The best I could expect. Small & Cozy
The best I could expect.
Bf & I are stayed during winter. It was a clean, cozy & open space cabin. Pet friendly which is great! The backyard is fenced in with a great deck. I love the fireplace. They also have a heater, but not enough to heat up the bedroom, the owner provided portable heater so we just let the room warm up while we hang out in the living room. The kitchen is provided with pots & pans & enough kitchenware. I recommend to bring your own blankets for the bedroom, even though they provided extra blankets I was just not comfortable using theirs (that’s just me). They also provided extra pillows but no pillow cases. 2 bath towels, so bring extra if there would be more than 2 people staying.
Updates on previous review:
- They actually put in 2 regular size wine glasses.
- We were able to open the blinds up. Great source of light from outside
- I thought the pots & pans were adequate. And yes the pullout drawer for the pots and pans does not make any sense BUT it’s as easy as reaching in as it if was a regular cabinet.
- The black futon was replaced with a different couch, which I think it’s a pull out.
- The bathroom does not have the glass sliding door anymore, it was replace w/shower curtain, which made it a little darker while showering.
- I thought the bathroom water pressure was fine.
- I checked out the extra room outside. After reading the reviews I didn’t expect much for an extra space. They provided portable heater, TV & YES it DOESN'T have a restroom so you will have to use the main bathroom by entering the bedroom or the side door of the house (I would prefer to keep the side door lock while we sleep, so bedroom would be the best access or bring the key). There’s also an old futon (not same as the picture) which it doesn’t look comfortable at all & yes a little dusty (im assuming nobody really uses the back room) it’s better to just replace it or bring your own air mattress. I don’t think it’s “NOT livable” unless you’re expecting a fancy extra room. But for the price of renting 1-bedroom cabin w/an extra back room/space & pull out couch in the living room, Can’t really complain.
Overall, I think it was a great small & cozy place for the price. The owner responded right away & she was very accommodating. I think it’s enough for 4 people, 6 if you want to utilize the back room/space. It’s close to the ski resort & grocery store. Pls make sure to pick up after your pets coz we stepped in one. TY
Cozy cabin with a few shortcomings
This was a cozy cabin. The living space was great, I enjoyed watching TV while having a fire going. I was there in the winter and the heater was adequate for the living room/kitchen/dining area (open concept). Pet friendly was really awesome for us and our dog, the backyard was fenced in completely and our pup loved running around back there in the little snow that fell. There is a light so it's usable even at night too.
Some critical feedback: The shower head was really really bad. The water pressure was very weak which made showering in the winter a little rough. The bedroom does not get heated by the heater in the living room, and instead uses a smaller space heater (no central heat). This was OK, but a little bit less than ideal. Luckily I had my partner with me which helped for warmth, but having one person in that room would have been chilly. I also would have liked a heavier comforter on the bed. It was 16 degrees at night when I was there and I had to dig for some extra blankets in one of the chests.
The kitchen had some basics, but was a little lacking. My wife and I brought some wine, but only found one small-ish wine glass. Would have liked to see a set of normal wine glasses. The cabinets have a very puzzling design with these pull out drawers to access pots and containers, but you literally cannot pull out one of the drawers because the cabinet doesn't open all the way. That was extremely puzzling work - I have no idea how that job was finished and someone thought "Yep, this is great!". There were two nice big windows in the cabin, but I couldn't get the blinds up on one of them.
Overall, a decent place. I think I would look elsewhere before coming back. With just a couple little improvements I think this place could be better.
Note: The furniture during my stay was different than pictured. There was no futon in the living room, just two couches. I also never used the bonus room in the back, but it definitely didn't look as inviting as pictured here.
Not what it's said to be
The back room is detached with no restroom which I expect from reading the info on the property. But it didn't say it was dirty and honestly non sleepable. It looked as if they left the door open and the wind blew in leaves and dirt. Not only that but the sofa bed is more like a dirty, ripped, very worn out, overly thin mattress. Also it was freezing in there during the day time, I can't imagine how cold it gets at night. Ok the restroom was pretty clean except for the fact that I had to kill a black spider in there and the toilet paper rolls had finger prints on them in what I hope wasn't feces. The room itself was pretty cold too, the heater doesn't really heat it up. The bed is only full sized and uncomfortable. The kitchen was cute and pretty clean, but the "pots and pans" are not full size pots and pans, and there's only 2 that are usable, or I should say safe to use. The couches are pretty comfortable. The sofa bed is newish and pretty comfortable. It is not the one in the picture, so that was good. Oh and we also killed a black spider that came out of the wall in that room too. The mini dinning table was ok the chairs felt like they were gonna break but they didn't so yay for that. We had a great time at Big Bear but we wanted to leave the rental after a few minutes. All in all, I think they should really change the description of the rental and should only accept families of 4 because that back room is not livable, not even for a dog. Lastly the renter was really nice when I called her to ask about my deposit.
Everything was as described
The inside of the home is very cozy and cute. The property is close to big bear village and snow summit/ bear mountain. It was only a ten minute drive. The kitchen had pots, pans, plates and cups. If going in winter I would recommend bringing your own duraflame and wood for the fire. The place overall was nice and the owners are very responsive.
Small cabin big joy
The best I could expect !)
Cute, clean, small
It was a perfect getaway for me and my boyfriend :)
