This vacation home is the kind of vacation home you might visit to write a book or just get away from it all. Enjoy views of bald eagles, deer, blue heron, osprey, and salmon right off the deck. In addition to the natural beauty, the home was designed with your complete comfort in mind, with high ceilings, mahogany floors, and a huge kitchen and bar area. It is located 45 miles from Seattle, just outside the charming town of Gig Harbor, Washington. The vacation rental is also close to Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier, and many other great Washington State destinations.

The sleeping area includes a king-size Englander mattress with 400-plus thread-count sheets right in front of the fireplace. The luxurious bed and tranquil silence ensure restful nights, from which you will wake to stunning views of the bay and wildlife.

A KITCHEN WITH A VIEW. Prepare the day's catch with a complete view of the bay and stream. The kitchen includes top-quality appliances, commercial grade cookware, a professional knife set, as well as complete sets of wine glasses, cups, plates and silverware for six. The kitchen and bar area is a great place to cook as well as chat between the kitchen and the living room while you prepare a romantic dinner for two or cook up the days catch for the family.

For anyone who has never experienced a true Alaska-style salmon stream*, it's pretty incredible! The freshwater stream is very clear. You can see the fish right from the deck. And of course, the eagles are there for the salmon as well. The Salish House is also home to cranes, osprey and other bird life. It's the Discovery Channel right outside your door.

THE HOME IS LOCATED five miles outside of downtown Gig Harbor, Washington (a 45 minute drive from Seattle). Local shopping, dining, art galleries, a day spa, and theatre are just minutes away, or you can go a bit further and take in Seattle, Mount Rainier, or the Olympic Rainforest. The location of the house is perfect for those looking to experience the great outdoors as well as have fun in the city or just relax in secluded elegance.

ACTIVITIES ARE PLENTIFUL. The property is just three miles from Horseshoe lake and Horseshoe lake golf course. In addition, it's within a 20 minute drive of three world class courses: McCormick Woods, Trophy Lake and Gold Mountain. Kayaking, fishing, sailing, hiking and beachcombing are popular activities in the area as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know what a wonderful time we had in your vacation property. The home was just perfect! Great kitchen and living room and even though the sleeping quarters weren’t real private it was great fun having the family all together. Everyone had a perfect time. We particularly enjoyed watching the eagles on a daily basis. Having the back yard scenery change from a stream to a lake was really entertaining for the kids.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful home.

My husband and I were delighted with our extended stay at the Salish house. The property was well maintained, immaculately clean and the bed very comfortable. With Gig Harbor just a few minutes away, we were able to enjoy the many restaurants, shops and activities it has to offer. Claire, the owner, was meticulous with every detail and left an abundance of information on the area with suggestions for where to eat and what to do. Being able to enjoy the abundance of Puget Sound wildlife every day from the deck was extraordinary. We especially loved the eagles and the 2 harbor seals that swam by on our last day. We hope to go back soon with a better camera!

Awesome place to enjoy nature along with peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the eagles, the salmon run, the eclipse and timing the tide coming in.

Very roomy, loved all the natural light and driving in on the quiet little lane to the private driveway.

The owner was very accommodating with a personal request we had regarding my elder parents. So appreciate her kindness and understanding!

Definitely would stay here again if in the Seattle area!

Even better than the pictures!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a peaceful setting look no further than this property. Our family spent hours on the deck watching eagles, salmon, and other wildlife right it front of us. You are so close you could hear the eagles wings flapping as they flew by and the salmon splashing as they swam by. The bed was so comfortable a couple of times I woke up and thought I was at home. This property was the perfect place to start and end each day of our vacation the only problem we had was leaving it to go and see other things.

Solitude in the forest!

  • 5 of 5

Our trip to Gig Harbor was perfect, thanks to Claire. Her house was spotless when we arrived. They say location, location, location. This was it! Only one neighbor, and we didn't hear a peep from them the whole time we were there. Looking out onto the inlet with bald eagles, herons, and other birds was very relaxing; we came from San Diego, so it was what we needed. Everything was as the site indicated. No surprises. I would recommend Massimo's Italian Bar & Grill for dinner; it's close by. Only a 15 minute drive will get you to Tides Tavern in the town of Gig Harbor. Most excellent food and service. The short wait to sit on the deck is well worth it. Thanks to Claire for making this a most memorable vacation!

Run, Don't Walk, to this Pacific Northwest Treasure

  • 5 of 5

From the moment you make that last left turn, after having already driven down the tunnel that is a lane completely shaded by the canopy of trees, the view through the gate at the end promises that you have arrived in a place that's more than special. This jewel of a house located on this fantastic site will be the place where you'll have a stay that you'll never, ever forget. It was our third, and just thinking about it make me ache to return.

Located at the narrowing of Minter Creek, just below the salmon hatchery, you truly feel enveloped by everything that is incredible about the Pacific Northwest. Tremendous pine trees, some approaching 100 feet tall, home to bald eagles, are everywhere, even on the property. At low tide you might see a deer or two strolling down the creek bed. At high tide there's a good chance you'll see the mascot harbor seal swimming right outside your door. And, at all tides, you definitely be kept company by huge families of Canada geese, with Mom and Pop leading the parade and little fuzzy goslings bringing up the rear. We saw as many as thirty at one time during our latest trip.

The house is completely equipped for leisure and comfort, with great beds, modern high quality gear in the kitchen, excellent new laundry appliances, satellite television and WiFi. As a telecommuter, I was able to participate in meetings associated with work as if I was at my desk, although I think that behavior could be considered a flaw in my character. On the creek side of the house, the side with a deck that runs the length of the house, large windows and sliding doors bring the outside in with a view that is unmatched in my experience. The photos absolutely do not lie.

This is more than a fantastic site, it's a five star experience you'll never forget.
