Photography is my passion and business. I am a resident of Bradenton, Florida now for over 30 years. I remember stepping into the crystal clear waters of the Gulf and exclaiming that I could see my feet! That was all it took, I was hooked and never looked back. My wife and I are engaged in the visual arts. The area has a supportive arts community where we can show and sell our work. We look forward to sharing our unique home on the island with its gulf breezes and relaxing lifestyle.
Diederik Tamson + Polly Johnson purchased this house in 1996
This property is now two generations in the family. The furnishings are unique and one of a kind. This is not your typical florida condo. The name is that of my grandmother, Wilhelmina who preferred to go by Minnie. Some of the objects and furnishings are hers. Some of the artwork that hangs on the wall was created by Elsie Tamson a lifelong artist working primarily as an illustrator. Her designs can be seen hanging in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Holmes beach where she was a member for many years. Some of her illustrations are still hanging in the house.
Proximity is everything. The house is uniquely located between the two bridges and a three minute walk to the Gulf giving you the ability to get quickly to all island and in town amenities. The house itself is open and airy much like a new orleans shotgun layout. The kitchen is open to the dining table making entertaining easy and sociable. The location is off the main drag making the street a popular route for walkers and biking. Sitting on the front porch with your morning coffee is quite entertaining. The home maintains a cozy lived in charm that will at once make you feel at home. Although the yard is all shell there are trees that stay green year-round surrounding the
home. The island has a variety of non-conventional transportation modes within a few steps from the house. From bike rentals, scooters to a free trolley and restaurant short buses.
My wife and I recently stayed at grandmaminnies for 10 days . It was all you could ask for in a house. The house was very clean and unique . The appliances were newer , beds were comfortable, washer and dryer were a bonus.
Plenty of clean linens. If you like to cook it was all there. Everything was close by, food, trolly, and BEACH ! Outside was landscaped simple and felt like your own world. Very peaceful and nice neighbors. The screened front porch is a great place for cocktails and relaxing. The location allowed you to axcess the island from both bridges without driving to far. Everything on one story made it easy to get around. This is truly a home away from home ! I don't think you can find a better pair of owners that are literally a phone call away ! We will go back again !
My wife fell in love with the place as soon as we arrived. Everything we could possibly need was provided, linens ,cooking materials ,washer ,dryer, beach chairs ect... The beds were very compfortable and friends that we had visit while were were there were very impressed with the place. It was very easy to relax, was centrally located on the island and information was provided on attractions in the area. We liked it so much we plan on returning again next year, this rental will not be a secret for long !
Arriving from the hustle and bustle of the grey metropitian northeast the moment I entered the house and put my bag down I immediately began to relax and unwind. The house is light and airy with mix of lovely antiques and comfy furniture. When I cooked in I easily found everything I needed. The bedroom and bath linens were of good quality , having the washer and dryer on the premise was a bonus. I especially liked the French style doors that lead out to a tropical courtyard from the master bedroom. They have screens , so at night I could hear the palm fronds rustle in the evening breeze . Because of the mature trees, shrubs and flowers inside the privacy fence the courtyard was like an oasis , perfect for morning coffee. Another hi lite is the cool outside shower ! LOVED the front screened porch . The furniture is a bit older but still very serviceable. I spent a good deal of time reading out there and it was perfect for evening cocktails when friends dropped by.
Besides being one block from the Gulf , the house is located an easy bike / trolly ride from the action south on Bridge St. as well as the shops and restaurants on the north end of Anna Maria. I highly recommend the Blue Marlin as well as the Waterfront and of course Euphemia Haye on Longboat Key . Always enjoy breakfast @ Manatee Public beach , especially before a bike ride to Robinson's Preserve to see Ospreys and Bald Eagles.
I love AMI and am so happy to have found this GEM of a house ... It's overall " vibe" is so warm and welcoming I plan to return next year !
Walking or biking through Robinson's Preserve. Walking the beaches. A night visit to the Anna Maria city pier. A visit to Bradenton's planetarium and Manatee aquarium to see Snooty the manatee. The Ringling Museum of Art and grounds. The largest collection of Dali paintings in the US is at the Dali museum. Antique shopping throughout Bradenton and St. Pete. Local micro brews for something different. Area art shows and farmers markets on Saturday. Kayaking at Robinson's preserve and many of the local water areas. There is a free trolly for the island that stops at restaurants and grocery areas. Orlando attractions are two hours away. Tampa is one hour away and has Bush Gardens theme park.
