This vacation home is the kind of vacation home you might visit to write a book or just get away from it all. Enjoy views of bald eagles, deer, blue heron, osprey, and salmon right off the deck. In addition to the natural beauty, the home was designed with your complete comfort in mind, with high ceilings, mahogany floors, and a huge kitchen and bar area. It is located 45 miles from Seattle, just outside the charming town of Gig Harbor, Washington. The vacation rental is also close to Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier, and many other great Washington State destinations.

The sleeping area includes a king-size Englander mattress with 400-plus thread-count sheets right in front of the fireplace. The luxurious bed and tranquil silence ensure restful nights, from which you will wake to stunning views of the bay and wildlife.

A KITCHEN WITH A VIEW. Prepare the day's catch with a complete view of the bay and stream. The kitchen includes top-quality appliances, commercial grade cookware, a professional knife set, as well as complete sets of wine glasses, cups, plates and silverware for six. The kitchen and bar area is a great place to cook as well as chat between the kitchen and the living room while you prepare a romantic dinner for two or cook up the days catch for the family.

For anyone who has never experienced a true Alaska-style salmon stream*, it's pretty incredible! The freshwater stream is very clear. You can see the fish right from the deck. And of course, the eagles are there for the salmon as well. The Salish House is also home to cranes, osprey and other bird life. It's the Discovery Channel right outside your door.

THE HOME IS LOCATED five miles outside of downtown Gig Harbor, Washington (a 45 minute drive from Seattle). Local shopping, dining, art galleries, a day spa, and theatre are just minutes away, or you can go a bit further and take in Seattle, Mount Rainier, or the Olympic Rainforest. The location of the house is perfect for those looking to experience the great outdoors as well as have fun in the city or just relax in secluded elegance.

ACTIVITIES ARE PLENTIFUL. The property is just three miles from Horseshoe lake and Horseshoe lake golf course. In addition, it's within a 20 minute drive of three world class courses: McCormick Woods, Trophy Lake and Gold Mountain. Kayaking, fishing, sailing, hiking and beachcombing are popular activities in the area as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know what a wonderful time we had in your vacation property. The home was just perfect! Great kitchen and living room and even though the sleeping quarters weren’t real private it was great fun having the family all together. Everyone had a perfect time. We particularly enjoyed watching the eagles on a daily basis. Having the back yard scenery change from a stream to a lake was really entertaining for the kids.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful home.

A perfect Christmas cabin

  • 5 of 5

Bird lovers beware, you won't want to leave this house! We loved watching and identifying all the species of feathered friends that were always in and near the water, especially at low tide. Bald eagles, egrets, merganser ducks, mallard ducks, bufflehead ducks, pelicans, seagulls, and on and on! And the salmon, so many in the water! Their fins looked like miniature sharks as they swam around spawning. The house itself was very comfortable for three adults. It was clean and well appointed. The kitchen served its purpose well as we prepared Christmas dinner and other meals. We had a hard time keeping away from the large windows that look out onto the stream and woods. We liked the secluded location, it was quiet and very dark at night, we slept well! The open bedrooms did not pose much of a problem as one bed could not see the other. We would definitely return.

Lovely cabin made for the perfect vacation.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was lovely, it was the perfect setting for our vacation.

It was cozy and warm, a real nice atmosphere inside, just as it was described in the listing. It was clean and relatively well maintained.

Looking out onto the stream was amazing, there were so many birds about, we even watched as bald eagles went fishing in the stream.

The owner was very helpful.

We would definitely go there again! And recommend it to others.

Lovely spot

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, elegantly simple house with an amazing deck. As someone said, the deck is the star. Viewing the changing tides and the bird and wildlife from here is worth staying there, seriously. The house is well equipped, very comfortable and well-cared for, aesthetically pleasing. The property manager was very nice and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would go back and stay there again if in the area. 2 caveats, though. The house design is very open, with no real separation between bedrooms, and it has one small bath to be shared. This might not work for a group. The two single beds are also meant for children, as they are short. Lastly, it is somewhat remote. If you think you are visiting Gig Harbor and walking around town, know that it is about 15 minutes away, on the freeway. There is no place to walk to for anything that we found, like coffee or groceries. Having said that, it is a unique property, well worth the trip.

What a beautiful setting!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spend six days at the Salish house and had a wonderful time. It was very comfortable. The deck is the star of the show - the bird watching was spectacular. We saw a family of eagles throughout our stay, as well as some other beautiful birds. We saw otter swimming in the inlet, and king salmon swimming upstream. The house was clean and well appointed - everything you need if you like to cook and grill. Close to beautiful Gig harbor with amazing views of Mount Rainier.

My wife and I desperately needed a quiet time away from our busy lives (and a little time away from our little boy too). Our first "real" vacation in about four years, this home fit perfectly in every way. It felt like we were coming home, it was exceptionally clean and well maintained (unbelievably so). Only a 25 minute drive from sailing, live music and dinner at the Alderbrook. A Costco, Albertsons, Target and Starbucks are one exit away for anything you may need but don't let that fool you, this home is very secluded and nestled right into nature. We spent a few hours sitting out on the deck in the sun, watching a pair of eagles fly back and forth while more than a dozen geese floated around. It was quiet, clean and very, very comfortable. A large and open floorplan that is somehow "cozy", absolutely perfect for a couples get-away. We definitely plan to return!
