Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (sleeps 4)

Built in 1914, this historic craftsmen bungalow took over a year to restore (not remodel). No detail was left to chance; using a forensic paint specialist to discover the original 1914 paint colors, we chose to paint the house in those original colors. The original woodwork has been beautifully restored. The house is filled with only the best high end linens and towels. Both bedrooms have king size beds for greatest comfort. This is a house that makes you feel good; it's a great spot for relaxing, re-cooperating and/or refueling. It's the perfect size for a family or 2 couples. The back yard is landscaped with a grill and seating for dining. Internet is included as well as smart TV for your Netflix or other on-line content (as well as free programming too). Staying in this home is similar to a stay in a luxury historic hotel (only cozier). If you have a larger group, we have a 'sister property' down the street that sleeps 8. See VRBO # 289207.

About Lamar Mathews

After restoring several historic homes in Galveston and Houston, my husband and I fell in love with this wonderful historic craftsmen bungalow. We spent over a year restoring this one to its previous glory.

Lamar Mathews purchased this house in 2013

Why Lamar Mathews chose Gulf Coast

We love Galveston because of the beach (of course) but we also love that there is so much history in this city. There are numerous historic tours of homes and other sites throughout the city. There are art galleries and lots of shopping for antiques and great food. There is never a dull moment with some festival or another going on every weekend.

What makes this house unique

This property is a few blocks from the beach as well as the new Pleasure Pier and a 5-10 minute drive to historical locations, the Strand and Pier 21. Yet it's also very quiet at the house if you just want to have a relaxing quiet vacation or enjoy time with family and friends. Ask about our free passes to Bishop's Palace, Elissa, Harbor Tour, or Pier 21 Theater (for short historic films). (Available while supply lasts.) We have a 'sister property' down the street if you have a large group or this one is booked try #289207

Nice home. Nicely furnished. We had everything thing that we needed. A little trouble with internet connectivity but other than that a great get away!

Owner's Response: We have contacted Comcast regarding the internet connectivity issue. (Guests understandably do not want to have to 'trouble shoot' with Comcast although Comcast was willing to do this over the phone.) My husband will go down tomorrow and get on the phone with Comcast to make sure it's working properly.

This house worked pefectly for us for the Lone Star rally 2016. House was well kept and the beds are very comfortable, slept like a baby in one of the two king size beds. Perfect location for the weekend, the beach and seawall are not far at all. Quiet neighborhood and overall a great weekend. Thanks Lamar and Courtney for the hospitallity.

Best girls weekend!

  • 5 of 5

I have been coming to Galveston for 50 yrs but mainly focused on the beach with an occasional trip to The Strand! The idea of staying in your historic bungalow inspired a very different experience for the 4 of us high school friends celebrating the last to turn 50. We enjoyed wine and cheese on the porch swing, sat out back, read books in the cozy beds and enjoyed cooking and visiting in the dining area! The house was comfortable, perfectly located and interesting! We did some antique-ing, had an amazing breakfast at Skycats, lunch at the Gypsey Joint and listened to great music at the Acoustic Cafe, mod coffee house for an amazing "just trust me" all in all it was a perfect weekend! Thank you for sharing your adorable house with us and we look forward to coming back !!

The perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful house was the ideal place for us to stay while visiting my sister. It allowed us to be near her and her family as well as near all the sights and attractions of the Galveston and Houston area. It was clean, well furnished and had all the amenities you would want. The owners did everything to make the house our home away from home and our stay a memorable one!
