Did not expect a detached house with private garden!
We truly lived like the locals in Amboise, shopping at the major market, preparing meals and eating the wonderful garden, filled with flowers as well as vegetables. The spiral staircase was tough, but having a half bath downstairs made it ok. The location was walking distance to everything we came to see. July is the perfect time to visit as the flowers are at their peak.Martine is a wonderful hostess who made us feel at home in her home.
Merci à vous!.....
This is a wonderful, 'character rich' property ideally located in the town of Amboise.
Upon our arrival, our host made us feel very welcome to her own home, which, by the way, she resides in when it's not rented!
The property is very well equipped, especially the modern kitchen, which we took full advantage of since my wife loves to cook.
The decor was charming, replete with antique furnishings and decor, bookcases full of books and CD's and interesting nic-nacs everywhere. A huge vase with sunflowers, mirrors and lovely framed paintings & pictures on the walls, plus the tight wooden spiral stairs up to the bedrooms and bathroom completed the warm and inviting ambiance, making you want to sit down with a glass of cognac or calvados and linger, taking it all in. The toilet downstairs was very convenient for us.
The garden out back is full of flowers and even has a herb patch with rosemary, thyme, sage, bay leaf and others I can't remember. As well a nice sit down area with a wrought iron 'bistro' table and chairs.
Its walking proximity to the main shopping area and ample restaurants was a bonus. Narrow one-way streets abound in Amboise, as in many small villages in France, so caution is the norm here.
We are from western Canada where accommodations such as this property just don't exist, so we may be a little biased in our rating.
But we loved our stay and would definitely consider returning if we choose to revisit the 'Loire' region again.
Thanks a lot Linda!.....
Thank you very much Linda. It was a pleasure to know you and to entrust my house to you. I hope to see you again in Touraine. Good continuation
What a location
This property could not be better placed. Loads of free parking right outside your front door, and a peaceful back garden where you could relax and eat your meals, and within a 100 mtrs you are in the village centre with its bars, restaurants and shops.
The house is quirky with lots of original features, lovely and cool when you step in from the heat of the day. Ideal for two but with only one bathroom might be a bit “cosy” for a family.
Martine was lovely and showed us around her home and made us feel very welcome.
Amboise has a great feel about it, with the chateau right in the heart of the village, and the Loire running alongside it, there was a huge farmers market on Sunday and lots to see and do in the area.
We will definitely be returning.
Tank you!....it was very pleasant to meet you!.....
Perfect location, easy walking distance of all facilities and attractions. Met by Martine the owner who showed us around the property including the house and garden, which are lovely and very comfortable. The photographs are a taster, the real thing is far better. Would/will be happy to stay again. Thank you Martine.
A real pleasure to have met John at Sarah who are charming and take care of your home as if it were theirs ...... Thank you! ....
Amboise Pied a Terre
Lovely house in great location. Only downside was length of the bed for my husband who is over 6 feet tall. Otherwise what a lovely home from home. I personally only like cotton sheets so will bring my own next time. Everything you need to make some great meals and a beautiful garden. Easy parking outside the house or just in the square.
Bonne position avec ambiance classique.
Really good position - easy walk to the centre of Amboise, chateau and Clos Lucé, good restaurants nearby (L'Alliance opposite especially). Free parking outside in the Place. Small supermarket on main road by the river.
Facilities in the house were good, but small kitchen, and stairs could be difficult for very young or very old. Dark interior downstairs, but it does keep it cool in the hot weather.
Very clean, nicely furnished, wonderful little garden with comfortable furniture, barbecue, sunshade etc.
Owners were charming and a welcoming bottle of Vouvray was very nice.
My only suggestion would be an information book with details of supermarkets, boulangerie, tourist office, doctor etc.
A really nice place to stay which I would recommend to friends.
Information book is a good suggestion!
Thanks a lot!
