About the property

5 Bedroom, 5 Bath with amazing pool and outdoor living area!

Hill Country luxury in the heart of town. Relaxation, comfort and amenities - when you stay at the H.W. Bush House you will come home to an inviting space that you and your guests will love at first sight. From the vaulted, cedar beamed ceilings as you walk through the front door to the travertine floor found throughout, the home's flowing floor-plan and attention to detail will set the stage for a memorable stay. As you move to the rear of the H.W. Bush House you will pass through a beautiful gourmet kitchen with custom kitchen cabinets and granite top eating bar. High-end stainless steel appliances, recessed lighting and beautiful tile backsplash complete the atmosphere. The flowing design continues as the kitchen opens into the adjacent media room with 60 inch television and surround sound, perfect for gameday viewing or a quiet movie night. Double french doors lead to the outdoor living area with its beautiful stone fireplace and 65 inch outdoor television mounted above the mantle. The television swivels for viewing by guests while splashing in the salt-water pool or soaking in the adjacent heated spa and the tv can be swiveled back for viewing while barbecuing in the outdoor kitchen. Once you are ready, take an invigorating dip in the large pool nestled among the mature oak trees of your secluded garden oasis. How to top the perfect evening off? With a soak in the hot tub, ice-cold beverage in hand, and your favorite tunes on the stereo as you enjoy the conclusion of another day in your slice of paradise!

Sleeping accommodations at the H.W. Bush House are equally well thought out and designed with our guests comfort and convenience in mind. With 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms the home can accommodate up to a maximum of 12 guests overnight. Four of the five bedrooms are suites with attached private baths, the fifth bedroom features two sets of bunkbeds that will accommodate up to eight younger guests. The bath for the bunkroom is across the hall and is also the bath that serves the common areas of the home. All bedrooms feature wall mounted 42 inch televisions and individual climate controls, so set the thermostat to whatever is comfortable to you personally in your individual suite. The Bush House also features luxurious high-thread count all cotton bedding. At the front of the house a bedroom suite with enhanced accessibility has been ideally located for guests who might need a little more space for a chair or walker in either the bedroom or bathroom. The rear most suite, which is almost everyone's favorite, features a set of french doors that open onto the outdoor living area and pool - what's not to love about morning coffee waiting for you poolside just outside your door?

About Walter Cox

Class of '91. Walt is a former Merchant Marine Officer and marine scientist. Raised in Texas, Walt lived in Alaska for several years while working in the marine sciences before returning to College Station in 2003. He and his daughter live in south College Station and are passionate fans of both the Fightin' Texas Aggies and girl's fastpitch softball! On weekends, they are likely to be found somewhere on the red dirt of a central Texas softball field.

Walter Cox purchased this house in 1981

Why Walter Cox chose Redmond Terrace

Our family history includes a long-standing connection with Texas A&M University. Our family matriarch, my mom, received her doctorate from A&M in the early 1980's as a single mother raising three kids. That she managed all of that amazes me to this day!

My brother, sister and I all attended Texas A&M in due time - with my brother and I both receiving our bachelors degrees there. My sister, the black sheep of the family, transferred after her sophomore year and received her bachelors degree from UT before going on to Berkley and the University of Chicago for graduate school. Our family tree is ripe with uncles and cousins who attended A&M and almost all my closest friends wear the ring. So, I guess it seems inevitable in some ways that our family would wind up with a house that sits on the doorstep of Texas A&M.

During the time that we have owned the H.W. Bush House it has served our family in a variety of roles; as our primary home for a time, as student housing for my brother and I when we were younger and more recently as a home to a family that rented the house and raised five children there.

Out of my thirty plus year history with the H.W. Bush House one of my most enduring memories was of the 'Blizzard' that hit College Station back in the early 80's. It shut the city down and the three of us, my brother, sister and I, wound up making a giant snowman out in the front yard - we rolled three snowballs up and down Bush Avenue (though the street was named Jersey at the time) to get them big enough to form our snowman and then finished him off with a carrot for the nose. To this day I can picture that snowman sitting in front of the house with snowball tracks criss-crossing up and down the street.

What makes this house unique

Outstanding location and amenities. The H.W. Bush House has been in our family for over three decades. In early 2014 our family decided to do a complete rebuild of the property with the goal of creating the premiere short-term rental/ gameday property in Aggieland. The house was gutted to the studs and reconfigured as a 5 bedroom, 5 bath home with features specifically designed to enhance its new role as a short-term and game day rental home. We replaced all mechanicals (wiring, plumbing, heating and cooling), replaced the 55 year old windows with new double pane high efficiency vinyl windows to reduce noise and increase the energy efficiency of the property and we heavily insulated the home for both thermal and acoustic transmission (the house was originally built in 1960 and had absolutely no insulation in the walls or attic, as a freshman in high school I installed what little insulation their was in the house - up in the attic, at the stern insistence of my mother!).

Additionally, we extensively remodeled the exterior of the home, adding a beautiful cedar beamed porch and a new Austin stone facade across the front of the house. But the most dramatic transformation took place at the rear of the property where we installed a gorgeous new pool / spa and a 750 square foot covered living area with gas fireplace and outdoor kitchen. It is truly a sliver of paradise in the middle of the city!

We have striven to redevelop the H.W. House as the premiere rental of its kind in the Bryan-College Station area. It is suitable for gameday rentals and short term stays of all kinds - business trips, family reunions, anniversaries, birthday celebrations and even small, intimate weddings. I hope you will enjoy your stay in our former family homestead, and that you will come to view it as your new home-away-from-home in Aggieland

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for a great stay in this beautiful house! We really enjoyed the pool, spa and outdoor living area. We are so glad we found this place and I will definitely be looking into coming back for a game weekend in the future.

Thanks and Gig'em,

Absolutely Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

This house is simply amazing. Lots of room for folks to gather and socialize, but also well equipped for privacy, with a number of bedrooms and bathrooms. We had a wonderful weekend in College Station, and this house had a lot to do with the success of the weekend.

Wish I could give this home 10 stars!

  • 5 of 5

This home is top quality in every way! Everything is new and upscale, location is great, right across the street from the university golf course, close to restaurants and main streets. Two living areas with new, comfortable leather furniture. This is absolutely the most well stocked rental I've ever stayed in and we've been renting houses for 25 years. There is no deciding who gets the "best" bedroom because they are all the best, each with its own tv, bathroom and individual thermostats! Beds are comfortable, high end sheets and towels , extra pillows, plenty of space to unpack. Top of the line washer and dryer. Everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. The outdoor space is amazing, fireplace, big screen tv, large covered seating area, full kitchen, an offset smoker! This is the perfect gathering spot. If you have a chance to stay here, lucky you!

Fort Worth

The house met our expectations, plus some.

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time entertaining family and friends for my daughters graduation. It had more room than we expected, which was good since the weather did not cooperate.

All of guests said it was warm and inviting. Highly recommend.

Had A Blast!

  • 5 of 5

We had 3 total families with a total of 6 adults & 5 was a great meet in the middle place where we could all just spend a weekend together! All the adults got their own rooms...with a comfy bed...bathroom...TV & A/C set to their comfort level. Our kiddos had a blast sharing the bunk bed room! Kitchen inside was stocked with pretty much everything we needed to make our meals but we really enjoyed the outside kitchen with a fire going & the kids watching the TV...what a fantastic outdoor area!! Plus the hot tub was so nice to come back to after a long day out with the kids! Walter the property owner was so awesome in answering all our questions & even came out to help us figure out the hot tub...such a nice guy! The property is also located within a mile of pretty much anything you could need...stores & restaurants galore! Also, especially having the kids with us it was a blessing having a washer & dryer!

A few things to note especially if you stay with kiddos...

-This property is located on a very busy street! We did have a tough time getting in & out of the driveway especially during busy times. The front 2 rooms can be a bit noisy but we slept with a white noise machine & didn’t really hear the car traffic...we did however hear the Aggie Cadets over our white noise machine doing their morning run @ 6am shouting a few words you may not want your 4 year old repeating😂.

-The house directly behind the property has a tree house/platform where their kiddos hang out...they were up there probably 75% of the time we were there...not disruptive at all...just very visible.

-The pool is not fenced off or anything so if your kids are playing in the must be vigilant.

-They have darn near everything you need stocked in the kitchen but if you have small children...invest in some plastic plates/bowls or disposables to bring with you...we didn’t want our kids breaking their stoneware.

We really had a great time...our kids loved it...we loved comfortable & nice & we will defintely be back! It is a great property & truly a gem in College Station! Highly recommend!!
