About the property

5 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, 12 Sleeps Max

Our 5 bedroom, two bath home is located on the shore of all-sports Jehnsen Lake. Large 150 foot property (3 lots) nestled in the pines. Jet tub master bedroom suite upstairs with loft overlooking the great room. Upstairs bedroom accommodates a king size bed. Cottage sleeps up to 12 people with this king size bed, one queen size bed, 1 set of bunk beds, two full size beds, and 2 hide-a-beds in the living room. There are two full bathrooms, one upstairs and one down. Coffee pot (1, 12-cup and 1, 24-cup), washer, dryer, and dish washer for your convenience. Central air, Direct TV and Internet.

Outside you'll find a large fire pit, 20 x 20 deck, and 20 foot dock for your boat. A paddle boat is provided for your use. Charcoal grills and ample deck/lawn furniture are also provided. Rent for weekend getaways or by the week, just a few minutes from some of the top golf courses in Michigan. Jehnsen Lake has great fishing and boating, yet is very quiet compared to many other lakes in the area. Listen to the loons every morning and it's very common to see a eagle swoop down just over the deck.

About Tina McConnell

It has always been my dream to own a lake house. While I am not yet retired, I look forward to spending many leisurely summer days here with my children, grandchildren and friends, both now and, more frequently, when I retire. I fell in love with Jehnsen Lake while spending time with friends who also purchased in 2016.

Tina McConnell purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Tina McConnell chose Michigan

Jehnsen Lake is quiet and not over crowded. The neighbors are friendly. The opposite side of the lake will not be developed so the view never changes. Bring your canoe or kayak and explore the small channels between Jehnsen, Horsehead and Pretty Lakes. Come in the winter to ice fish and ice skate. Build a fire in the fire pit to stay warm.

What makes this cottage unique

Large property (3 lots), 150 feet of lake frontage with both shade and sun options. Large enclosed porch serves as the dining room and allows you to see nearly all the lake. Both an uncovered and a covered patio allow you many seating options.

We're located East of the boat launch on a quiet, lightly-traveled road, with a tear-drop shaped driveway and plenty of parking.

Great time away

  • 4 of 5

A group of us just recently stayed at this property and had a great time on our annual golf trip. We were close to the golf courses (Tullymore and St. Ives) which was the main reason for our stay. The views in the backyard overlooking Jehnsen lake were fantastic. There was plenty of room to hang out in the Sun Room, back porch, and porch by the lake. Thanks for letting us stay at your vacation home.

Large cottage with everything you need for a relaxing vacation getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved this property. Lots of lakefront footage with a dock and easy access to the lake. The kids loved the jacuzzi tub and fire pit. We also enjoyed the extra fridge on the back porch. The best part of this propert were the many different areas the family could congregate. There was a table and chairs on the deck by the lake, a set up by the covered porch on the house, the fire pit and the huge dining room table that overlooked the lake. We made lots of great memories this week.

Nice sized home for a multigenerational week together

  • 4 of 5

This home was the perfect size for our multigenerational week long gathering. 4 adults and 2 kids were there all week with and additional 2 adults and 2 teens joined us for a couple nights at the beginning and end of the week. Everyone had their own sleeping space/bed/futon. The three bedrooms off the living room are just big enough for a bed, the main floor master had a lot of space. The upstairs master is large too but accessed by only a circular staircase which was difficult for the oldest generation to maneuver. The main floor bath is roomy with a tub and shower. The upstairs bathroom is also roomy but only has a large tub. The living room and dining room had plenty of seating for everyone. The AC was a blessings as the temps rose. The lake was nice. Beautiful views and quiet lake. The kids easily got in and out to swim in the sandy area by the shore. The ladder/steps into the water were a bit of a challenge for the oldest generation. We caught lots of small pan fish right from the dock and using our fishing boat Grandpa and Grandson caught Northern Pike. The shady yard and the porch were a welcome relief for hot afternoons. The kitchen had most everything we needed or we found something that we could purpose differently. The kitchen is the main walkway across the house and can be narrow at times during meal preparation. The extra outdoor fridge was nice for beverages. The small stackable washer and dryer were helpful. Plenty of parking for 5 cars plus the fishing boat trailer.

  • 5 of 5

Pro's- Good fishing, Tubing on Muskegon river was fun, Second fridge came in handy, Linens were provided, A/C Hot weather all week. Nice large bathrooms. Clean house. (Missing a big Buck mount in 2 story great room!)

Cons-small kitchen however fully stocked with utensils, garbage service poor-unbearable smell from previous week. Jacuzzi jets didnt work in tub. No fire wood for firepit. (We found a local guy that delivered same day)

Mike returned calls and texts very quick. Overall 5 out of 5 and we rented various cottages for 18 years!!

We are located 13 miles (about 20 minutes) from Big Rapids, home of Ferris State University, and all the amenities of a college town.

One of Michigan's largest tubing opportunities is on the Muskegon River, about 10 minutes away.

Remus is less than a 15-minute drive, where you can go bowling, eat pizza and ice cream at a sit-down pizza parlor, and visit the Remus Tavern. You can also find a full-size grocery store, Fates Food Market.

Mecosta is 7 miles away where you can find a smaller version of the grocery store in Remus, Fates Mecosta Mart.

Pappy's Bar & Grill is just over 6 miles away. Here you can find bar games, great cocktails and great bar food. Open at 2:00PM on weekdays, 11:00AM on Saturday and noon on Sunday.

If you are looking for a small market nearby (Denslow Market) and a "mom and pop" restaurant with great food and outstanding reviews (KJ's), these are a little over 8 miles away, about a 15-minute drive. On the same corner is a Family Dollar store.

The Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park is a 92-mile long linear State park the extends from Grand Rapids to Cadillac. There are two 'park' points of entry (aka Staging areas) in Big Rapids, a park along the river and a park at the railroad depot.
