Private room in lovely restored, art filled Queen Anne home just two blocks from the heart of North Mississippi Avenue. The second floor guest room has central AC and is furnished with a queen size bed, a small sitting area with an upholstered chair, table and a book case with coffee and tea for your use. The room also has desk, fridge, dresser and closet. The attached bathroom has an absurdly comfortable clawfoot tub.
A roll-away single bed is also available for a third guest.
You have access to the downstairs, too! The house is eclectic and filled with art and treasures from family travels.
The property is centrally located, very close to the freeway, 7 min. from downtown by car, 15 by bike. It is also very close to public transportation; 3/10 mile from the light rail line (the 'Max') that travels directly to the city, and two blocks from the '4' city bus that goes to a transfer station on its way to downtown. At the transfer station you can pick up a bus to take you pretty much anywhere else in the city. The Max light rail will easily take you you to and from the airport, as well as downtown and all the way to neighboring cities.
However, you don't need to travel at all once you arrive, as all that makes Portland great is just outside your door. Within a mile there are four music venues, dozens of restaraunts and bars, and scores of charming little shops. Take a walk! Enjoy!
No smoking in the house. However, there is a covered patio furnished with chairs and an ashtray.
George and I are a retired professional couple who love Portland and love sharing our beautiful city with travelers.
Genie Lyons purchased this house in 2006
Very close to everything. Very close to the freeway, if traveling by car; a block away from a designated bike corridor; two blocks away from a major bus line (4) that connects to a transfer center on its way to downtown; and just two blocks from the heart of Mississipi ave; 8 blocks from the Williams corridor, and only a mile to the Alberta arts district.
The room is also comfortable and self-contained. However, there is a full kitchen that you can use, should you so need. The living room is strikingly decorated, and boiasts the most comforatble sectional available. As the owners live on-site, they can tell you all about the wonders the neighborhood, Portland, and the surrounding area has to offer.
The home has central air conditioning unlike many in Portland; the room is pretty self-contained with its own bathroom, a fridge, coffee and tea making equipment, and a sitting area.
The main floor is also available to guests. Enjoy a living and dining area charmingly decorated with treasures Genie's family gathered from around the world and art created by friends and family. The hosts, Genie and George, live in the house, too.
There is a covered front porch where tobacco smoking is allowed. There is also a patio with seating in the back yard, accessable via the driveway and gate.
Location is great. Close to yummy food and tasty beverages, both hot and cold. The room and bed were comfortable, cozy and quiet and the hosts are warm and friendly. A great choice for those who like to go go go during the day and wind down peacefully in the evening!
Genie and George are very nice. The room is beautiful and the bed was so comfortable. We slept very well every night we were there. The room had every thing you need and they provided some snacks, tea, coffee and water in the room. The location is great. Mississippi Avenue has lots of great restaurants and shops. I would definitely stay here again.
This was indeed a lovely room and home. It felt like I had spent the weekend at a spa - very quiet and relaxing.
My fiancé and I stayed for three nights and could not have picked a better spot. The hosts were so friendly and genuine--we felt instantly comfortable the moment we arrived. The house was beautiful! Our room was clean, inviting, and very tastefully decorated. We LOVED the neighborhood! So many great restaurants, bars, and shops to explore, only two blocks away. We would recommend this spot to anyone and hope to stay there again ourselves.
We stayed for 6 days and wish it had been longer. The room is so comfortable and clean with awesome character. Genie and George are great hosts. The claw foot bathtub is delightful and they even provided some yummy snacks and drinks. Amazing location right off lovely Mississippi Ave. Yoga, restaurants and healthy grocery store right nearby. For us, it was an A++
My husband and I stayed for one night in Genie's home and wished we could have stayed longer. The home itself is lovely, beautifully decorated with really cool artwork throughout. The room was spacious, with a full private bath and very comfortable bed. It also has a cute backyard where we had coffee in the morning -- however, the house backs directly up to the freeway so there was a lot of traffic noise in the backyard. My husband found the traffic noise slightly annoying inside but it seemed more like white noise to me, and neither of us had any trouble sleeping with the windows closed. The best feature of this rental is the location -- two blocks from Mississippi Ave. We had never been to Portland before but loved the neighborhood -- full of great little cafes, brewpubs, food trucks, shops, etc. A great neighborhood for walking around -- and even though the house was just two blocks from Mississippi, it is on a quiet residential block, so you don't feel like you're in the middle of a commercial district. I highly recommend this rental, if you want to stay near Mississippi Ave.
We are just a few blocks from Mississippi Studios - live music - often national acts- pretty much every night. One of the best pizza places in Portland (Lovely's 50-50) is just two blocks from the house. There are about 20 food carts, a unationally-acclaimed donut shop (Blue Star Donuts), two breweries, and a dozen bars. Within in few blocks, you can get Thai food, Indian food, Italian, Lebanese, award-winning Mexican , burritos, southern, one of the best breakfast places in town, specialty vegetarian/vegan, Barbecue vegan, Japanese, pizza by the slice, hamburgers, a couple sushi places, A coffee shop, and a half dozen wonderful american places. There are also dozens of little shops selling shoes, books, cards, clothing, household items, records, you name it. We are also only about a mile away from the Alberta Arts district. A large grocery store (New Seasons) is only 6/10ths of a mile away.
