About the property

2 BR/1 Bath, City Views, 1.5 Miles from Downtown (Sleeps 6)

Housed on the third floor of our grand 1890 Victorian home in the city's thriving South Boston neighborhood, we are conveniently located on East Broadway with a bus stop at the corner of our block. Adjacent to the 'village' area, everything is safely within walking distance including the BCEC, restaurants, the subway (Red line Broadway Stop), grocery/drug stores, parks, Dorchester Heights historical monument, and the beach. This 1,100 square-ft immaculate, spacious 4-room apartment + full bath/tub has its own separate entrance with city views, central air, wifi, and a sizable eat-in kitchen. The unit is basic, providing a great value for a clean, comfortable, well-stocked space. The owners who occupy the downstairs make every effort to make the process easy & straightforward from start to finish for all renters. As only the 7th listing on Boston/VRBO over 12 years ago we've thoroughly enjoyed this labor of love, and all the wonderful people we've met.

We host families, tourists, actors, marathoners, and corporate clients - all enjoy our convenient location to downtown, the airport, public transport and Boston's main attractions including the Freedom Trail/Boston Common, Fenway Park, Children's Museum, JFK Library/Museum, Harvard..... all within 2 - 3 miles from here. There is no need to rent a car unless traveling well outside the city limits, although there is free on-street parking - or you can rent our parking spot for $15/night if necessary.. Finally, our 15 year old daughter is available to babysit.

About Donna & Max Rans, Owners-occupied

Married with 3 children ages 21, 19 & 15, we moved here 16 years ago (2001) from Redondo Bch, Southern California. Donna is originally from the Boston area, but moved to LA for work after graduate school where she met and fell in love with Max - a native Southern Californian she married in 1994. Seven years later, Donna convinced Max to move back to her Boston routes - and by the winter of 2015 they weren't sure why! But seriously, Boston has been a great family urban setting to raise our children - and we love the city and the exciting life it offers!

Donna & Max Rans, Owners-occupied purchased this apartment in 1999

Why Donna & Max Rans, Owners-occupied chose City Point

Even with 5 of us, this large house with 4 floors was always more space than we necessarily needed. The top floor was originally built with separate access and often operated as an autonomous level, so we continued renting it as such when we moved in. Since we have often traveled via VRBO/Homeaway, we thought it would be great to similarly offer short-term rentals instead of the traditional month-to-month or yearly leasing. We've always had much success renting our top floor through VRBO, and have met so many wonderful people from around the world. It's truly a labor love!

What makes this apartment unique

Our longevity! We were only the 7th property listed on Boston's VRBO website in 2005, long before it became popular. In light of increased competition, and with over 400 properties now listed in Boston, we remain one of the busier properties - and we're one of the few with such longevity that has all 5-star reviews. Hopefully we're doing something right:):)

Great apartment in a nice location

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is really nice sized with 2 bedrooms, a large kitchen and nice living room. Has everything you need. The T is about 3/4 of a mile away, but there is a bus stop less than 1 block from the apartment that will take you to the T. Once you are on the T, it's only about 10 minutes to downtown Boston. We typically walked to and from the T each day. Great neighborhood that feels very safe. Owners were extremely nice and very helpful. They have lots of info on Boston in the apartment, and also gave us some ideas themselves. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect Home in a Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

This lovely home had everything we needed for a wonderful stay in Boston. It was clean, quiet, convenient, and pretty.

We used mass transit for everything, including getting to and from the airport. The bus stop was just a few steps out the front door.

We fell in love with Boston. Smart, friendly, clean, safe...wish we could move there!

Our only regret is that we just had time for a friendly, brief meet-up on the stairs with our hosts as we were rushing to catch a bus. (We overslept that day!) They were so understanding.

We will be back to Boston and we will be staying here.

Thank you!

Perfect place for our family!

  • 5 of 5

This 3rd floor apartment was the perfect place for our family of 4 during a week long visit to see the historical sites of Boston. Super convenient to get to Broadway Station on the T--we did the 10-15 minute walk some days and caught the No. 9 bus right on the corner on other days. We used a 7-day LinkPass, which made riding the bus and the T really easy and inexpensive! The neighborhood was really cute and quiet, but close to restaurants, a park for the kids to run around in, and convenience stores to pick up food.

The apartment itself was amazing--large and quiet, which I would not have expected in the city! There was so much space for us to relax in the separate bedrooms, living room, and large kitchen/dining room area. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable, and the kids loved having bunk beds, playing board games in the living room, and visiting the chickens in the backyard. Max and Donna were the best hosts--so responsive and helpful! If we are ever in Boston again, we will definitely stay here!

nice location and great hosts

  • 5 of 5

Property was as advertised. Donna & Max are great hosts. It was nice staying in a real Boston house, with high ceilings and everything else I remember from back east. There's two different beaches within walking distance (the first is less than half a mile and the second is a mile). The train stop is almost a mile away, but the bus stop is just a couple of doors down. Once on the train, the next three stops bring you into downtown. We mostly used the train but took a few Lyfts when we were short on time. It was nice not needing a car and not worrying about parking.
