I work in public relations and was formerly a journalist. I am passionate about baseball, my family, baseball, dogs, baseball, travel, baseball and ... well ... you get the picture.
While living in the SF Bay Area for nearly 30 years, I have traveled in 65 countries, plus Antarctica, so I have first-hand knowledge of the issues travelers can encounter. San Francisco is a city of 49 square miles/127 kilometers, but it is unique and very culturally diverse. As a host, I will do all I can to help enrich your travel experience.
Carter Cromwell purchased this apartment in 2011
This property is very well located -- with easy access to Potrero Hill restaurants; the fun, eclectic Mission District; downtown; freeways and public transit; the AT&T baseball park; Fisherman's Wharf; the Embarcadero.
Walking distance to SF General Hospital, free shuttle to all UCSF campuses. Near Moscone Center.
We have stayed in 6 vacation rentals in SF in as many years. The first 5 are no longer rentals, having vanished in this crazy real estate market. None of the 6 rentals were perfect, in fact none of the 50+ vacation rentals we have enjoyed on our travels have been perfect. This Potrero Hill flat is no exception. Overall, though, it is an excellent place to call home while you visit this beautiful city. It is bright and spacious, occupying a whole floor, unlike many flats in SF that are chopped up into 2 or 3 apartments. This means that you have windows on 4 sides and even a back deck, which is often sunny and is quite peaceful and quiet. We also enjoyed the fireplace and views across the Mission to Twin Peaks from the LR. Beautiful watching the fog roll over the hills.
Carter greets you and offers help up the stairs with your luggage, gives you a quick tour of the place, and provides abundant info about shopping, dining and transportation. Street parking is easy to find but has weekday time restrictions. Carter offered help with that to make the restriction irrelevant. We mainly used public transit, with 3 good bus lines stopping within less than a block from the front door. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are many restaurants nearby. There is a small market and a Whole Foods within walking distance. Being from Portland, we love going to craft breweries. Anchor Brewing is less than a mile, down near Whole Foods. They give an interesting tour and tasting, though now charge $15 for what used to be free. Within 15 minute bus rides are Speakeasy and Triple Voodoo, and just a bit farther is 21st Amendment.
We loved the neighborhood - a great place to get some exercise and feel less like a tourist in this busy city. And we believe we made a good choice in staying here.
We loved the apartment...very comfortable, clean, and had everything we needed. Carter was a great host. He met us there and pointed out where we could find things. He even left us a basket with goodies for breakfast! He had great travel tips and has a chalkboard in the hallway where he encourages guests to list their favorite restaurants. Since our daughter lives nearby, I hope to stay here again!
Carter is an amazing host. This apartment was beautiful. I'm not sure when we will be back to SF but when we return we will definitely be booking with Carter again. He was incredibly helpful before our arrival. Giving us information about the city and suggesting things that we might want to see with our kids. Upon arrival he even helped us unload our luggage and take it up to the gorgeous apartment. I really can't say enough about how wonderful this stay was. Oh...to top it off we accidentally forgot the kids swim wear drying on the back porch and Carter was gracious enough to send it back to our home address. I was truly surprised at just how helpful and accommodating he was before, during and even after our stay.
As for the apartment it was beautiful and had every comfort of home. Even a washer and dryer! It was just perfect. And it's conveniently located within just a few steps from the bus stop. You can literally see the bus stop from his front step making trips up to the pier super easy.
I've stayed at many HomeAway accommodations in a number of countries. I'd rate this experience one of the more disappointing: (1) I find it hard to believe that all the earlier guests made no mention of being immediately above a freeway and the resulting noise. The noise made use of the living room with a window open pretty much impossible. (2) we had an infestation of bugs. Each day we found a few more even after we spent time killing them the day before. They were in the hallway, the front room, and the closet. (3) the rooms seemed superficially clean and this became more evident to us when the materials we were using to wipe up the bugs were filthy with dirt after that process.
Yes, a good location. A lovely shower. A well stocked kitchen. Many buses in the area. We loved the restaurants both on 24th and those near 18th and Connecticut. Our hosts provided a lovely and much appreciated welcome basket.
Overall, I found the flat to be over rated by others and I believe you can do better in this exciting city.
This apartment was the perfect place for our overnight event in San Francisco. Carter was very responsive prior to the booking. Once I arrived, he gave me a walk through of the entire place. During our stay, it was a very hot weekend and he had huge fans ready for us to use. He also provide us with some snacks when we got there. The apartment was clean and comfortable. Street parking was great (for SF). I'd definitely book this place again!
....wished I was in SF longer to really enjoy accommodations! Very clean, quiet withe really friendly & professional hosts (including their dogs). Loved the location and the fact that I wasn't staying in a hotel...felt more like home. I will reuse if the occasion ever arises. Thank you Carter & Kathleen -
Located in the best of both worlds: walking distance to the Mission district and Potrero Hill.
