Overview

About the property

If you are looking for a retreat to enjoy the out-of-doors and hear the rooster crow in the morning in a rural farm setting, Hill Top Farm may be your answer. At the head of the Hiawatha Valley it offers immediate access to a wide array of activities. Located on the Mississippi’s limestone bluff, 5 minutes from a boat launch you have access to the headwaters of Lake Pepin and its small river towns, each with its own attractions and personality. There is much to see: history museums, antique stores, YMCA, eateries, live theater, art displays, fall foliage, bald eagle and migratory water bird watching, trout streams and the Cannon Valley Trail for biking or walking. Or maybe you would like to mix the above, curled up on the couch reading or listening to the quiet while watching an outdoor fire burn in the evening. It’s your choice. (All of the above may periodically be interceded by some area farm activity.)

Hill Top Farm Guest House is intended to be more than a place to stay. It was chosen by location to slow the pace of life by disconnecting you from your usual and reconnecting you with your free spirit. It’s your time out.

This facility sleeps 10 with two full baths, complete kitchen, central A/C, comfortable baseboard heat, laundry facilities and WY-FI. It includes 1 queen size bed, 3 double beds and 2 single beds. Down stairs is a TV room and table tennis.

This get-a-way retreat gives you privacy, while offering you access to as much stimulation that you choose from a diverse menu of sights, sounds and activities.

About Barry Moen

Forty-two years ago, Nick and Betty Even escaped from a 40-foot lot in South Minneapolis to this rural, scenic location to raise their children and accept the challenges along with the freedom to enjoy the many soul-stimulating inspirations of rural life. They never once looked back.

Barry Moen purchased this house in 1972

Peace and Quiet!

  • 5 of 5

We are a group of women who were visiting the area for a class reunion. We loved our stay here! Barry (the property manager) was quick to reply to any messages I sent him before our arrival. We loved the corn fields bordering the property and the peace and quiet that surrounds it. We enjoyed spending time on the sunny deck too. I only wish we'd been able to spend more time there just hanging out. We were busy with reunion activities; otherwise, we would've loved to make use of the fire pit. We will definitely be back!

A wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We (10) were here almost a year ago, and absolutely loved it. We came for a wedding and both Nick and Barry were wonderful to us. Both went over and above to make our stay wonderful. The craziness of the event prevented us to truly enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the property but is a very nice home to spend time in. I hope one day we may return to enjoy a family vacation there without the wedding chaos.

Wonderful time and place

  • 5 of 5

We were 6 ladies that get together every year for a retreat, we loved it..I felt like I was visiting relatives..We also met the owner, Nick, and he was just a dream, an absolutely wonderful man. He was there when our hot water heater had a problem and brought a picnic table so we could all sit on the porch together. He wanted to bring wood for the fire pit but it was to cold outside. This is well worth the money and it has everything you need to stay, blankets, towels, pots and pans, dishes, coffee maker..anything and everything, we also brought to much stuff with us..We had a wonderful time. Thank you. Get well soon Barry...

A real GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time here! I must admit we packed way too much! They had all the daily cleaning supplies, towels, bedding, pots n pans, silverware, plates, tin foil, coffee filters, etc...everything you would use on a daily basis at home! The fire pit was a great place for smore's (even the sticks for those are provided!) and a relaxing place for the adults once all the kids are sleeping! This was a true getaway! I think we will be making the trip longer than a weekend next time, maybe even a yearly vacation! We met the owner, who was wonderfully welcoming! This place was accommodating for 5 children and 4 adults comfortably, and cheaper than we could've gotten a hotel ANYWHERE for! We will definitely be coming back!
