Four Bedroom Beach On Private Lane Across From Beach. Walk To Everything

This is the consummate beach house in location and design, inside and out. Although the address is on Avila Beach dr., it is accessed from the private Beach Colony lane. This unique and spacious home sleeps ten and more very comfortably. On the main level the great room, dining area, and kitchen all open out a huge view deck for wave watching,relaxing and bbq's. The great room features a beautiful rock fireplace and 14' vaulted ceilings. The kitchen is defined by a large 8' x 4' granite island with ample seating for conversation and informal snacking. This combination of spaces allows everyone to belly-up, kick back, watch the beach, bbq, hob-nob and share the day's adventures while watching the cooks prepare surf and turf. Off of the kitchen are a huge well-stocked pantry and spacious laundry room.

While the main level encourages gatherings and fun, there are two more decks facing the ocean. A small one off of the master bedroom and an 18' x 14' roof deck complete with mini kitchen. The roof deck is perfect for sunset margaritas or a chilled glass of chardonnay from the fridge while you bbq spicy local sausages and k-bobs. The roof deck is accessed by a user-friendly interior stairway. Up top the view is avila panoramic.

The master bedroom features a granite bath and walk-in shower, windows with views of the ocean, a king bed and large walk in closet. The other two upstairs bedrooms each have window seats from which you can look out over the golf course across the street, and all of the upstairs rooms are vaulted and spacious. One of the upper bedrooms features a queen bed and the other a bunk bed and separate single for the kids. Every window offers views of classic avila: the surrounding hills, the distant hotel, the homes above the beach, and the beach side shops and restaurants.

The downstairs bedroom opens out to a small patio and the green beauty of the golf links across the street.

Although the bathroom openings are not wheel chair accessible width, there are stair lifts from the garage to the main level and from the main level to the second floor.

The two car garage below is large enough to easily hold two vehicles and there is room for two more vehicles onsite just off of beach colony lane. There is an outdoor shower to rinse the salt water and sand from body and wet suits. You can pack the wagon with folding chairs, ice chest, blankets, boogie boards and umbrella for the short stroll to the sand. There is a variety of beach toys from which to choose as well. If you get to beach and forgot your camera the walk back to the house takes all of three minutes. The terminus for the avila trolley which runs to shell beach and back is just out the front door, and the bob jones bike trail starts just across the street and runs to slo, shell, and the five cities. You can literally walk across the street and bike to rural wineries and city shops and restaurants.

About John Day

We moved to Cayucos a number of years back from a Colorado ski town. It took a long time for us to realize that the coastal maritime climate brings fog and wind and temperatures that are usually a little cool. Since it never snowed and the temperature hardly ever went down into the 40's, we were happy. Sometime later we moved to San Luis for the school system, and discovered it's particular inland climate. Not much fog and consistently warm sunny days. We liked the beach, but not so much the fog. We thought that you can't have one without the other. Then we happened upon Avila. A couple of years ago we bought this lot to build and sell a spec home. We soon realized that Avila enjoys a San Luis-like warm and clear inland climate and it is on the water as well. We still live in San Luis, but we think more and more these days of living in Avila.

You don't find a lot of homes like this one, so close to the water in the best little gem of a beach town between LA and San Francisco. We thought we'd better try to hang on to it.

An excellent example of beach house architecture. It is unique from any angle inside and out. It literally has something for everyone no matter who comes along. Large comfortable gathering spaces with big screens to watch the game. Large decks to relax and enjoy the sun and sunset. Enjoy the latest concert across the street at the event center from the roof deck while you bbq.

Absolutely wonderful!

We loved this home and it is very spacious! The beach is very close, and the golf course where the wedding was is right across the street.

I think the only draw back is the noise from the cars racing by on the street, but if you keep the windows closed, you are fine!

We would rent this house again!

What's not to love?!

The house was beautiful and big. Plenty of rooms and space for people to relax and enjoy the beach life. Because the house is on the main road, there were car noises during the day. But at night, it's pretty quiet. The owners thought of everything, for everyone. Very ideal and convenient for a big gathering. All the rooms had plenty of ventilation and lighting.

Lovely Beach House

Beautiful house! We were celebrating my grandmas 81st birthday and couldn’t have picked a better place. Chairlifts were greatly appricated. The wagon, beach chairs and toys were loved by the kids and ever so handy. We had a lovely vacation and can’t wait to return.

Beautiful House - Great Location - Amazing Trip

With having 4 families within 1 immediate family, finding a house to accommodate our sleeping needs was a challenge. This house fits those needs to a T! We had one minor issue (that was weather caused) but John took care of it while we were at the beach. This place has the most amazing location, just a few minute walk to the beach. The roof deck has incredible views. Our family has 11 family members and it was a fear that we would be piled on top of each other, but that was not the case- we all had room to roam. Parking was a concern for us before we arrived, since 3 of us drove from Portland in full-size vehicles and the 4th had rented a smaller SUV, but we were all able to park on the premises, which was GREAT! The house itself is BEAUTIFUL!! We would definitely consider staying here again if given the opportunity.

Avila beach is a great base from which to explore and enjoy a host of different experiences unique to the central coast communities.

In avila we have a lot to offer sports-persons of every level of every interest. On one hand just out the door we have the pacific ocean: surfing and wave sports, surf casting and deep water fishing, whale watching, sailing and jet skis and jets skis and paddle boarding, and kayaking. And beach sports like reading and paddle ball and shelling, volleyball, and walking, and watching the kids chase sea gulls.

Turning to inland pursuits, if you are a cycling enthusiast you can leave your car in the garage and bike to shell and pismo beachs, edna valley wineries, downtown san luis obispo. There are bike lanes out to los osos and morro bay as well.

There are basketball courts in the park, and hiking trails leading up into the hills and along the coast. You can run or bike from avila as long as you want and find good scenery and interesting trails and roads.

  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
