Roomy Light Filled 1 Bedroom Apartment With View Of Mount Tom Range
Set back from the road on a quiet street this light-filled apartment is just a little over 1 mile from Mount Holyoke College In the charming center of South Hadley and just 10 minutes to Amherst and 15 minutes Northampton. Dine at home in your fully stocked eat-in kitchen with stainless fridge, dine outside in your own quiet yard, or stroll into town to one of the 6 restaurants. Beautifully tiled full bath. Good sized bedroom with large bureau -- plenty of drawer space for two. The large living room has lots of comfy seating making it a warm and inviting place to come home to.
Relax in front of the over-sized picture window and take in the view of the mountains in your large living room with fireplace.
This ground floor apartment with full bath easily sleeps 4 people. The bedroom features a comfortable queen-sized bed. Living room futon couch converts to a bed for two additional guests.
Turned off by a futon? Don't be because this is most definitely not the rock hard futon of yesteryear. Instead it’s an exceptionally comfortable, high-end mattress which i would use as my primary bed in a heartbeat
If you grow tired of dining at one of the 9 restaurants, cafes, and taverns that make up the South Hadley village commons a mere mile up the road, you can stay in and enjoy your full eat-in kitchen. There are a few parts of the kitchen where the ceiling is lower so if you're 6 feet tall or more, you may need to duck your head. But worth it to be able to cook in your fully stocked kitchen.
The yard just outside your door is yours to enjoy . Sit back and listen to the birds as you enjoy your morning coffee or sip a glass of wine as you watch the magnificent sunsets over the mountain range.
Cable TV and wireless connection
Bit of trivia. The first tenant to occupy the apartment in 1949 was Mount Holyoke college professor Dr. Grace Bates. It was the same year that bates became one of the first women in the united states to earn a PhD in math.
Interaction with guests
The entire apartment is yours to use so you can have all the privacy you need or want. If it's helpful, i'm a life-long resident of western massachusetts so if you like i'm happy to point you to fabulous restaurants, the local art and theater scene, or just the best places to walk, hike, or take a scenic drive.
This is a quiet street of lovely residential homes, many owned by mount holyoke faculty and administrators.
Getting around is super easy. If you want to drive, it's 15 minutes (tops) to amherst or the hadley malls where there's a whole foods, trader joes, and four other grocery stores. There's another major grocery store 10 minutes south.
Northampton with its abundance of restaurants and shops is also a scenic 15 minute drive away.
There's also free bus service between mount holyoke (1 mile from the apartment) and amherst and northampton. umass transit for schedules between mount holyoke, amherst, umass, and smith (northampton). The bus goes other places as well but you need to get to umass to transfer.

Convenient and Good Area
Stayed here for about 6 weeks week during a travel work assignment with my dog. Was clean and well stocked and convenient to many things in the area as well as in a safe area to enjoy walking/running from the house. 4 stars only because for a longer stay washer and dryer would have been nice but there was a laundromat nearby that was good. The owner was even helpful in letting my dog out on long work days.
Truly brought the term “homeaway” to life!
I could go on for days about how wonderful this homeaway was. Valerie was an incredible hostess and provided us with everything we needed and more! Pots, pans, plates, silverware of all kinds, coffee mugs, wine glasses and even chilled beer mugs awaited our arrival! Not to mention any small kitchen appliance you could think of. She really knows what is needed when you’re away. She provided better for us than we did ourselves! She also welcomed our dog along the trip and provided extras to make sure he was just as cozy as we were. The quaint apartment was perfect for a couple and a dog but would have been just as comfortable for a family of 4. The futon is huge and could easily sleep two children. Note: it is easier to unfold and refold than you think! Check the track underneath before you move it so there isn’t any confusion (I say from experience). Though this is a shared space, I hardly heard a sound from Valerie. She is incredibly careful to go undetected. I’d hoped to run into her in passing to introduce myself but didn’t see her until the 3rd day. However, she was moments away via message at all times. I don’t think I waited more than 5 minutes for a response since our first contact! She was very careful to give us our privacy but was always ready to assist as needed. We were only on a short stay and wanted to squeeze a trip to Salem in. She was kind enough to check on our dog and take him out for us even though she knew he wouldn’t potty on the leash. She just wanted him to get outside so he wouldn’t be stuck in all day while we were gone. Talk about thoughtful! Valerie gets an A+++ in my book! We visited in October and thought it was chilly outside, her new heating system kept us nice and toasty during our stay. The view from our windows was also SPECTACULAR! The field in the back in the perfect picnic spot and great for a well behaved dog to wander. BONUS - the college town is perfect for getting out. Lots of little shops and awesome restaurants (great pizza close by). Plus a nearby laundromat if you’re on an extended stay. Overall we had a wonderful, wonderful trip. Thank you so much for your hospitality, Valerie! I would definitely recommend this property to anyone!!
Come back anytime!
I booked this basement apartment for two months this past summer and was very happy to find great accommodations for myself and my dog while visiting with family in the Pioneer Valley and assessing the area for possible relocation. The apartment is very bright, clean, comfortable and well stocked with the amenities one would expect for an extended stay. We enjoyed daily walks along quiet country roads and the big field behind the apartment was a real treat for my dog to roam and explore safely. South Hadley was a great location for us central to family, hiking trails, shopping, museums, good restaurants and coffee shops. The owner is a gracious hostess and does her best to accommodate guest needs while still respecting their privacy. I would not hesitate to book this apartment in the future.
It was a pleasure hosting Diane!
All the comforts of home
My husband and I just finished our one month stay with Valerie at her beautiful spot in South Hadley. What a great place to land while we searched for housing. It is an ideal location for exploring the Pioneer Valley, close enough to South Hadley to walk to town, and oh, what a view from her backyard! Valerie was a wonderful host - kind, helpful, and quick to respond to any questions that arose. Highly recommend.
A Comfortable, Relaxing, and Well-Equipped Home!
My husband, our dog, and I had a wonderful stay at Valerie's. Valerie anticipates your needs and provides for them, she even supplied dog bowls and a couple of welcome treats for our little dog. We stayed for 6 weeks while we were relocating to this area, and Valerie made sure we were warm enough by supplying extra heaters (we had lived in Puerto Rico for the last 8 years and it was thoughtful that Valerie wanted to be sure we were warm enough as the temperatures began to drop). She is quick to respond to questions pre- and during one's visit without being intrusive. The space is clean and the kitchen is well-equipped, Wi-Fi and cable worked well, and there is a space for parking your car in her driveway. One can easily walk into town where there are a few restaurants (we enjoyed Yarde Tavern in South Hadley and The Alvah Stone in Montague) and a movie theater (Valerie has left a detailed binder in the apartment of things to do & where to eat -- the area is teeming with fun and interesting things). The apartment is centrally located to the Amherst and Springfield areas. Valerie's place was a welcomed and quiet area in which we were able to transition easily to our new home. We will recommend Valerie's place to anyone needing accommodations in western MA. Thanks for everything, Valerie!!
Peaceful location that allows for easy access to the areas , activities surrounding the town.
The space was relaxing and enjoyable for both humans and dogs. The back field allowed us to walk the dogs without any worries. We were provided with everyone we needed and the owner was extremely accommodating and accessible.
The 5 College Area is teaming with restaurants, theaters, music, museums, and great hiking. And a little over 1 mile from the apartment are a total of 5 restaurants and 2 movie theaters. Northampton and Amherst are both an easy 15 minutes drive.
