About Margaret Lansing

We added this upstairs retreat for friends and family more than 10 years ago and now we hope to share it with you. We live in the house behind the retreat so we are close if you need us but will honor your privacy. We have lived on this property since 1990 and in Ann Arbor for over 35 years. Ken teaches entrepreneurship part-time at the University of Michigan. Ken enjoys restoring woodworking machines in his workshop below the studio. Margaret works in communications for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and is a University of Michigan alumni. She loves gardening and putters in her perennial beds around the yard whenever possible.

Margaret Lansing purchased this studio in 1990

Why Margaret Lansing chose Ann Arbor

People from all over the world have enjoyed this special space; most people who visit plan to return. For some it’s the proximity to the university, others like the quiet and beauty of the yard. Everyone loves the location! We are easy to find, just 3 turns and 2.5 miles from the I-94 Ann Arbor Saline Rd. exit. We are close to downtown Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan and anything you might need.

You can’t get much closer to the athletic campus. We are a ten minute walk to Michigan Stadium. You can easily walk to most of the athletic campus venues in twenty minutes or less.

This is an amazing place for a short term lease--- hard to find in Ann Arbor. Perfect for short term stays for hospital staff, or a visiting scholar. It's less expensive than a hotel, easy access, closer to the action. Stay in a quiet neighborhood where you can relax, cook a meal, hang out and do a load of laundry.

What makes this studio unique

The studio space feels large. The open floor plan, with its high with vaulted ceiling, skylights, and windows, provide plenty of natural light. The upstairs deck adds an outdoor room. The building is made of structurally insulated panels; the thick walls hold in the temperature you want and keep out the noise. To achieve your perfect temperature, we have a wall-mounted mini split air conditioner as well as in-floor heating. If you are accustomed to the temperature oscillations that come with forced air heating, you are in for a treat. . In the warm weather you can enjoy the beautiful garden views and sitting out on your own beautiful deck complete with bistro table & chairs, and an outdoor outlet.

Charming, cozy, light filled apartment

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful, charming and quiet neighborhood apartment full of light and very cozy. We loved the skylights over the bed where the full moon lit up the night sky. We stayed for three months while our house, just two streets over, was being remodeled. Fabulous landlords! A real jewel for any Ann Arbor visit.

Fantastic Location

The loft was great, clean, and well supplied. The heated stone floors were awesome! All the instructions were clear. They even gave us some ice melt for the stairs on the day it snowed.

Lovely place to stay in Ann Arbor

  • 5 of 5

We were here for several days visiting family and were looking for an alternative to a hotel. Basically the studio is appropriate for a couple. It was great and had everything we needed in order to be self sufficient and do some minimal food prep. It had all the amenities in terms of TV, wifi, washer/dryer etc. The location was convenient and quiet and easy to access. I would definitely stay here again.

Comfortable, quiet, and private

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a lovely weekend at Margaret and Ken's studio. Gracious hosts and the accommodations are clean, well-appointed, incredibly convenient to UMich stadium and downtown but still quiet and private. The instructions for check in/out, entry, wifi, equipment use, etc. were flawless. Plus, Margaret's garden provides a beautiful view.
