About Roxanne Britt

My husband and I both grew up in Florida. My family owned several farms including a tomato farm, horse farm, and an orange grove. My mother's side of the family were fisherman hence my love of all things related to water. My husband's father was in law enforcement and his mother was a teacher and he spent many of his summers on his grandfather's farm. After working as a deputy and then a special agent in law enforcement for over 10 years my husband decided to go to law school. I worked as a speech-language pathologist and raised our girls while he attended law school. When he graduated we decided to go for it and hung out his shingle so to speak. Turns out it was a very good decision! I have since joined his firm as an investigator and we get to spend every day together. Our daughters are both active in sports playing soccer, volleyball, running track and cross country and of course surfing every chance they get. As a family we love to get out and do things on the adventurous side. Costa Rica is the perfect place for us and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Roxanne Britt purchased this condo in 2014

Why Roxanne Britt chose Puntarenas

Costa Rica is a beautiful country and Jaco is a perfect fit for our adventure seeking, fun loving family! My husband speaks Spanish very well but my two teenage daughters and I are definitely beginners so the fact that English is spoken by many of the locals and transplants was a huge plus for us! I have travelled alone in Costa Rica and never had a problem finding someone I could communicate with easily. The currency is easy to figure out as well and most establishments will accept both American dollars and colones. (If you pay in dollars you will get colones in change) Another key factor for us purchasing in Jaco is the surfing! I have surfed in a few different locations including Florida's East coast and Hawaii and I can honestly say Jaco is my favorite! Now, my experience is somewhat limited but Jaco Beach surf has never disappointed me and if you are looking for a slightly larger surf we are only 5 minutes by cab to Playa Hermosa where they host the Backyard Surf Competition every Saturday afternoon! You would literally have to spend months in Jaco to be able to truly experience everything there is to enjoy here. Waterfall climbing, waterfall jumping, zip lining, white water rafting, hiking, river camping, bird watching, wild monkey feeding, crocodile tours, kayaking, paddleboarding, surfing, volcanoes, hot springs...the list goes on and on! Be mindful when planning a trip to may fall in love like we did and return again and again! Pura Vida!

What makes this condo unique

We chose Jaco Beach Village #15 for many reasons. What's not to love about a place on the ocean with beautifully maintained gardens, a hot tub and pool with gorgeous surroundings to lounge around, 24 hour security in a small, cozy, gated community just a couple minutes walk from town? The hook for me though? The patio. You see I love my coffee and my wine and I now have the perfect spot with the perfect view to enjoy both! I can sit on my patio and watch my daughters surf in the morning while I enjoy my morning cup of java...or two or three. Then in the evening, on afternoons where I have surfed myself to exhaustion and simply don't have the energy left to walk on the beach at sunset, I can pour my husband and I a glass of vino and watch the sunset from our deck chairs while soaking up the pura vida!

Car: not necessary

We refer to this little piece of paradise as our 'happy place'. My husband first traveled to Costa Rica in May of 2013. He was instantly taken and called to tell me he had found our second home. 5 months later he brought me down for our 17 year anniversary and I fell in love as well. When we brought our teenage daughters down for Christmas of the same year and couldn't drag them off their surfboards, we knew it was a done deal and began looking for a place of our own.

I can honestly say I've seen almost every property on the beach in this area and Jaco Beach Village is the best. Our unit is a 2 bedroom / 2 bath condo with every amenity you may need. The master bedroom has a queen size bed, a walk in closet with a safe, private bath and a door leading to the patio. The second bedroom has 2 queen size beds and plenty of closet space as well. The living room and dining area are beautifully furnished and the kitchen has everything you need (although I suggest taking advantage of the amazing food at the local restaurants and bars). Wifi and cable, including HBO, are available and all 3 TV's have SAP ability so many of the channels can be changed to English. There is also local phone service so that you can make reservations for dining or excursions or make arrangements for a driver to take you to the airport or excursions that are farther away.

Our favorite feature of the unit is the patio where you can enjoy your morning coffee with an ocean view. If you find that you don't feel like a walk on the beach at sunset just pour yourself a cocktail, have a seat and watch it from your patio! All of this can be enjoyed from the privacy of our small gated community with 24 hour security but we know you won't be able to resist venturing out to enjoy all that Jaco Beach and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Surfboards and lounge chairs can be rented at any one of several rental stations on the beach and the boards come complete with lessons at a VERY reasonable price. There are numerous restaurants and bars all within short walking distance both on the beach and in town (or you can take a cab to anywhere in Jaco for under $3). I highly recommend you take advantage of our 'A-Z To Do' list located in the unit filled with all of the best dining and adventures starting with All-Terrain buggy tours up to the waterfalls (you drive your own and follow the guide) and ending with Zip-Lining (upside down if you're daring enough)!

When you arrive in San Jose there are several ways to get to Jaco including by Taxi, a pre-arranged driver, or by bus. We have travelled by driver and by bus and have had nothing but great experiences. The bus takes a little bit longer but will cost you only $5 per person where the driver will cost you around $95 (plus tip) for up to four people usually (if you have more in your party make sure to specify that so they will bring a larger car) depending on the size of the car. The up side to a driver is that you can make a stop at the crocodile river on your way to Jaco and enjoy some mango ceviche or a fresh smoothie while watching the giant crocodiles from the bridge! My personal recommendation is to take a driver to Jaco so that you don't miss the crocodiles and then a bus back to the airport at the end of your trip. (Be sure and purchase your bus tickets the day before departure so that you can be assured an assigned seat.)

Upon your arrival at Jaco Beach Village you will be greeted by our property manager who will give you your keys and a tour of the property. He will also collect the $300 cash security deposit. At the time of your checkout he will do a quick inspection and, if all is in order, return your $300 cash security deposit to you. If you have any questions at all including who to call for a ride from the airport and the best airlines to take (in our opinion based on trial and error:) please do not hesitate. We hope you enjoy your stay and love our little 'happy place' as much as we do!

The PERFECT place to stay in Jaco!

  • 5 of 5

I just returned from Roxanne and Charlie's condo in Jaco and I can't say enough about how great our experience was. It was the first time my family of 6 traveled to Costa Rica and it was a vacation we will never forget. Jaco Beach Village is by far the nicest condo complex in the area. There are only 16 units and the design makes it feel very private and homey. The condo has every amenity that you could possibly need and the location is great. Roxanne sent us information to make our trip much more enjoyable. She even helped us get in contact with a great bilingual driver, Jose, to pick us up at the airport and take us on a day trip. This is the first time that we didn't have to rent a car on a trip and we loved it! Having a driver and being within walking distance of so much took all of the stress out of our trip. We walked to the Mas x Menos grocery store almost everyday and got everything we needed to prepare meals in the condo. My 4 daughters are picky eaters so we didn't eat out a lot because we wanted to save money for tours. There were hundreds of restaurants within walking distance that looked great if you are looking for a culinary experience. Norm, the property manager was also very helpful. He answered all of our questions about the location and was always available if we had a problem. Copy our itinerary below and I promise you will have a great trip!

Day 1 - Arrive in San Jose and have Jose transfer you to the condo (1.5 hours, $100)

Day 2 - Spend the day at the beach in Jaco and go grocery shopping

Day 3 - Call Vista Los Suenos to pick you up and take you horseback riding to a waterfall. We had 2 tour guides for the 6 of us and it was great. (4 hours, $75)

Day 4 - Call Vista Los Suenos again to go zip lining. They had 13 platforms and were very professional. Even my 8 year old went by herself! (4 hours, $65)

Day 5 - Relax in Jaco and take a surf lesson. ($40)

Day 6 - Take a catameran tour on the Costa Cat to Tortuga Island to snorkel, ride a banana boat, eat a great lunch, and hike. (10 hours, $135)

Day 7 - Call Jose ($200) to take you to the Chino Monkey Mangrove Tour and hold a Capuchin monkey ($40) and then continue to El Avion restaurant for lunch, and then Manual Antonio Park ($16) to hike and see monkeys, sloths, crabs, and deer.

Day 8 - Call Jose to take you back to the airport ($100)

I'm sure all of the prices change often! Thank you Roxanne and Charlie for sharing your awesome home with us for our trip!

Beautiful Beach property with AMAZING view!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay here was a wonderful experience. It was very clean and comfortable. The views were amazing of the pool and beach. Norm the house manager was super to work with and communicate with. He was so helpful and available for help. Roxanne helped so much with our questions and gave amazing suggestions. We loved that all the amazing restaurants were within walking distance and the Jaco Walk was amazing. You cannot miss The Green Room for breakfast! By far the best meal we had in Jaco!! We also loved that the condo was in a gated community. The guard was very attentive to everything going on. Wonderful time in Costa Rica!!! Thank you to the Britt Family!

Great location and great property, but...

  • 4 of 5

This is a really nice condo, in a good, quiet location, in a gated community. Right on the beach, with a view of the beach and sunset. We were really comfortable. Norm, who greeted us, was great. He took good care of us. And working with the owner beforehand was really easy. She was great to deal with.

You get a designated, reserved parking spot. The pool is nice and cool. We loved the patio for our meals. Location was great--pretty much right in the middle of the beach. Walk north or south, you'll enjoy it. Beds were comfortable. AC and TV worked just great. About half the time we were there, the Internet was glacially slow to the point of not usable.

And we really enjoyed Jaco. It was pretty central to many of the activies we wanted to do, primarily, spending time at the beach.

This could have been a five-star rated location except:

-When we got there, it was not clean. There were dead ants on the floor (and live ones), and the back of the entry way door was moldy. And my wife believes that the sheets in the master bedroom had been slept on--I can't confirm, as she went to bed long before I did. Norm, the property manager, was great. He let us in and saw the mess. He arranged to have it cleaned. The cleaning crew came by the next afternoon and was there 3-4 hours.

-The other thing is that there were ants pretty much the entire time of our stay. They did not bother me, really. And maybe this is the norm for Costa Rica. I mean, hey, it is a jungle. Norm sprayed laid an insecticide barrier around the entry and the patio. Not sure if it helped. I also saw an enormous cockroach, so I was really careful after that to never leave any food out ever, even in the sink. Again, maybe that's just the CR for you.

-There are just a few nice touches that could make this place nicer, like better and more bath towels. And a few more beach towels (Norm hooked us up with a few more of his own). Soap and shampoo maybe. Water pressure in the master shower is really weak. It was a bit better in the guest shower. There was no trash can in the kitchen--we just hung up a garbage sack. The dishwasher soap was unusable--caked solid. And a few beach toys/gear would be nice. Again, not a big deal. But when I've stayed in beach condos in the past, I've had some provide those and that was really nice.

Having said all that, I'd probably stay there again, and give it another try. Norm took good care of us. And once it got cleaned up, we felt really comfortable there.

Owner's Response: I am glad that you ultimately enjoyed your stay but I am sorry you were not completely satisfied. We have never had a complaint about the cleanliness of the condo and I am very sorry you were inconvenienced. It is my understanding that our property manager had it taken care of as soon as possible so I hope it was done to your satisfaction. As for the mold on the was a rainy December and mold grows quickly in that environment. The ants are a part of living near the jungle but I did notify our condo association to see what, if anything, they can do as it seems to be a problem in that area. We have had toys and beach towels in the past but unfortunately they have a habit of walking away and while we try to provide some things like TP and dish soap we do not provide toiletries but they can be purchased at the local grocery. After your post we did purchase a larger garbage can in addition to the smaller one under the kitchen sink and on our visit down last week my husband took apart the shower heads in the bathrooms and found sediment clogging them which did affect the water pressure. (Unfortunately this is another side affect of the hard water). Again, I am sorry you were not completely satisfied but I hope you enjoyed your stay none the less and we hope you will come back again! Paradise with all the amenities of home!

  • 5 of 5

I can't begin to explain how incredible our stay was at this beautiful condo. Our family of four (kids are 15 & 16) have travelled extensively, but mainly to all inclusive resorts. We were a little nervous going to a Central American country without the assurances and assistance of a travel company, but we were definitely ready to try something new. It could not have been easier. The condo owners were extremely helpful, we spoke/emailed several times prior to leaving and Roxanne provided us with a ton of invaluable information. Once we arrived, Norm, the property manager was equally helpful and fully available for the duration of our stay. The pictures of this condo and the gated property do not do it justice. Inside the condo was no different than an upscale condo in downtown Chicago, yet the second you step out on the balcony you know you are somewhere very special. The condo rooms are exactly as pictured. Air conditioning is a must in Jaco, and ours worked perfectly and was adjustable for each room. All the appliances worked as they should. My daughter and I even baked Christmas cookies on Christmas Eve!! The property was very well maintained, the pool was so inviting and refreshing after our long walks on the beach. There are a pair of scarlet macaws that regularly come and sit in the almond tree beside the pool to get out of the sun during the day! We were greated every morning by iguanas sunning themselves in the trees outside of our kitchen window. We loved that the property was very small and personal. We also loved that the vast beach had very few tourists and was virtually empty almost every day! My son took surfing lessons shortly after arriving and then rented a surf board on other days for only $10/day! The central location of this condo is perfect for day excursions. Our favorite was the monkey mangrove tour, very professional outfit with a knowledgable guide and the sweet, gentle wild capuchin monkeys actually come onto your boat!!! Groceries are a 5 minute walk from the condo and the small grocery store has absolutely everything you would find at home (including top shelf alcohol). There is a huge selection of restaurants within a 10 minute walk of the condo. We had no problem communicating in English wherever we went in Jaco. If you are on the fence at all regarding this location or this property, you shouldn't be. We would go back in a heartbeat. It was a flawless and other worldly experience that my family will never forget.

My family of 5 loved everything about the country, this condo, and our New Years vacation!

The owner was quick to respond, very personable, available, and always pleasant. The property manager was just as helpful and nice.

The condo itself looks just like the pictures- the beds are very comfortable and the patio makes sunsets looks like they are made for you.

The beach is mere steps away and we all enjoyed the warm water and surfable waves. The pool is a beautiful design and wonderfully refreshing!

Jaco is full of great shops, restaurants, and activity. We rented surf boards, ate at many local restaurants, took an ATV tour to a waterfall, played at the beach, relaxed by the pool, and enjoyed New Years Eve fireworks along the beach!

All in all I can't say enough good about this find! We will definitely be returning!
