About Monique Lewis

You've heard people say 'we loved our vacation so much we didn't want to ever leave'. We fell in love with Kodiak so much that we bought a property that we could move to and share our experience with others. We are truly family owed and operated business and our guests feel like part of that family while they stay with us.

Monique Lewis purchased this lodge in 2014

Why Monique Lewis chose Alaska

This property stood out to us because it's in a remote village, but still within driving distance to Kodiak City. The atmosphere feels the same as many of the cabins you have to take a boat or float plane to get to, but being on the road system has definite advantages. The house has electric and water -- no outhouses or collecting rainwater for a shower. Basically it's the best of both worlds.

What makes this lodge unique

There aren't many places on earth that you can walk or drive a short distance, catch a nice sized salmon, and then jump in a kayak and paddle to a completely uninhabited island, cook it on a fire and enjoy true waterfront dining. There's truly something for everyone. Those who are coming to Kodiak for a fully guided experience will find no shortage of bear viewing guides, bird watching guides, wild life photographers, kayaking tours, ATV tours, etc. Those who have some experience and a big sense of adventure can plan their own outings. Some activities require quite a bit of advanced planning to make arrangements for gear, so feel free to ask and we'll assist in any way we can.

The family makes this place!

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this remote rustic Alaskan home with Monique, Sterling, and family. The guided kayak tour was simply amazing. As we sat on a black sand beach and enjoyed our well deserved rest, Sterling and Monique cooked the salmon we caught the day before on an open fire. Our hosts sent us in the right direction to catch some beautiful salmon in a secluded area where we did not need to fight the crowds. All of the meals that they made for us were fresh and delicious. They accommodated our every need including a member of our party who had special dietary restrictions.

When you first arrive, if you think this place is too rustic for you, our advice: give it a chance. By the time you leave chances are strong like us, you will have fallen in love.

Great location and lovely view, however ...

  • 2 of 5

Monique was very pleasant and helpful . Great location if fishing the Olds River is where you want to spend your day. The trek to and from town can be time consuming if they are doing road work. My only suggestion to Monique ... Hire a housekeeper!!

This is the best place...

  • 5 of 5 can possibly stay on Kodiak!...if you don't spend time with Monique & her family at their beautiful home in its amazing location, you really will have missed the boat!!...& I'm not talking about the ferry to Homer!!

Gourmet chef, klayak tour leader extraordinaire, ultra-knowledgeable about Kodiak"s culture, history, politics, flora, fauna, wildlife, et al, make staying at her place especially rewarding...she has beautiful land, a great family, great dogs, [Nico, Fallon, & Bailey], is patient & quickly responsive to whatever you may need; a dazzling multi-tasker she will even do your laundry if you want and is always asking if she can be helpful in any other way...

We would stay nowhere else on the island & we will be telling everyone we know with an interest in Kodiak or Alaska that the 9th Wave B&B is the best place to stay!!...Thanks Monique!!...Michael & Alison

Very cozy & comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

I had a great stay in Kodiak! My room was cozy and comfortable and the owner provided great customer service. I enjoyed exploring all the various beaches, fishing at the river, and kayaking in the bay. I plan on visiting Kodiak again and wouldn't stay anywhere else.
