About Louie or Connie Saggione

My husband and I bought this home in 2008. We wanted to maybe someday live here. So we completely remodeled the home and decided to rent it out for others to enjoy and also to help us pay the mortgage until someday when we retire.

Louie or Connie Saggione purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Louie or Connie Saggione chose Castle Rock Lake

My husband and I absolutely loved the view from the back of this home, it has the most amazing sunset view. It is also very private. The inside is very spacious and perfect for the whole family +. The front yard is very large, it is perfect for outdoor games and there is also a front porch so you can watch the kids as you sit under the covered front porch.

What makes this cabin unique

The best part of this location is that you are within 40 minutes to almost anything you would like to see or do. The home is very clean and spacious and offers 2 private levels.

Away from it all

  • 4 of 5

The property was beautiful and located away from it all. The access to water was great and the property outside was convenient. The only downside was the cleanliness of the place. When you first walk in, it looks great but the longer you stay, you start to notice all the surface cleaning versus the spider webs on the ceiling. Many of our guests work for a cleaning service so this was her noticeable to us. Other than this, the stay was good.

First off, Castle Rock Lake was great! Love the area and the people! The house was big and spacious. But the obvious lack of upkeep of the property overwhelmed the positives.

In addition to items noted in other recent reviews:

-- One bed frame was broken. We fixed it because it had a somewhat acceptable mattress.

-- Dishwasher and washing machine could not be used because the "septic system was damaged".

-- The screen on the back door was ripped at the seam.

-- Don't sit in either of the 2 broken chairs on the deck. It's a lawsuit just waiting to happen.

-- Their pier was "recently damaged in a wind storm". They said we could use the pier next door, but the water depth was only about 0.5-1.0 ft, so it was unusable for our boat. Not even sure if a pontoon could be docked there.

-- The outside grill was old with a lot of caked on grease.

-- There were 10 or so dead trees on the property that need to be removed, including one fallen tree.

It's unfortunate because the property was probably very nice at one time.

Also, if you have a boat that's longer than 15 ft, don't use the launch down the street. It's too short and steep for anything longer.

Septic issues, Misleading sunset picture, Disappointed in docking accommodations.

  • 1 of 5

Our vacations started out with the site manager calling us about the septic system not working correctly. We were instructed not to use the dish washer and washing machine due to water use. Our group was relying on using these items throughout the week. We emailed the owners about getting some sort of reimbursement for this, but no response yet (waited for two weeks before writing the review). We understand that issues like this can happen, but not to contact useabout this issue prior to arrive is very poor. The dumpster that was on the next door lot was used for our garbage was overflowing because of weeks of not being emptied. Fortunately it was emptied during our stay, but still smelled, with a lot of trash from ripped bags on the ground.

My next issue was the picture that the owners posted of the sunset which shows very flat ground, park like setting. This picture is not from the property. The backyard is a tree covered hill with ankle high grass to the water. Not a big deal, but when posting pictures of the grounds have pictures that are actually from the property.

The 1/2 of dock was in, but the water is very shallow, so we ended up grounding our boats.

I do not recommend this place to stay due to the lack of functional septic and more importantly the owners not communicating to us this issue prior to are arrival. The last thing a person wants to deal with on their vacation is a malfunctioning septic system.

Beautiful property but closer to neighbors than pictures indicate

  • 3 of 5

Just a few things that were less than perfect. We weren't told ahead of time that there was a problem with the septic system so the dishwasher and washing machine could not be used or that most of the pier had wind damage and was unusable. We had to dock our boat on the neighbors pier. The pool cues had no tips, so we could not play. The patio furniture is very dated - chipped paint on the table and mis-matched plastic chairs. An umbrella would be great as the overhead pine trees drop needles continuously. Access to the garage on the lake would have been nice. The beds were very uncomfortable, mattresses were very thin and made crunchy noises. Susan (the caretaker/cleaning crew lead) was very nice and helpful. The location is great and even with these issues, we had a very nice stay.

Sewer issues and filthy house

  • 2 of 5

There were sewage issues that the owner thought were resolved but they weren't and we had backups. We couldn't do laundry or use the dishwasher all 5 days. The owner did make it right by giving us a partial reimbursement. The house was beautiful upon our arrival, it looked just like the pictures online; however, upon putting our things inside we discovered absolute filth. Registers were full of dust, floors and rugs full of sand and stains, and the mattresses were the worst we have ever slept on. That being said, the view at the lake is amazing and our kids had a wonderful time fishing. Proximity to the Dells was perfect for us.

Suggest making contact with the manager ahead of time to make sure there are no current issues before your stay (like the sewer problems).

Nice house for a family vacation.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. The house was set up nicely for our family. The bedrooms were big enough so the kids could join their parents either in the extra bed or on a blow up mattress on the floor. The kitchen/dining area was very accomodating to our needs. There was an extra dining/storage area off the main living area that walked out to the back. This came in very handy. The fire pit area was great. There is no sand beach area. However it was easy to go over the rock wall area and into the water. The water is very shallow a long way out, so the kids have a lot of fun in it. We ate outside most of the time on the huge deck. The front yard was big enough to play lawn games on. There were a couple of things that needed attention and we mentioned on check out. Two kitchen lights were burned out and made that area dimmer. The deck railing in one corner was broken. We set two chairs in front so the kids wouldn't fall through. (The deck is over the patio that comes out of the basement.) The screen door to the deck was in need of repair.

Overall, we were very happy with this place and would come back again.

Car: recommended

Wisconsin is known for its miles of groomed snowmobile trails and also for its great fishing and hunting. In the summer Castle Rock Lake offers many great days of summer water fun. the Dells are about 35 min away and the water parks all offer day passes if interested. Also, the Dells have great shopping experiences. But the best part is, you leave the hustle and bustle of the Dells to return to your quiet cabin!
