We build a lodge for families to enjoy the beautiful Back Hills and rediscover a love for God's creation of nature and the gift of family and friends.

Why Sue chose Custer
The Black Hills are sacred to the Lakota Tribe and a source of gold for hundreds of years. Our lodge has a wonderful view of the internationally known Crazy Horse Monument and we are 15 miles from Mount Rushmore National Monument. The Black Hills are also home of the famous Sturgis Rally (67 miles away) and Hot Springs, SD (41 miles away) that has the largest Prehistoric Mammoth Dig Site in the world! This active paleontologist site is open to the public in a large heated and air conditioning building containing the remains of 58 Columbian and 3 woolly mammoths, along with the remains of many other ancient animals, such as saber tooth lions and Giant-Short Faced Bears. We are also close to the amazing Wind Cave National Park, (16.3 miles away) with 140.47 of explored miles so far, Jewel Cave National Moumorial (16 miles away from the lodge but the two caves are over 30 miles apart from each other) with colorful caverns and we are only a few hundred feet from the Mickelson biking and hiking Trail, a 109 mile limestone surfaced trail.
What makes this Lodge unique
We are one mile from the internationally known Crazy Horse Monument and 15 miles from Mount Rushmore National Monument, with the four Presidential Faces. Wie are also only four miles from Custer State Park and two miles from the Black Hills National Forest. Buffalo, Elk, Deer, Mountain Goat and turkey, are just some of the widely diverse wild life that can be seen regularly in the area.

A Welcome Port in a Storm!
We were riding the Mickelson Bike Trail from Hillside to Custer when we encountered some terrible weather. As we neared the Tyburn Crown Lodge, we were desperately seeking shelter. Upon entering the lodge, we were welcomed with much needed warmth.
The home was spotless and spacious. The kitchen was very well appointed as well as the bedrooms and baths. We certainly enjoyed our stay greatly. Our plan was to depart from the lodge the following morning and ride to our final destination in Edgemont. However, that night it snowed 5 inches making it impossible to ride. We had arranged for a shuttle to take us to Edgemont should the predicted weather come to pass. So at 8:30 we loaded our bikes onto the shuttle and made it to Edgemont.
It served it's purpose well, great location great layout, lots of space...needs some attention thoug
All in all, we enjoyed our stay. The cabin served it's purpose and we had a good time. However I could see other groups being troubled by some of the issues in the place.
When we got there the place had not been cleaned. The washer didn't work so we had sleep on dirty sheets. Several small, unimportant pieces to the cabin were in need of attention. A board fell off of the island in the kitchen, a light fixture outside was broken, a few other minor things not worth mentioning...oh and not that it mattered to us...but the tv was comicly small and seemed silly to list it as an amenity...my laptop is bigger. None of that stuff was problematic for our needs but could be troubling to others. The major issue for us was that it hadn't been cleaned and that the washer didn't work.
I might go back if the owners gave just a little bit of attention to the cabin...all very simple fixes that could make this place much more worth the money spent to stay there.
Tyburn Crown Cottage
Loved the location, very convenient to Custer Park and Black Hills activities. The beds are very uncomfortable and the couches were also in poor. condition and hard to sit on. I had to clean up pans from previous guest who scalded all over them before I could use to cook but did appreciate having a kitchen to cook in. Wish there was more outdoor accommodations like recliner lawn chairs to view the stars at night- so bring your own if you are into that.
Needs a better water conservation shower head. All of these suggestions are based on what one would expect for the cost- but overall it was a great little get away.

Beautiful property and really clean
The cabin was perfect for our family (9 people) 7 adults, 3 kids and our dogs. We felt very comfortable and welcomed. Everything was clean, the kitchen and living room were our favorite places to spend time as a family because they were big and had a nice view. The outside of the property was gorgeous, the kids and the dogs had a blast playing there. We stayed in the cabin at the beginning of the month of July and we never felt hot inside, the A/C was totally fine. The only observation is the beds of two rooms are a little bit smaller than the one in the main room and one room has a single bed. Anyway, my big family and I loved this cabin and would definitely rent it again in our next trip. Also, contacting the property manager and owner when making our reservation was nice. They were very helpful and explained everything about the property. They do care about their clients.
Beautifully situated charming cabin
Our family of 8 adults really enjoyed our stay at Tyburn Crown. We had everything we needed, were so close to all the attractions, and it was very comfortable and breezy atop the hill so did not miss air conditioning at all! When we were there around Memorial Day it was in the 80s during the day and cooled off nicely into the 50s. The cabin is simply furnished. The ceilings in the upstairs bedrooms are all sloped in some way, people should know, but that didn’t pose a problem. My son is about 6’ and he did fine on the futon in the loft but he did say it was a little lumpy. We opened all the windows that had screens in the morning and in the evening, just as the note from the owner said, and it was very peaceful and quiet in the area. The wind blowing through the pines is a very relaxing sound, and that was my favorite part about the cabin. The kitchen was nicely equipped, and it was great to be able to do a bit of laundry after such a long drive from Ohio. Thank you for a wonderful family weekend!
The property was as described and the location is excellent.
I would recommend Tyburn Crown Lodge and would rent this property again.
Two miles from the lodge is the landing pad of a helicopter that provides viewing rides of the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore. 7 miles from Tyburn Crown is Hill City the home of the Black Hills Institule of Geological Reserch that discovered 'Sue' the fossils of a T Rex. Not only do they have a museum of prehistoric fossils but the public can also buy real fossils!
