3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8
This charming cottage is a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom vacation residence. It is located on a beautiful, inland lake, Big Lake. Big Lake is a 137 acre all-sport lake. The cottage is located 12 miles from L'Anse, off The Plains Road in the Watton/Covington Area.
Our cottage is newer construction with a large great room that is perfect for gathering. Two satellite flat screen TV's are available in the living room and family room. First bedroom and bathroom are located on the main level; this bedroom has a king size bed. Lower level has a bathroom, one bedroom with a queen size bed, and the third bedroom contains two twin size beds. The lower level also has a queen size pull-out sofa and a futon. This level walks out to a covered patio. Additionally, the kitchen has a full size refrigerator, stove and various small appliances to meet your needs. All linen and paper products will be provided. There is also a laundry area on the lower level.
In the summer, enjoy your evenings by the fire pit or relax under the covered deck or screened gazebo. A gas grill is perfect for preparing your meal. There is also a paddle boat for your pleasure.
Additionally, our cottage is conveniently located just off the Baraga Plains Trail Head with easy access to snowmobile/ORV/ATV trails. Winter brings heavy snowfall and great snowmobiling! It is also located near thousands of acres of state and federal hunting land, near the Ottawa National Forest and the Sturgeon River Gorge.

Great place, highly recommended!
The cottage is the perfect place to stay for snowmobile trips! My group has been going to the cottage for 3 years and are always extremely happy with our experience. Everything is very clean and and the cottage offers all the necessary amenities. I would highly recommend it to anyone!
Great place for snowmobilers.
Great location for snowmobiling. House is beautifully updated and spotless. Easy to find. Plenty of room for large trailers. Could sleep 2 families easily. Great owner to work with.
Great home and property
The home and property are wonderful, everything you could expect. The furniture and carpet is in excellent condition and the kitchen very well furnished. The lake is a nice size, quiet, and peaceful. The water frontage is in a weedy area so expect to walk through some stuff if you want to swim. It wasn't too bad for me, but children who like to play in the shallows may not agree.
The only thing keeping us from 5 stars was the sense that we were house-sitting for someone. We've done VRBO several times and the owners have always locked their personal things out of the way in closets. Here, the bathroom medicine cabinet was full of all the personal items you'd expect to find in someone's medicine cabinet, and the freezer was half full of food, frozen glasses, bags of ice. These were minor annoyances because we spent most of our time on day-trip sightseeing, but I can see it being a problem for guests who want to really 'move in' for a week and not feel like they are intruding on someone else's bathroom and kitchen. That said, it was nice to have access to food condiments.
All in all though, we had a great time and recommend this property unreservedly.
Very clean and nice property on a lake that's limited for summer fun.
This cottage is beautiful and well kept. It sits on a lake with stunning views both morning and night. It is fully equipped and really accommodating for everybody. It was the most silent lake and property I have ever stayed in. The neighborhood has some cottages that are boarded up and overgrown so it might be that the area itself has had better days.
Having the rowboat was nice, though it is small and is really just comfortable for two people. The waterfront of this property is not suited for swimming. Though it has some sand, it is not a beach. It has substantial reeds and a soft, muck bottom which also makes it a real challenge to get the boats onto the water. This property would be very well served by a short dock. It's hard to figure out what this lake is actually for - swimming? No. Fishing? Not really as there seems to be virtually no structure and rapidly varying depths around sandbars across the lake. During our stay, there were perhaps 3 other people on a pontoon boat, 1 person swimming from their property for a few minutes at a time and nobody else fishing. It is described as an all-sport lake, but we saw almost nothing happening on it. We had probably 85 combined years of fishing experience in our group along with a good bit of tackle, a trolling motor and a fish/depth finder. Using numerous baits, both live and lures, we brought in maybe 12 fish - small perch and yearling largemouth all around the lake, over 3 days of fishing. The exception to this was one catch of a largemouth at about 21 inches using a perch as bait. We might have cracked the code a bit, but this was a challenging place to find fish.
This is no reflection on the cottage or the owner, but it was impossible to stay outside after dusk even around what looked to be a great fire pit as the mosquitoes were just too much. Even standing at the grill was impossible due to the bugs.
This is likely a great destination for snow machines and it is easy to see how running around on a cold winter day would be a great use of the property and the area. For our summer use, however, it provided a great place to stay in and relax as a place of departure for other activities.
Treasure of a Cabin
We enjoy our stay, spacious cabin, clean, and we enjoyed hiking to the nearby waterfalls! We were here for MTU graduation so it was a bit of a long, daily drive to Houghton, but our late planning brought us to this treasure of a cabin.
The cabin was great! It exceeded our expectations. It was clean and well maintained with nice finishes throughout. Great lake view. Loved the covered patio and the sunroom. We would love to stay there again! Thanks for a fantastic weekend!
