and shopping.

The host was very friendly and always helpful when we needed it. The place was clean and comfortable with a sweet gift basket of coffee and snacks to start our visit out right. I will definitively want to stay here if we return to the area again.

Comfy, charming, well-appointed -- and a great host!

  • 5 of 5

Before the stay, Shelli-Anne was in communication with us about all the details, which made our arrival at the place -- after 90 minutes in rush hour traffic from LAX -- nice and easy.

As promised in the listing, Wally the fluffy white dog began barking as soon as we pulled in to the driveway, and Shelli-Anne was in fact there with a "G'Day!" She showed us the rental, which is above the garage. It's clean, bright, and well-appointed. The utensils, cookware and glassware are the kind you'd have in your own home, not the usual cheap vacation-rental crap. There was coffee in the cupboard; wine, beer, and bottled water in the fridge; and snacks on the counter. All made for a very nice welcome after that god-awful traffic! After we unpacked Shelli-Anne gave us a tour of her beautiful garden.

Laundry is easily accessible in the garage under the house, and one day while changing a load we met Shelli-Anne's outgoing and charismatic daughter, who was making slime with her friends. The family presence definitely made the place feel like a home and not a hotel, which is just what we were looking for.

Definitely recommend!

Quiet and quaint

  • 4 of 5

The owner is very friendly and helpful. The property was very clean and neat. It had everything we needed. The queen bed is very low to the ground so if you have back issues it will be a challenge. The heater is only in the front room where the fold out bed is so if you need it warm you may want to bring a small portable heater. The location is close to the freeway but you do not hear the noise. I would consider returning in the future.

Delightful!!

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for better accommodations or more delightful hosts! They had thought of everything to make your stay the most pleasurable it could be. The wonderful basket of treats waiting for our arrival let us know we were staying with warm, caring people--and as soon as we met them, we felt we'd known them forever. You will not be disappointed with anything about this rental!
