About the property

Roomy Light Filled 1 Bedroom Apartment With View Of Mount Tom

Set back from the road on a quiet street this light-filled apartment is just a little over 1 mile from Mount Holyoke College In the charming center of South Hadley. Dine at home in your fully stocked eat-in kitchen with stainless fridge, dine outside in your own quiet yard, or stroll into town to one of the 6 restaurants. Beautifully tiled full bath. Good sized bedroom with large bureau -- plenty of drawer space for two. The large living room has lots of comfy seating making it a warm and inviting place to come home to.

Relax in front of the over-sized picture window and take in the view of the mountains in your large living room with fireplace.

This ground floor apartment with full bath easily sleeps 4 people. The bedroom features a comfortable queen-sized bed. Living room futon couch converts to a bed for two additional guests.

Turned off by a futon? Don't be because this is most definitely not the rock hard futon of yesteryear. Instead it’s an exceptionally comfortable, high-end mattress which i would use as my primary bed in a heartbeat

If you grow tired of dining at one of the 9 restaurants, cafes, and taverns that make up the South Hadley village commons a mere mile up the road, you can stay in and enjoy your full eat-in kitchen. There are a few parts of the kitchen where the ceiling is lower so if you're 6 feet tall or more, you may need to duck your head. But worth it to be able to cook in your fully stocked kitchen.

The yard just outside your door is yours to enjoy . Sit back and listen to the birds as you enjoy your morning coffee or sip a glass of wine as you watch the magnificent sunsets over the mountain range.

Cable TV and wireless connection

Bit of trivia. The first tenant to occupy the apartment in 1949 was Mount Holyoke college professor Dr. Grace Bates. It was the same year that bates became one of the first women in the united states to earn a PhD in math.

Interaction with guests

The entire apartment is yours to use so you can have all the privacy you need or want. If it's helpful, i'm a life-long resident of western massachusetts so if you like i'm happy to point you to fabulous restaurants, the local art and theater scene, or just the best places to walk, hike, or take a scenic drive.

The neighborhood

This is a quiet street of lovely residential homes, many owned by mount holyoke faculty and administrators.

Getting around

Getting around is super easy. If you want to drive, it's 15 minutes (tops) to amherst or the hadley malls where there's a whole foods, trader joes, and four other grocery stores. There's another major grocery store 10 minutes south.

Northampton with its abundance of restaurants and shops is also a scenic 15 minute drive away.

There's also free bus service between mount holyoke (1 mile from the apartment) and amherst and northampton. umass transit for schedules between mount holyoke, amherst, umass, and smith (northampton). The bus goes other places as well but you need to get to umass to transfer.

A Comfortable, Relaxing, and Well-Equipped Home!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, our dog, and I had a wonderful stay at Valerie's. Valerie anticipates your needs and provides for them, she even supplied dog bowls and a couple of welcome treats for our little dog. We stayed for 6 weeks while we were relocating to this area, and Valerie made sure we were warm enough by supplying extra heaters (we had lived in Puerto Rico for the last 8 years and it was thoughtful that Valerie wanted to be sure we were warm enough as the temperatures began to drop). She is quick to respond to questions pre- and during one's visit without being intrusive. The space is clean and the kitchen is well-equipped, Wi-Fi and cable worked well, and there is a space for parking your car in her driveway. One can easily walk into town where there are a few restaurants (we enjoyed Yarde Tavern in South Hadley and The Alvah Stone in Montague) and a movie theater (Valerie has left a detailed binder in the apartment of things to do & where to eat -- the area is teeming with fun and interesting things). The apartment is centrally located to the Amherst and Springfield areas. Valerie's place was a welcomed and quiet area in which we were able to transition easily to our new home. We will recommend Valerie's place to anyone needing accommodations in western MA. Thanks for everything, Valerie!!

Peaceful location that allows for easy access to the areas , activities surrounding the town.

The space was relaxing and enjoyable for both humans and dogs. The back field allowed us to walk the dogs without any worries. We were provided with everyone we needed and the owner was extremely accommodating and accessible.

Great apartment

  • 5 of 5

This dog friendly apartment was perfect for our needs while we attended a family wedding in the area. We wanted to travel with our Labrador and it made a good base for our weekend. The apartment was well stocked with amenities such as nice fluffy towels, shampoo and soap, hair dryer, starter paper products (paper towels, toilet paper etc), and coffee. It was absolutely spotlessly clean. The furniture was comfortable, it was decorated really nicely as well with plently of seating and even a writing desk. There was ample storage for clothing etc- closet space as well as a large dresser in the bedroom. It is located in the walkout basement of a one story house along a quiet country road (which afforded us easy options to walk our dog). The way the house is situated on its sloping towards the back of the house lot, it does not feel like it is a basement. It has a very large window and a full glass door in the extremely cozy living room which makes the room very bright. Because it is in a beautifully converted basement, it was nicely cool when we arrived (but because it is in the basement level that's been converted, the ceiling is a bit low in various spots in the apartment). Valerie did install 2 window air conditioners while we were there. Valerie was so easy to work with- responded quickly to emails while we were booking, gave us good suggestions for where to find lunch etc. We would try and stay there again if we find ourselves back in the S. Hadley area. It is not luxurious or fancy but it doesn't need to be nor does it advertise itself as such. When you arrive at the address, don't be put of by the fact that it just looks like someones house- the apartment is private with its own entrance etc. The only (very minor!) suggestion I would have is to have more pillows for sleeping available. A great stay!

Convenient place for college graduation stay

  • 4 of 5

We were a party of three in town for a long weekend for UMass graduation. This was a good location for us - not right in Amherst, so away from the crowds, but close enough to get to campus for events. It's a quiet residential neighborhood, nice views from the apartment. Owner lives upstairs and seems nice and easy to deal with re: reservations, etc, though we didn't have much contact with her on-site. There were restaurants and services within a short drive. The apartment was clean, pleasant, and well-equipped for our needs. The bedroom was nice, and my son slept on the futon and found it comfortable. The only drawback is that because it's a basement apartment, the ceiling in parts of the kitchen is quite low (air ducts). My tall husband and sons (6' and up) had to be careful not to bump their heads. But, otherwise no complaints. I would recommend it if you're looking for something in a residential area.

Overall this is a great property and it met our needs. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the lack of a washer/dryer for our use and separate heat/air for the unit. It is my understanding that the owner has plans to solve both of those items and even if she does not, I would happily stay there again. We were helping move our son and his family to Massachusetts from Arkansas and their new place was not quite big enough for us. We stayed a week which is why a washer/dryer would have been nice to have. This basement apartment was close enough to visit family daily yet provide us a nice quiet place to come to in the evenings. The kitchen was well stocked. There is not a dishwasher but for only two people hand washing a few dishes was fine. The open living/dining area is very warm and inviting. The bed was very comfortable. We will consider this again for our next visit to the area.

Beautiful view and wonderful location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I came to Massachusetts to visit family. We brought out 2 dogs too. There are very few properties that allow pets so we were thrilled when we saw Valerie's place available. We stayed for 2 weeks and had a wonderful visit. Very comfortable bed, plenty of room for company. Located in a beautiful residential area near town. Atkins farm is just up the road, they had wonderful bread and homemade pies......strawberry rhubarb was delicious! Great location close to Amherst and Northampton. Plenty of wonderful restaurants and beautiful New Enland scenery. Valerie was a wonderful hostess and tolerated our dogs very well. There is a beautiful field in back for dog walks. We will be back in the area for a family wedding and we love to would stay her again.
