Overview

About the property

Located along Deep Creek Drive in McHenry, where the activities are located.

A true four season mountain lake vacation home. Cedarstone turns into a Ski Lodge in the Winter. Enjoy watching skiers come down the slopes during the day while staying warm in Cedarstone situated across the lake from Wisp resort. Wisp views of lighted trails are visible at night giving it the cozy feel by the fireplace from the 2 story livingroom. Slope views are also enjoyed while sitting outside in the hot tub, staying warm while the snowflakes fall beside you. Ice fishing is also popular in Winter. Spring brings normal fishing season with waterfalls flowing beautifully from the melting snow. Swallow Falls is nearby and Black Water Falls is also a popular choice. Don't forget the freshly made Maple Syrup and maple candy. The Yough River has peak natural White Water Rafting and Wisp has man made White Water Rafting which held the World Championships in 2014. The Summer brings boating and family gathering memories. Cedarstone is located beside Smileys with mini golf, go-carts, laser-tag, water-gun boats, and an arcade without busy roads to cross for young teens returning throughout the day. Just walk across the parking lot without the aggravation to get in your vehicle and drive them there. Black Bear bar/restaurant and Pine Lodge Restaurant are in the same plaza and easily walkable. Two Boat rental areas are just down the street about a mile in either direction on Deep Creek Drive. Garrett County is ranked #2 for Autumn foliage according to Travel and Leisure Magazine.

Don't miss the opportunity. It is more than just the color of leaves. It is the smell of Autumn and sound of the leaves you hear when walking through them on many of the hiking trails along streams at the State Parks. Don't miss the freshly made hot apple cider while enjoying hayrides.

Steps away from Deep Creek Lake and 2 miles to Wisp Resort, Cedarstone is the Luxury Mountain Chalet you expect when you go to the modern upscale Deep Creek Lake with the rustic charm decor you prefer in 'Old Deep Creek.' It is truly a different world, otherwise known as Maryland's Best Kept Secret (2 hours from 3 major cities.) Perfect for a mini vacation weekend getaway or a week long stay with the family. The family can just walk over to the entertainment next door in McHenry when someone feels that 'need' to get away.

5 beds and 4 1/2 baths. The main floor master bedroom has a king size bed with private bath. The upstairs left bedroom is a queen size with private bath, the upstairs right bedroom has 2 twin size beds with private bath. The downstairs fishing pole bedroom has a queen bed with shared bath, the downstairs bunk bed room has a full bed with top single bunk and shared bath. The downstairs bedrooms feel more like a suite. It has a family room with a gas fireplace and can easily walk out to the hot tub which was newly installed 6/2014 and seats 7. Cedarstone was a newly started rental in January, 2014 Tongue and groove wood ceilings in all of the second and third floors. The upstairs two-story great room has a wood burning fireplace with granite counters and stainless steel appliances with views of McHenry Cove. The home does not have a small indoor pool but is located only 1-2 miles away from a large newly built double indoor pool (one is heated) located at Garrett Community College, which also has a weight/exercise gym and indoor basketball courts for use on those rainy days. There is a nice sitting area with large windows for the older folks who just want to watch the kids swim. I like it because the pools are newly built, lifeguards are on duty and the Wisp ski slopes are visible from the pool area.

Cedarstone is owned by 40 year past residents of Garrett County and we are available for any questions regarding the area and surrounding areas. We hope you take the time to visit the area, even if it is not with us.

About Sheila Richter

We both grew up in Garrett County and loved all four seasons at the at the lake as a young couple. We have moved away a few years ago due to need for work, but still have all of our family in the area. We wanted a place to stay when we came home to visit our families.

Sheila Richter purchased this house in 2013

Why Sheila Richter chose Deep Creek Lake

We choose this house because it had everything that you want when you come to Deep Creek. First it is a beautiful newer log home with lake access decorated with rustic items that are reminiscent of mountain lake living. It is in McHenry Cove at the north end of the lake where all the action is.

What makes this house unique

Restaurants, bars and a kids play land with arcade and go carts are all within walking distance. The lake is across the road. Located across the cove from the Wisp, you get lake views in the summer as well as ski slope views in the winter. Wisp resort is about a mile or two away, literally a 2 min drive. That is what makes this location so incredible, it is truly a 4 season vacation home.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful. It's very close to the lake and it's a great view from the deck. The house was conveniently right next to the race track and arcade. Which worked out so well with the kids, they loved it. The house had everything we needed, it's beautifully furnished. The owners are really nice people we had a small issue we got resolved. We really enjoyed our stay. We recommend visiting this vacation home.

Wonderful family vacation at the Lake!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great family vacation. The house was as described and pictured. Very clean (honestly impeccable).

Sheila was wonderful with communication and giving us details of what to do around the area and even answering last minute questions during the trip.

Loved the house. Wonderful view of the lake, lots and LOTS of lights everywhere. You could have mood lighting all the way to spot lights kind of lights all over the house. There were new DVD's to enjoy downstairs like Zootopia, Pirates of the Caribbean movies, etc.

Just a short walk down the hill and across a small street to the neighborhood lake access. We rented a boat for the day and we were allowed to dock it at the lake access for lunch time. (If you plan on renting a boat for overnight you should ask Sheila about where to dock it)

Wonderful time tubing at the lake and stand-up paddling (rentals available at multiple outfitters around town).

There were many things to do just around the area like go-carting which was a hit with the kids. this one is walking distance from the house.

Also, the county fair was going on during our stay which was a lot of fun.

We went to Swallow Falls State Park about 20 minute's drive fro the house for some hiking (with amazing waterfalls!) and a bit of fishing. There was also a lake near that park for fishing.

We ran out of time so didn't get to enjoy the hot tub downstairs which looked good, and didn't get to check out the golf courses at the nearby Wisp resort and the man-made white water rafting course at Wisp. We will have to do these next time.

And just because I think review that have no negative things to say feels not as authentic the only things I have are:

1. The couches in the house could use an upgrade. Just wear and tear looks like.

2. One couldn't comfortably take a morning stroll just out of the house (without driving somewhere with a trail) because the street in front of the house is two lane with no pedestrian walkway so people are jogging and walking but is a bit dangerous.

3. There is a fire pit near the lake access which we can use, but it didn't feel that private. Our family has a tradition of making smores and singing by the fire but we didn't really get to do that because it felt like we would be disturbing the houses right next to the fire pit.

Staying here was a wonderful experience!

Owner's Response: A 5 star review, but I justed wanted to respond. A new leather sofa and loveseat has been placed downstairs. We were unable to replace during peak rental season for delivery purposes. Deep Creek Drive was repaved in the Fall of 2016 and is popular biking and jogging area because it is located along the lake in McHenry Cove with a few restaurants and bars to stop at along the way. The speed limit is 25-30 mph. It does not have a lot of traffic because the main road is 219. It is a 2 mile walk to the Wisp if interested in walking somewhere without driving. Most people are just glad someone started the fire at the community firepit located a few feet from the water. We don't like to keep it next to the home due to smoke and safety reasons.

Couldn't ask for more!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just returned a few days ago from our week-long stay at Cedarstone - what a great vacation! The house was everything it was promised to be. Sheila was very accommodating and made the rental experience a breeze. This was our first time at Deep Creek and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Great town, great lake, great house! We will definitely be back!

Great location

  • 5 of 5

We hosted a "mini reunion"/celebration with friends and their spouses from high school. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here which was nice to have (5) bedrooms that accommodated all (5) couples and our vehicles. It was just a short walk to the Lake (across the road) and in the center of everything at Deep Creek. Sheila was fantastic to work with and even helped us by mailing back some forgotten items that we left behind. Thanks for making this a great experience!
