We offer a minimum of 4 weeks/28 days in lovely northern New Hampshire. Come for a month or stay for up to 6 months. All amenities, utilities and creature comforts included at this mountain getaway!
Birch Hill House is a former mother-in-law, one bedroom apartment attached to the owners house. It has a handicap ramp access and walk-in shower, private entrance and deck. A spacious full kitchen with gas range has all that you’d need to create gourmet meals, as well as a dishwasher. In the living room, a gas fireplace provides a cozy ambiance and heat, or use the air conditioner for the warmer months. A gas grill is available out on the deck. With a pull-out couch with a TempurPedic mattress, this unit can comfortably accommodate up to four people.
Guests have full access to the mowed grounds (3 acres) or wooded areas. We even have a small cemetery that dates back to the early 1800's. Hike, XC ski or snowshoe out your door. We have a fire pit that we would be happy to share for a campfire experience and a screened porch if the bugs are an issue.
I sold my art gallery and picture framing business in 2007 after working there for 27 years. Currently I work at home as a landscape painter and graphic artist, digital photo restorer, and printer for other artists.
My husband, Ned, and I moved back into my mother's home (and the home I grew up in) and built an addition for her. She lived here until 2011, when she required more care in a nursing home. The vacation rental is her apartment.
We currently have 2 Pembroke Welsh Corgi dogs, a 5 yr old and a 2.5 yr old. They are very friendly and love other dogs and people. Our son and his wife have two children, who thankfully live only a couple hours away. We love being grandparents!
We grow and preserve as much of our own food as we can. Our hot water is solar heated. Recycling is mandatory in our town and at our house we compost as much waste as possible and consider ourselves living a 'earth aware' existence.
Ned works as a Mental Health Counselor, and would love to retire as soon as it's economically feasible. We are both outdoor lovers, hikers, kayakers, snowshoers, XC and downhill skiers.
I permanently use a cane due to having a tumor removed from my thigh muscle over 20 years ago, as well as having two recent hip replacements. My passion is being the woods or the garden. We feel so fortunate to live in such a beautiful area, and it inspires my painting and photography.
Sally Baldwin purchased this apartment in 2007
This is the home I grew up in. We lived in Conway, NH for 27 years, which is 35 miles south of here. We now live 'north of the notches' which is in a less developed area, and we think, a more beautiful area!
Walk out the door to hiking trails, XC or snowshoe trails. The Appalachian Trail is 2 miles away. We abut conservation land and are close to the White Mountain Nat'l Forest. Located on a quiet country road (perfect for bicycling) with not a neighbor in sight.
We loved our stay at Birch Hill House! The apartment was charming and very well-equipped. Very private and located in a beautiful area. The owner was extremely helpful - we would definitely recommend this rental and hopefully will stay here again in the future.
We had a great experience at the Birch House! We were very comfortable in our accommodations. It had all the necessities and more. Sally made us feel so at home yet also gave us privacy. Such a beautiful location...I would highly recommend this rental!
My wife and I were looking for a short, wintery trip from the normally melancholy D.C. winters. We took a quick flight from DCA to Manchester, NH, rented a car, and headed to Gorham / Shelburne. The owners were very pleasant and accomodating, but mostly just let us do our own thing, which was very appreciated. The unit is attached to the main house, but is completely private. It's a nice size for 2 urban-dwellers, with a kitchen, sofa, a couple chairs, bedroom, bathroom, and laundry area. The laundry machines and detergent was most appreciated especially after a couple days of skiing and snowshoeing at Great Glens. Rather than stay at a hotel or lodge, this would be perfect for anyone planning to visit Mt. Washington or any of the others in the Presidential Range, Gorham, Great Glen Trails, or Wildcat Mountain ski resorts. It was a very quick trip by car and no traffic to speak of. It also made for easy access to western Maine, northeastern Vermont, and the Canadian border. We would definitely stay again!
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay in Shelburne. Sally and her husband are very gracious hosts and the apartment is well outfitted with a great kitchen, a cozy living room, and a lovely bedroom. Weary after many hours of driving, we were greeted warmly by Sally and her two adorable dogs. Throughout our stay, we were delighted by the cozy apartment and Sally's attentiveness. Were it not for Sally providing us with slip-on spikes for our boots, we would not have been able to enjoy the beautiful snowy trails she recommended we explore. We're hoping to make another visit soon.
