Welcome to Casa Roca – “The Rock House” with the soft touch. A perfect retreat to rest and revive, a romantic honeymoon getaway or a fun filled Texas vacation, Casa Roca can fit the bill. This unusual round rock house made from locally quarried limestone, is situated in the heart of the Hill Country, the “Front Door to the West” on a fenced 5 acres shared with two other homes, including the manager's cabin, each having its own private area and view of the beautiful hill country. The ambiance of Casa Roca is a blend of east and west with an eclectic mix of Bali decor and a touch of home grown Texas details.
Comfortable for 2 guests, Casa Roca has a queen bed with living room area, bathroom with shower, equipped kitchen, and a hill country view from the shade of the front porch. Amenities include WIFI, a dock station for your Ipod, DVD player with flatscreen TV, and a stocked bookcase to keep you entertained should you decide to forego the tourist exploration and just sit on the porch and breath in the country air. Also for your outdoor enjoyment you can enjoy the porch BBQ grill, and a fire pit for those starry nights.
Various species of birds and local wildlife regularly populate the many feeders on the property (bring your binoculars!) with a common streak of red as the resident cardinal birds flash by. The private courtyard has a garden of native plants with a path leading to the rocky hillsides which wind through the property.
The historic town of Old Ingram is a short drive up the road in addition to local art galleries and performance theaters. Nearby Johnson Creek and the Guadalupe River have a number of summer camps and the drives along the rivers make incredible scenery. You will find many nearby activities to enjoy including golf, canoeing, swimming holes and antique hunting to name a few. There are many restaurants, from gourmet to the best BBQ in Texas.
Easily navigated from Interstate I10, Casa Roca would be an ideal resting place for travelers heading east or west across the USA. Casa Roca is also less than 40 miles from the sister town of Fredericksburg, a great place to do your Christmas shopping.
The Hill Country is known for its numerous fairs and music festivals throughout the year, with the Kerrville Folk Festival and Wine and Music Festival a popular attraction. Conveniently close to many historic Hill Country destinations, Casa Roca is a perfect jumping off spot for exploring this area of Texas, with many popular destinations within an hour’s drive. The interesting city of San Antonio with the famous river walk and (don't forget) the Alamo is an hour away. And the happening city of Austin, capitol of Texas and home of Texas music, is a beautiful two hour drive through the Texas wine country and fields of seasonal blue bonnets and wildflowers.
A perfect retreat, romantic hideaway, or for the solitude of one, Casa Roca is a place which can be a comfortable home base for exploring the sights of Texas, or a comfortable retreat to rest and revive. Casa Roca is the perfect resting place for anyone finding a need to visit the Hill Country of Texas.
Your comfort and peace of mind is high priority and the on -premises property managers are available to assist with any questions, or to assure that your privacy is respected.
Originally Mac is from Texas and Sharon is from N.J.. We met on the island of Andros in the Bahamas, and fell in love underwater in the blue seas. That was many years ago and we've since traveled the world.
Having lived for some years in Bali Indonesia, we were enchanted by the feel and beauty of the island, and have tried to bring a taste of that to our vacation homes for travelers to enjoy.
You'll find that we provide our traveler's vacation homes, Casa Rica, Casa Roca and Casa Bambu with a taste of the world and the heart of local love.
sharon purchased this house in 1996
This area of Texas is considered the 'front door to the west'. From Ingram to the west is sparsely developed until nearing the west coast. Sitting on the front porch of Casa Roca, you can have the feeling of a time when things were less complicated.
Make a fire, gaze at the stars, breath in the country air - relax.
Got off to a bit of a rough start, when the name and number of the person we were to call to gain access had not worked for the owner in several years. That woman probably doesn't like receiving calls from guests still. But we found the new property manager next door and after that, it was delightful. The cabin is small, but very comfortable for two people. We made friends with the dogs and cats next door, and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds (bird seed was provided). There is a fire pit out back with a pretty view of the Hill Country and we enjoyed sitting out there both during the day, and in the evenings. It was only 2 1/2 miles into Ingram, and John's market. You'll enjoy meeting John. There is a little bit of road noise from the highway, but only noticeable when you are sitting outside. You have to really watch out when you are coming to the cabin, because the entrance is hard to spot, and it's just over the crest of a hill. We drove past it a couple times before we got the lay of the land. The owner checked in with us during our stay, and check out was a breeze. You will really like Rachelle, the new property manager, and her family. They are nice people. All in all, it's a fun experience being in a small cabin out in the country. We're planning to stay a little longer than a week the next time.
Casa Roca was a wonderful spot for a hill country get away. It is centrally located to many hill country towns. Kerville, a 5-10 minute drive away has all the ammeneties you could possibly need- HEB, Walmart, many dining options. The cottage is situated right next to the caretaker's cottage and another cottage/studio but the cottage's yard is fully enclosed with tall fencing. The cottage has a wonderful covered porch with a high bar area with seating, perfect for an outside meal or morning coffee. There is seating near a stocked campfire area as well. As much as we loved and utilized the outdoor space, be aware that you are right off a main road and even though the road traffic isnt bad, you still hear cars passing. There is also a storage barn, in sight, at the next property over that had some equipment activity during our stay. The birds are feed, and we enjoyed watching them all day long. A pair of cardinals kept visiting.
Casa Roca was a perfect space for the 2 of us. The original circular rock one room cottage contains a bed, sitting areas, and a dining table. An addition houses the fully stocked kitchen, entryway, and a bathroom with shower ( plenty of towels included). It was clean and well organized.
We had a perfect combination of resting/relaxing at Casa Roca as well as exploring the area. A favorite find was brunch at the Hunt Store! Mary's tacos, take out, were fabulous too- we ate them down by the river in Kerville.
We had a small hiccup pertaining to check in - the information sent to me via Homeaway- had an old caregivers phone number to contact prior to arrival. However, Sharon, the owner, quickly responded to my email with accurate checking in information. The cottage is just about 75 minutes from the San Antonio airport. We flew out Monday morning, be aware, traffic into SA in the morning was pretty heavy.
Overall, we had a wonderful time making Casa Roca our home away from home during our Hill Country stay. It was a comfortable, unique, and convienent location that offered ameneties and outdoor space. Thank you for sharing your rock cottage with us.
This was our first experience with VRBO
Casa Roca set a very high bar for others to meet
My wife and I left the cold weather in Iowa behind to come to Texas and do some motorcycle riding
There was plenty of room to park our truck and trailer extremely secure location for our motorcycles very wonderful place.
The only downside was we didn't take enough time to thoroughly enjoy it.
Will be back next year to take 10 or 12 days
The Hillcountry has some of the best motorcycle roads in the country Casa Roca only added to the over all experience
First of all, it is not one bedroom as listed. The bed, couch, rockers, TV and dining table are all in one room. The kitchen and bathroom are separate from the one room. We found the place to be very dirty. We had to wash all of the dishes, glasses, silverware and pans that we used. The air conditioners were covered in grime and dirt; the refrigerator molding had mold on it. We had to clean both the refrigerator and microwave. We would have moved if we could have found a place with enough consecutive days to cover our stay. Other circumstances too numerous to mention.
We loved our 2 day getaway from City life at Casa Roca, the view was gorgeous and the fire pit was a bonus. The neighbors where so friendly, thoughtful and generous. We will be back!! Highly, highly recommend.
This house is precious! Mary, the property manager, was very helpful, as well as the owners. Not far from Ingram and Kerrville, we stocked up on grilling goods and breakfast foods at HEB before we checked in, then only left once to see a movie my husband was dying to see. Perfect place to slow down and celebrate our 10 year anniversary!
The house was clean, well stocked with linens, and in the kitchen. Outside offered a beautiful view! We didn't make use of the fire pit, it had rained and the cushions were wet, so we just sat on the porch and enjoyed nature.
I would suggest it to anyone looking for some quiet time!!
many summer camps in area
