About Steve Cox

I am originally from Perú, but I am an American citizen currently living between Florida and Merida. My husband Wayne and I spent a week vacationing in the Yucatan in 2009 and bought a property at the beach in Progreso on our last day. We travel extensively, but felt immediately at home in the Yucatan, and met the most fantastic people here. We are planning to make Merida our permanent home in a couple of years, in the mid time we'd love to share our house and experiences with other adventurous travelers.

Steve Cox purchased this house in 2013

Why Steve Cox chose Merida

We were told the original owners met as children playing in the neighborhood, and after marrying built this house where they started a family and hosted great parties.

What makes this house unique

We really like the style of the house which is a mix of Art Deco and Colonial architecture .

Wonderful stay in Merida

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time renting a house during an extended vacation. It was a wonderful experience. The house was well maintained and convenient to everything we needed. We did not rent a car. We used public transportation with great ease.

Our stay was enhanced by Steve and Ruby, the management team. Their knowledge of Merida was very helpful. They advised about local markets, bus routes and popular sites we might have overlooked.

They welcomed us on our first night with a basket of fruit and visited once a week during our 50 day vacation. Any concerns were addressed immediately.

We had a great time!!! The house, people of Merida and Steve and Ruby made our time there memorable and exceptional.

Outstanding Property

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location and high quality amenities of this beautiful home in Merida. We did not cook anything but breakfast though the kitchen is about as well stocked as anything we've seen. The pool area and patio are quiet, very clean and relaxing. Photos do not do this home justice. You have to see it to believe it. Steve was very accommodating about anything we needed. Stay could not have been better. We would stay here again and recommend it highly.

Wonderful place to see a beautiful city

  • 4 of 5

This house is a beautiful house in a safe neighborhood, and is convenient to the Paseo Montejo. The two best features for us was a lovely pool and a kitchen with a professional stove. We were able to have a few friends over and cook a magnificent dinner for them with my friend who is professional chef. I couldn't recommend this place higher.

A beautiful oasis in Merida

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for the month of February. Our beautiful colonial in Garcia Gineres was everything we had hoped for.

When we arrived, we were welcomed with a huge basket of fruit and a bottle of wine.

It was our oasis in the city. Close to the Paseo de Montejo and all of the great restaurants.

We walked everywhere. Our house was very clean and was more beautiful than shown on the site.

Many thanks to our property managers, Ruby and Steve, who made us feel very welcome and treated us

like old friends. They provided us with lots of good information about things to see and do in Merida.

The house was well appointed and there were no issues with the hi-speed internet or satellite tv. The off-street

parking is a real bonus in the city.

All of our guests, who came to visit, walked through the front door and their mouths dropped open with how

beautiful the home is.

This is a really great home, in a great location. The best part was the great property managers, Ruby and Steve, and

the wonderful service they offered. Many thanks.

Fantastic Colonial Home Perfectly Located Totally Comfortable and Well Appointed

  • 5 of 5

Every Detail is perfection , the rooms all have grand High Ceilings and Traditional Pasta Tile Floors. Great Kitchen that is fully stocked with everything you could need. Enclosed Garage, Great pool and terrace area Give wide vistas of the sky but remains private and secluded. The home is large and spacious with an elegant flow.

We spent the first 2 days relaxing , unwinding, cooking at the house, fully immersed in the colonial Merida Vibe. Most city sights/shopping are in walking distance or a quick cab ride away. We were greeted and seen of my the property manager who had a wealth of information and tips on Merida and the surrounding area. If you are planning a trip to Merida this is the way to go.

A beautiful way to see Merida!

  • 5 of 5

My spouse and two adult sons spent a fantastic four days in this home in Merida. The home was perfectly appointed for our family. Its three bedrooms each had a private bathroom and separate entrance onto the courtyard. The courtyard included a covered lounge area, barbecue area and sundeck/splash pool and was perfect for everything from reading to happy hour to evening conversation. But it was the kitchen, with its professional range, largely windows and copper pots that made the house for us. The home was a delightful place to prepare and enjoy family meals.

The home is located just outside of the historic district to the north. The restaurants and shops on Paseo Montejo as well as the grocery store (Walmart) are very convenient and the central square is an easy walk. However, if you enjoy the local markets as we do, the house is a little north.

The home's caretakers, Steve and Ruby couldn't have been more accommodating. They were very flexible on check in/check out times, quickly responded where we had questions or the house needed something and had great ideas of things to see and do, including a local slow food market. Overall, the property was clean and very well maintained, and had amenities like the garage and grill area that aren't common. This was our second visit to Merida and we loved it; we will definitely consider renting here again.
