About Vivian Lank and Ray Back
I have lived in Vancouver BC most of our lives where we ran a VRBO rental in the heart of the city since 2008. We have done extensive traveling throughout the world and have always dreamt of owning a home in Laguna Beach.
Vivian Lank and Ray Back purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Vivian Lank and Ray Back chose Woods Cove
I now spend my summers in Vancouver and our Winters at Laguna in a small suite on the propert . Golfing sailing and the famous art community attracts me to Laguna Beach. It is the perfect place.
What makes this Cottage unique
Laguna Beach is hosts the famous Festival of Arts, Pageant of the Masters and the Sawdust Festival. Laguna is a walking town, especially in the summer when traffic and parking can be problematic! In the summer there's a free trolley service to move you all over Laguna which stops 3 houses away from our house, or you can choose to take a 30 min walk all the way to Main Beach downtown Laguna. It may take you a bit longer if you choose to linger through lots of Art galleries and unique shops or stop for a bit at one of the many restaurants on the way. Albertsons and Vons Grocery stores are a 5 min trip on the trolly. This location is half a block walk to the very private and romantic Moss Point Beach. Location really is everything in Laguna and this spot not only allows walking distance to the best spots. Very easy access routes to outside locations like Dana Point Marina, Fashion Island, South Coast Plaza, Disneyland, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, LA... SNA Airport is only 15 minutes away.

Best place we’ve ever stayed!!!
Loved this place!!! From the fun collections, to the funky little things, to the wonderful antiques, artwork, and memorabilia , to the great walkways filled with plants and succulents.... to that great kitchen, to the fun bathroom, the ocean breeze filled deck...the many, many little details that I loved ! Would LOVE TO LIVE HERE!!!
A disappointing rental
We stayed at Vivian and Ray’s Laguna “Woods Cove” cottage for the month of July 2018. Vivian was quick to respond to questions and requests, and Maria, her caretaker was equally quick to respond, but we still can only rate our experience as a 2 of 5 stars for the following reasons: (1) There were 38 steps up to the front door from the street and the steps were mostly fashioned out of rocks laid by an amateur, with a hand rail accessible for only 5 of those steps. For someone, like my wife, who walks with a cane or is mildly handicapped, the walk up and down was very difficult and somewhat unsafe. The same could be said for any elderly people or guests with young children. (2) The online ad also said the cottage was “steps from the beach” but in fact one had to walk 2/5 of a mile to the entrance to the beach and then manage a long flight of stairs down to the beach. Again anyone mildly handicapped would not consider the cottage location as “steps from the beach”. (3) The beautiful photograph online of their living room was not in fact what the living room currently looked like. The living room had been staged by a real estate company and all that beautiful furniture in the photograph was replaced by very old and uncomfortable furniture. (4) As soon as we arrived, three of the wooden kitchen chairs fell apart and we had to go and buy Gorilla Glue to glue the chairs back together. The old wooden bed frame in the master bedroom also broke, during the night of week two, and was unusable until Vivian had it replaced with a new bed. (5) and finally the gas grill outside was filthy and therefore not usable, the outdoor washing machine and dryer were covered with dirt, the kitchen faucet never had hot water, one of the two wrought iron chaise lounges on the deck was broken and unusable, both bedroom air conditioning units had to have their filters cleaned due to a half inch of dust on each one, the outdoor wrought iron table needed new paint, the pots and pans in the kitchen had to be scrubbed before we could use them, the guest bedroom lacked any furniture to put one’s clothes in, the one clothes closet was located between the bathroom and the master bedroom, there was no vacuum cleaner on the premises until we asked Maria for one I (which she brought over), there was no kitchen step stool to reach the high kitchen cabinets, there was no overhead light over the dining room table so as to allow us to have dinner or play games at the table at night, more..
We had an amazing time! From the location to the property itself. Great experience!
The location was amazing. The property is right off the highway and very convenient to go to the beach, shopping, etc... Thr cottage is charming and cozy with a view that is out of this world. We felt right at home and could have stayed longer....
Kim and her family were great guests. We are happy they enjoyed our home and would welcome them back anytime.
Awesome location, extremely charming
Great getaway, setup was ideal to our tastes and the kitchen worked perfectly for our cooking needs!! Great access to all of Laguna, but quiet and peaceful at night. View from the deck was wonderful... Thank you, Vivian!!
A breath of fresh air with magnificent views
My boyfriend and I had the pleasure this January of staying at this wonderful home.
My dream came true to really relax and have a cup of coffee looking out at the sunrise and a glass of wine taking in the gorgeous sunset on their expansive deck.
It felt like home upon walking into an open, comfy, shabby chic kind of feeling, with many of Vivian's, the owners, art pieces throughout the house.
Loved the chandliered gourmet kitchen.
A bit hard to navigate the long winding cobblestone stairway to the top for our accommodations, but it was worth it once we got there.
We just really loved the entire laguna beach area and hope to come back soon.
Quite a lovely respite from the cold in New York.
We truly enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of the owners Vivian and Ray.
Thanks for letting us stay in your delightful place!
It was the perfect retreat for our girlfriend getaway. It felt like home. Beautiful yet functional and comfortable. The ambience felt as though we were in a cozy French cottage. From the eclectic mix of antique furnishings to the beautiful artwork reminiscent of Monet and the Impressionists, to the high beamed ceilings with sky lightings , wood floors and wraught iron railings to the claw foot bathtub. Possibly the most comfortable sofa I've ever sat upon. The deceptively quaint kitchen with modern conveniences and state of the art appliances. We felt at home immediately and were reluctant to leave.
If I could make one suggestion I would add a magnifying makeup mirror perhaps at the bathroom window.
Minutes from bus. We are located on the famous Art Walk that happens every 1st Thursday of each month. Enjoy lots of free treats and wine. A must do.
