Overview

About the property

Features best views of Royal Street from the 47 foot gallery in 2nd floor flat

Welcome to the 2nd floor flat of this one of a kind, famously-celebrated 1823 Mansion in the heart of the historic French Quarter. This award-winning home formerly owned by celebrities, Delta Burke and Gerald McRaney, remains in the family and has been featured in numerous movies, commercials, advertisements while hosting celebrities and international dignitaries.

Our home is professionally decorated in a luxuriously modern and eclectic European style. Situated between St. Philip and Ursuline Streets you can enjoy sitting on the front stoop sipping 5 o’clock cocktails and watch the world go by. There is over 2,400 square feet offering 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths with tub/shower combination making plenty of room for everyone. Attention to detail is evident everywhere even down to the luxury linens.

The Living Room focal point is the wall of 14-foot floor to ceiling “walkout windows” to the front Gallery. This 47-foot x 8-foot gallery showcases seasonal plantings and one of the most beautiful views overlooking the prestigious and renown Royal Street. The Gallery also acts as a second living space making it a natural extension of the Living Room; ideal for entertaining family and friends. Dine alfresco at the table seating 4-6 or sit back in one of the various seating areas and listen to the clip clop of horse hooves echoing sounds of long ago as the carriages roll by.

No need to go to the kitchen for a cocktail, just walk through the window where a beautiful antique bar has everything at your fingertips. Recline on the leather sofas in the Living Room watching a movie or cheering for your favorite sports team on the 65” flat screen TV; sound bar and sub-woofer creating that immersive “surround sound” experience for you.

The 1st full bath with tub/shower combination is accessed from the Living Room with fluffy white towels provided for your comfort.

The first Master Bedroom is located off the Living Room with a king size canopy bed dressed in deluxe linens. An oversized armoire contains extra linens and pillows should you need.

The second Master Bedroom located off the kitchen and first Master Bedroom contains a king size bed dressed in crisp white, deluxe linens. Showcased above the bed is an antique tapestry with an Oriental motif. You may also open a door and access the rear, covered back porch and enjoy the fresh night air. From this bedroom access is gained to the 2nd full bath with tub/shower combination and the laundry area where an extra-large capacity washer and dryer are available for your convenience.

The laundry area stores a twin-size mattress roll-away bed with linens in the cupboard are easily accessed if needed.

The third bedroom is off the Living Room which we refer to as the Peacock Bedroom due to its decor theme. The conversation piece of the home, an antique and ornate Opium Bed reputed to have been previously owned by the actor Nicholas Cage, sleeps 2 as a double. This rare find is covered in crisp, white designer linens with vintage accents creating an oasis within its alcove. An exquisite jade accented oriental dressing screen provides the perfect complement to this full/double size bed.

The large open kitchen has a stainless refrigerator with 2 ice makers to keep up with your beverage needs, 12 cup coffee maker, microwave, electric range and dishwasher plus many other amenities for your use. Gather around the large farmhouse table to enjoy your meals or relax on the settee while the meal prep is taking place.

Open French doors to the private, covered back porch that overlooks the courtyard and garden creating a wonderful place for that morning cup of coffee. If the afternoon sun gets too bright, lower the shade awnings and enjoy a breeze from the ceiling fan reading a book on the sofa.

Take the back stairs down to the communal area courtyard and pick ripe limes from our tree; feel free to use the “Egg BBQ Grill”. Sit under the patio umbrella listening to the soothing sounds of our antique Victorian fountain as your worries trickle away.

This is our HOME…we are looking for guests who will respect and appreciate that. Our collection of art, antiquities and sterling silver touches at every turn are for the discriminating few; guests who can appreciate what we offer and wish to experience the real French Quarter, living like a local in luxury.

Main thing is… come visit, stay a while; see, taste, discover and explore everything that makes this city magical and beautiful and why we call it “HOME”!

***The 1st floor (VRBO listing #348055) and 2nd floor can be utilized separately or together. Both are accessed by the main door of the home into a communal shared area where the staircase leads to the 2nd floor. Inquire if you require or are interested in both floors for your needs

PLEASE NOTE: Our Carriage House in the rear courtyard is NOT AVAILABLE for use. This separate space is reserved for the owners with private access through the garden gate. Rest assured, your privacy is always of the utmost importance and respected.

Very unique and wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

I rented the whole property (upstairs, downstairs and carriage house) and we loved it. We had several people staying in the house, and so long as you are close with those you are sharing with, it is fine. There is not a lot of privacy, because of the antique design of the house, so some bedrooms need to be walked through to get to other rooms, and some of the doors don't shut all the way, but again, if you are with people you are comfortable with, it is not a problem. We could not have had a more perfect place for our stay. Everyone did their own thing, and came and went as they pleased but we all congregated at the house and were able to have lots of quality time together there as well. New Orleans is all about the city and this home is in the heart of it all and you can experience it all. We walked everywhere as it is right on Royal. We enjoyed the courtyard coffee in the morning, afternoon cocktails on the front balcony, nightcaps on the back upper porch. The home itself is a true antique, and it has the typical and standard issues a home of this age will have. If you love antiques you will love this home. It was also very clean and the linens were SO wonderful. The beds were such comfortable nests. After our daily adventures we would come home and curl up and dream of all the magic that is NOLA. Ina, the caretaker, was there to handle any and all issues we had (she lives across the street) and she also arranged and coordinated a lovely dinner party for us that was so perfect. I cannot thank Ina and Mrs. McRaney enough for letting us stay and have our celebration of a lifetime at their home.

Great property

  • 5 of 5

The property at the fantastic french quarter is fabulous. We enjoyed it very much, great location, interiors and service. But also the manager, Ms Ina, who was very kind and helpful, makes this place even more special. We recommend everybody to experience New Orleans while staying at Royal Street.

Rude manager, rodent issue, great location

  • 1 of 5

We stayed here for our wedding. Upon arriving the manager first tried to put us in the small carriage house and seemed annoyed when actually shown the email confirmation for the larger upstairs apartment. When we arrived, there were dishes in the dishwasher, wet towels/sheets in the washing machine and towels/sheets drying in the dryer. After the first night, we noticed rodent droppings in the kitchen and that rodents had chewed up some Kind bars we had brought and left (unopened) on the kitchen table. Upon inquiring about the rodents, the manager simply informed us that the house has mice and roaches from time to time because of proximity to the river. Fine, but perhaps give people notice of that so that they can put all edible items in the refrigerator. In response to the issues regarding droppings and dishes in dishwasher, the manager informed us that this was not a hotel, and that their cleaning person would not come back that day unless we paid her. The owner did offer a refund if we left that day, but that was a hollow offer since we were there for our wedding weekend, having booked the entire home for relatives. It is a great location and we did not let the attitude of the manager or the rodent issue ruin our wedding weekend. We would not stay here again, however. Too many other VRBO options in New Orleans.

Great location, beautiful home, wonderful caretaker

  • 5 of 5

You can walk to anything you need from this property. Bourbon st is one block over, shops, restaurants, cafe du monde- all are minutes away. Honestly though, leaving this beautiful home was difficult. The deck (gallery) was the perfect people watching spot. The house isn't soundproof...you can hear your neighbors downstairs clearly. Bring earplugs to sleep if you're sensitive to noise.

Ina, the caretaker, is delightful. Full of knowledge and recommendations, helpful, warm & welcoming.
