Why ed kydd chose Grand Strand - Myrtle Beach

We were looking in Florida and the Carolinas and decided on this location because of its safe and friendly proximity, (100 yards), to its beautiful beach.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy the beach as well as the great dining and boardwalk at Murrells Inlet. The weather is beautiful most of the year, and the beach is only 100 yards away, at an uncrowded entrance. My wife enjoys the reading at and walking the beach.

Fantastic House, close to beach!

  • 5 of 5

We were uneasy because one of the previous reviews mentioned roaches and electricity problems, but we encountered neither (the owner explained that he had just had an electrician and pest control worker come in the day before). So, here comes the review!

Definitely one of the best locations in the area. The house is in a gated community, but extremely accessible (only about a 1 minute drive from the gate. I usually hate being in gated communities, but being on the edge of one was very nice, since we had all the perks and safety of the community, without the hassle. Furthermore, It's close enough to the boardwalk to walk down to it, but far enough away that the noise and excessive crowds don't overwhelm you. The best part about the location, however, is it's proximity to the beach! Only about 200 yards away, and a 1 minute walk, I was really blown away by how accessible the beach was. I walked down to go for a swim four or 5 times a day. Truly exceptional.

Inside the house: From the photos, I didn't quite expect it to be as nice as it was. But, it is very well kept up, with a great kitchen and dining room table, and nicely sized living room area. The master bedroom is exceptional, and the other two bedrooms that we slept in were also great. One room has a bunk bed as well as a normal bed, so it is great for kids! The porch is also a great added touch; it has open space as well as an area under an awning if it is raining. All around fantastic house, and superbly touched up. Aesthetically pleasing and comfortable.

There are several things we didn't use, including the downstairs and some of the upstairs bedrooms. We were too busy going to the beach and having a great time. I really have no qualms about this beach house. It was a truly wonderful experience. The owners were very accessible and seemed to care that we had a pleasant experience, and care how well the house was kept up.

awesome place

  • 5 of 5

My stay was very nice the location excellent and the place was clean and smelled fresh. Love the porch with the ocean breeze and when it rained most of our first day I found a good book on the bookshelf and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The home is large enough for a family reunion which we did last year and cozy enough for a smaller group like we had this year. There are bikes and boards in the shed and the kitchen is well stocked with pots pans and dishes everything you need for a beach stay is already there. we will be back again next year. we rented both the upper and lower unit and it worked my Dad who is 99 and my family who is younger.

A little bummed

  • 3 of 5

My family and I drove about 14 hours for our yearly trip. The location of the house was great, the beach access was right there. The deck was very nice to sit on and play cards. We had a few problems on the inside. There were roaches in the house which left us bagging our food. We lost hot water for about a half of day. The light and the fan in one of the bathrooms did not work. The owners cleaning lady, who was very nice, came and explained that the electrical was a little tricky. They also sent pest control but my husband went out and bought bug spray and roach motels first thing Monday morning. He was a landlord for many years and after looking around a little more closely saw evidence of them. He also does construction for a living and so taped up the dryer vent because the room we were in which is where the washer and dryer are got very hot when we did laundry. The apartment downstairs is pretty nice but we had to air it out because it had a funky smell when we first arrived. It did seem to go away by Thursday. The owner was nice about it at first but seemed to get annoyed. We took pictures of the bugs because the owner felt that we were making it up that we had to keep killing them. We just kept cleaning things and left it clean for the woman who takes care of it. She was nice enough to bring us some spray to use on our bags before we left. A big thank you to her!! We have been doing this for 7 years and now we know to look a little more closely at what we are renting.

Owner's Response: My wife and I have just left,(Aug 29th), after a two week stay. My family came and saw no insects, but we went ahead and hired a new pest control guy anyway, as we want to make sure that we eliminated the problem, so we 'bombed' the place with several aerosol cans We did a deep cleaning from top to bottom and bought a new ceiling fan, microwave, fridge, oven hood, a bathroom light/fan, bedding, another TV and updates. We also hired and electrician and a new handyman. We strive to offer a superior place, and we take our tenants feedback seriously. We address problems as soon as they are brought to our attention. It is a beautiful and clean place.

Spacious, accommodating & very close to the beach!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay! There was plenty of room upstairs and down. The kids loved riding on the golf cart and it was fun to use it to go to the pool(s) and community activities. The house is located in a subdivision/community that hosts weekly events, which was fun. There is also a playground, Bocce, tennis courts & basketball courts that you can use. The outdoor pool has a splash pad, which we and the kids loved! You couldn't ask for a better location, other than right on the beach. The house is located in a cul-de-sac and it's just a quick walk between 2 houses and then across the street to the beach! There is also a beachside restaurant, The Conch House, within walking distance and the Pier is just a little ways down the street. Very fun trip! :)

The deck is nice and its close to the beach, the house could be good, but...

  • 3 of 5

The house wasn't that bad, it had plenty of space for the 13 people we had in our party. The beds could definitly use some updating as most of the mattresses are not that comfortable. When we arrived late saturday, we noticed the downstairs was very must and smelled like wet dog. With some airing out, air freshners, and extra cleaning the odor became managable. The owner has a dehumidifier, but some people turn it off and other bring their wet dog in there. So while its understandable, still every inconvienient. Sunday we started noticing bugs (roaches and ants), we cleaned some figured it was just a SC thing. Monday morning we found a lot of tiny roaches, we cleaned some more, texted the owner the problem, and went and bought some of our own bug spray. Now the owner will say he never got the text, that's because there were two different numbers for him on two different emails, we picked the wrong number. (we didn't realize the two different numbers til the next day). So we emailed him the next day our complaints and he called back and we spoke about the problems we were having with the house. These were the bugs, the smell, old TV and fridgerator, remote without battteries, and a few more. He was more than pleasant and helpful, sent his housekeeper and the BUG guy, offered the get new TV and fridge (we declined we don't watch much TV on vacation and just kept food in up and downstairs fridge). Following the the visit from the bug guy and housekeeper, he emailed back that they didn't see any live bugs or many dead ones and the "infestation" must have run its course. Of course they did see signs of bugs, we cleaned and sprayed and cleaned again. We have to keep all of out food out of the cabinets and in plastics bags on the counter. Very inconveinient. Then the hot water cut off, it tripped the breaker, just inconvienient, but a 1/2 day withot hot water. At this time, my family was getting very upset and wanted to leave, they did leave a day early. We asked if there was any way we could be compensated for the many inconvieniences, the owner got a little defensive and said we didn't contact him for three days and we were supposed to call. With out these problems the house would be good. It was remodeled but the "guts" of the main house are still old. The owner admitted the plumbing and electric were old and things worked tricky. Many of the problems are out of the owners control and some need to be fixed. So just be aware

Owner's Response: Every issue listed has been resolved. The ants came from a brand new AC/heat pump, which was dripping. We had told the contractor back in April, and thought that it had been fixed, but we were sadly mistaken. We called the plumber ourselves and found a drip caused by a leaky fitting. It has been fixed and the ants are gone. The hot water heater is brand new and we are adding a new breaker box so that it will have a dedicated circuit. We hired an electrician who spent the day updating old outlets with his apprentice. My family did not see a single bug, but I saw a few so we bombed and cleaned the place. We worked on the house for two weeks while my family visited. Read our other reviews, from people who were not seeking money. We spare no expense in offering out tenants a clean, modern house for a great vacation experience. Our kitchen is the only room that we have yet to remodel, and ALL of the appliances in it are new. The beach is a minutes walk, and it is said that we have the nicest house on the street, which is the closes to the Ocean in Oceanside Village
