About Sandra Mondragon

Originally an L.A. girl, I am now a true local Kamaaina woman. I have enjoyed the island life for 23 years in Oahu and now live in my dream destination in the Big Island. Currently, I share this dream and life with Patrick and Kai, our sweet border collie. We enjoy sharing our hospitality retreat and also love hiking, biking, swimming, whale watching and gardening which are some of our favorite activities. Also for the past 16 years I have worked in the spa industry and now I get to share my dream home and my tranquil spa with you. Regarding my spa, I offer special rates for my guests. Services include:massage, facials and skin care treatments and sessions can be scheduled either prior to, or during your stay.

Sandra Mondragon purchased this studio in 2014

Why Sandra Mondragon chose Puna District

The view of Mauna Kea, the sunrises & sunsets, sounds of the ocean, quiet, safe and private. The sunniest geographical spot in the area, perfect spot for whale watching, space for an orchard, vegetable garden, and collection of exotic plants and trees that I planted with joy.

What makes this studio unique

Five blocks to the ocean and walks along the lava cliffs.

Great location for seeing all the best sites.

One level home with wonderful space.

Owners on premises for any questions or help.

Newly decorated and fresh and clean.

This darling place is so cute and clean we loved it. Sandra has thought of every little touch to make it perfect. I was even able to book a massage before dinner. We can't wait to come back.

Sandra & Patrick were extremely kind and accommodating! My husband and I stayed here for a weekend while we checked "playing with lava" off my husbands bucket list. The property is beautiful and quiet and we would absolutely come back!! Hopefully soon!!

Sandra, Patrick and Kai were friendly and provided everything we needed including air conditioner for the bedroom. We especially enjoyed having breakfast in the screened lanai.

Excellent, As Always

  • 5 of 5

I stay at Sandra's a couple of times a year because I have family nearby. This visit was as nice as previous stays. The studio is immaculate and very comfortable. A portable air conditioner is now available, which is great for very muggy nights. I'm pretty happy with the dual ceiling fans.

Our Stay - too short!

  • 5 of 5

It had been 5 years since we'd been back to Hawaii. This time around, we wanted to experience something other than hotel stays. After pouring over ads on VRBO, we came across Sandra's listing. Not many offer 1-2 night short stays, but my husband and I were lucky enough to do so. Sandra answered my questions and emails promptly prior to our departure. In addition, detailed directions and information for check-in were also provided .

Photos accurately depict the listing as described. Away from the crowds and rush, Sandra’s retreat is truly quiet and comfortable. It’s a very clean, nicely decorated and well maintained studio with all the extras and amenities for 2 people. It’s country living, with lovely manicured grounds and the screened-in lanai with BBQ and patio for outdoor dining was an added bonus as well as a comfy bed and great bathroom. Although Sandra wasn’t available to greet us, Patrick and Kai, their friendly canine did so. Patrick answered all of our questions and also gave us directions to the nearby beach where we watched the waves crashing. A handy binder provided information and directions to close by attractions. The vacation rental is central to all the sights as illustrated by the listing’s included photos.

Our only regret was that our stay here was short. If we are lucky enough to get back to Hawaii and the Puna side of the island, we’d definitely stay again. We highly recommend and will be sharing info. with friends.

Located in a safe and natural setting, this peaceful retreat offers the sounds and trade winds of the nearby ocean as well as the proximity to the beauty of some of the Big Island's more lovely attractions. Among these, of course, are the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the two volcano mountains, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, all of which offer unique and unforgettable experiences. Adventures in hiking and biking abound. The drive to Volcanoes Nat'l Park is quite lovely with orchid nurseries along the way. The small village of Volcano is also worth exploring for it's art galleries. Closer by, five minutes away, is the rugged volcanic coastline which offers both beautiful seaside walks as well as seasonal whale-watching. Also, the Puna District offers a beautiful and scenic tour of this area's pristine coastline. Among the features of this tour are: the Petrified Forest State Park, the tide pools at Kapoho with it's ideal snorkeling, and the warm pools at Alahanui Park. Further along is the Isaac Hale County Park for surfing, snorkeling and diving. At the end of this drive is Kalapana which displays one of the area's most recent volcano flows. The nearby, charming village of Pahoa offers a quaint glimpse of life into the past. Further north is the town of Hilo with it's own old-world charm, it's bay and it's good variety of dining establishments. Going up the beautiful and scenic Hamakua coast, are the Akaka Falls State Park and the Hawaiian Tropical Botanical Gardens, both of which offer a beautiful and unique experience of the Big Island. PLEASE NOTE: our location is over 10 miles from the lava flow and is safe. We are completely unaffected by the flow.
