About Patty

We currently live in San Jose, CA. My husband works in Sports Medicine and I work as a Graphic Designer. We have one son who is attending high school.

Patty purchased this house in 2009

Why Patty chose Long Barn

We chose this location because of the view, quiet neighborhood, and it is near Pinecrest Lake, Dodge Ridge Ski Resort and Yosemite.

What makes this house unique

The view from the back of the cabin is gorgeous!

A Wonderful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Miller Cabin sits on a hill overlooking Sugarpine Creek. The area is well populated with cabins, but with the heavy forest foliage, you have to strain to see your neighbor. We were there over a summer weekend, but the noise was minimal, giving us a sense of blessed isolation.

The cabin itself is relatively new, well stocked and appointed. My daughter called it the "label cabin" because Patty has kindly labelled each cupboard, drawer and light switch so there is little need to search for required items or controls.

The upstairs consists of a great room which includes a kitchen, gas fireplace and complete entertainment center. There is also a bedroom and complete bath--including a soaker tub. Both the great room and bedroom have sliding glass door opening to the upper deck. This was more or less reserved for Mom and Dad as the kids gravitated to the lower level--the fully stocked game room. (it was here I learned my daughter has become a pool shark.) The game room also has a gas fireplace and complete entertainment center. This level has another bedroom, a laundry room/bunk room, and a second full bath. This level opens unto the lower deck and, down some stairs, unto the back yard.

As wonderful as the cabin might be, the location was perfect for us. We're dog lovers and there are miles of trails and areas to walk the dogs, including along the creek. It was hot while we were there and we enjoyed watching our Boxweiller happily splash in the water trying--unsuccessfully--to entice her little brother. Further, the area seems populated with kindred spirits and each time we went for a walk, we met others walking their hounds. Both they and their dogs were friendly, much to the delight of our pups.

Longbarn is a short drive to Pinecrest Lake with its marina, beach, picnic areas and restaurants. We rented a pontoon boat for an afternoon and had a great time. You can continue up the 108 corridor to several more picnic areas and more fishing. It's a beautiful drive to the restaurant at Kennedy Meadows.

Downhill from Longbarn it's a short drive to Twain Hart with its restaurants and my wife's favorite market. We drove down there for my son's birthday dinner.

Bottom Line? This is a great cabin and Patty is a wonderful host, accommodating our every need. I strongly recommend it.

Thank you, Patty. We will return!

Comfortable, Clean, Well-cared for home in Long Barn

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed staying in your home while we enjoyed Dodge Ridge and Twain Harte areas. We were comfortable right away with such a clean and organized vacation home with plenty of pillows, sheets, and blankets too! The fireplace was on most of the time we were playing Monopoly in the evening after playing i the snow. Our teens (16.5 and 13.5 years old) enjoyed your home and we all had fun playing ping pong downstairs. We thank you for allowing us to bring our 3 year old Golden Retriever, Hunter along as well. Thank you for sharing your lovely get-away home with all the basics which are needed with a family. Kitchen area was perfect for us with coffee maker, microwave, fridge/freezer. We didn't use oven. Plenty of dishes and large-size coffee mugs for warm drinks. Large kitchen table perfect for meals and board games. The bathrooms have been updated very nicely and no need to wait for hot water for a bath or shower! The only concern was how neighbors leave trash and other items outside their homes.

Great house but you seriously need a 4x4 plus chains to navigate the road

  • 3 of 5

This is a lovely house, ultra clean which we really appreciate, with a great layout (except for the bunk bed room which is in the same uninsulated room as the washer and dryer) and plenty of towels, sheets to make your stay comfortable. The kitchen is very functional too, if you plan to cook. The kids loved playing in the back yard and the view out the back windows is gorgeous and serene.

One negative to this place is its location on a steep hill, on a road that isn't plowed and serviced well. We only dared to drive one of our vehicles down because it was a 4 wheel drive and it slid to the bottom of the hill and got stuck in a snowbank. It took two tow trucks, a regular one and a heavy duty one, to get it back up the hill. The tow drivers described the road as "a sheet of ice" After that, we trudged up and down with all our bags, food, water, and other supplies. It's at least 1/4 mile uphill to where we parked across from the Long Barn school.

The other negative is that the wifi is seriously slow. Good for getting away from it all, bad if you need to check in occasionally to work.

Plan to stay an extra night, the cleaning and insurance fees are the same. Check in at 6 pm and check out 10 am really limits the amount of time you have to enjoy the house. Plan to have all the dishes washed and linens to the laundry room by check out too!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at our cabin. I did want to address a few concerns that you mentioned in your review. It is stated in several locations in the listing that in the winter it is strongly suggested that chains be used (or studded snow tires). We do live on a snowy mountain and the road is steep and gets icy even though they plow the road. Secondly, we often have back to back rentals and my housekeeper needs to have time to clean the cabin before the next rental arrives. That is why we have a 10am check out and a 4pm check in. Because this only gives her 6 hours to clean, we do ask that any linens be stripped from the beds and placed on the floor of the bedrooms and any used towels be left on the floor of the bathrooms. This way the housekeeper knows which ones need to be washed. We ask that you do the dishes for the same reason. The housekeeper can put the dishes away, but if you can get the dishes in the dishwasher started or hand wash and put them away - it helps with the turn around time of the cabin. Thirdly, we do provide a space heater in the laundry room. It does get very cold in that room because it is not insulated. The cots in the room can be moved to other parts of the house that are heated. I'm glad you found our cabin very clean and well supplied with everything you needed. The view is gorgeous and the available activities in the area are varied and fun. We hope you will come back in the summer to enjoy all the area has to offer when it's warm and sunny.

Wonderful cabin - like home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed over the Christmas holiday with five adults and three kids (ages 5, 7, 11) and everyone was very comfortable. The kitchen was appointed perfectly for us - we cooked all our meals there. The game room downstairs has lots of fun stuff. The slope behind the house was perfect for sledding. The trail and river were perfect for exploring. The neighbors were all kind and helpful. And it snowed all day Christmas Eve leaving us with lots of fantastic powder. This cabin was wonderful.
