The surfers call this the log cabin of South Mission Beach. This cozy home on a quiet courtyard has high ceilings and knotty-pine walls. It is immaculate and has all you need for an excellent vacation getaway, including: beach towels, sand chairs, flat-screen TV's, bikes, and a fully outfitted kitchen. Our home is upstairs allowing you to enjoy all the beach life, and then retreating to your secure upstairs home with a patio which is well furnished and has a built-in gas bar-b-q. One parking spot in the garage is your's, along with a garage door opener. Head back home with clean clothes, there's a washer and dryer in the garage for our guests use. Mission Beach is a perfect location for San Diego's varied water activities: surfing, boogie boarding, paddle boarding, kayaking, and if you're up for it jet-pak hijinks. Mission Beach is also a perfect spring-board for all the other activities San Diego has to offer: golfing, shopping, Navy ship tours, Old Town, Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, and Sea World.
My sister and I have been beach lovers all our lives. We are native San Diegans, and live near by.
Judi Nodurft and April Conner purchased this house in 1986
We were immediately drawn to the charm of this property. It's not like all the others, for a beach home, it has a uniquely mountain feel.
We love that the house gives you the feeling of being away from it all. It's our little piece of heaven. Our courtyard is quiet, and gives easy, quick walking access to the beach and bay. Sitting on the deck lets you watch all the Mission Beach life, but also provides quiet privacy.
We were very pleased with this Mission Beach rental. The attention to detail by the owners, April and Judi, make this a welcoming and comfortable environment. Bicycles, SUP availability, and being able to use the laundry is a plus. Off street parking provides easy access to a car since almost all the on-street parking is taken up on the weekends. The heating system made our Dec. – Jan. visit more comfortable. We agree with all the recommendations that accompany the description of this property.
This is quintessential Mission Beach living with some added perks. You can walk to the beach and the bay yet it has a very private deck and privacy is hard to find in this area. There is no adjoining wall to anyone, the garage is underneath the place so you and your neighbors are never bothering each other. It is at the south end of the beach which is quieter than the north end yet there is still plenty of activity and it is within walking distance to the hub of activity, the roller coaster. Having a garage spot is critical in this area and having a washer and dryer is a huge bonus. The other bonus is how well the place is stocked. It has everything you need to make it a home for as long as you want to stay, I was there for 2 months. Plus it has a bundle of toys to have fun. Your hosts are awesome and eager to help if needed.
I was nervous about staying at a place I've never seen especially because out flight came in late and we have small children but this little cottage was extremely clean and the owners had all of the beds ready for us including the hide-a-bed. April was so great with all of the information prior to booking and responded quickly. She even checked in with us via text to ensure everything was going ok. The location was wonderful with the bay and ocean just a few steps away. The cottage is more spacious than you'd expect with a ton of storage so you aren't tripping over your suitcases. You could even fit a pack in play in a closet if you wanted. The patio is a wonderful hang out spot. With laundry, a garage, nice appliances and cooking utensils, boogie boards, paddle boards, bikes we were all very happy. The airplanes are loud all day/night but we got used to after the first couple nights. Don't pass this place up are family of four was very pleased.
From the moment we arrived till the time we left, this was home!
Location... The place was so easy to find and close to the bay and ocean.
House itself ... Very clean! Shower had great pressure. Had everything we needed to cook, BBQ, and enjoy the area. Lots of windows so house had a great flow of air. Bed and couch were comfy after a long day.
The deck... This was our favourite! We would sit out there for breakfast & afternoon drinks. The BBQ was great. Used it 4 times on trip. Great spot to sit back, have a drink & people watch! Outdoor living space was beautiful!
We spent a lot of time biking the boardwalk. It was an added bonus to have the bikes included as everything was so close. One day we went for coffee down the boardwalk and ended up riding all the way to La Jolla (14 miles return). It was an amazing journey!
The owners of this unit made sure we were informed about everything to do in the area and also were great to deal with! Booking was easy and had lots of communication. They answered all my questions and even suggested things I hadn't thought of.
We travel a lot and have to say, this place was AMAZING! The unit was dated (carpets & wood panels) but it was so cozy and we felt safe! Staying here, we felt like part of the community of Mission Beach.
Just got home last night and already talking about going back to this place in the Fall.
Would recommend to anyone who wants to get away and RELAX!
This Mission Bay home is the place to stay. We loved every minute of our vacation. The owners are so wonderful!!! Our second day there, my husband locked the keys inside.......they had someone help us immediately. Amazing service, Thank You ladies!!!! The location is perfect, the home was very spacious and they have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The home was very clean & the kitchen has everything you need for your stay (also the appliances are very nice especially the stove) We were at the beach every day and it was nice to have towels and chairs. The patio is also very nice. I wish I could keep this place a secret so it would be available just for my family. We are ready to go back. We considered going for a month in the summer but the place is BOOKED!! It's nice that it's so close to the San Diego Zoo, Legoland and the downtown area. Just a little FYI, you are close to the airport so you do hear airplanes through out the day.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at April and Judi’s place. We loved the location in the south end and the very short walking distance to either the beach or the bay. The unit itself is clean, has plenty of windows with lots of natural light, the upgrades were done in all the right places and it is furnished/stocked with everything you need. Having the bikes was a bonus-we rode them every day. Also great to have the garage, laundry and spacious deck. We enjoyed our walks along the boardwalk to the restaurants and pubs. We have found our San Diego “go to” place. April was wonderful to deal with.
South Mission Beach is convenient to downtown San Diego, Old Town, Balboa Park, Naval and Maritime Museums, as well as the best bike riding and walking any where. Enjoy the day on the wide sandy beach or bay, and then spend the afternoon strolling and shopping in La Jolla; to say nothing of terrific restaurants with fabulous views of the Pacific. Indian Gaming/Casinos are within a 1/2 hour/45 minute drive.
