LOCATION: We are on top of Chehalem Mountain on Brooks Lane off Mountaintop Road so a car is needed. Winding highway 219 is a road that leads you right into Newberg, just 5 miles down the hill (15 mins) and wineries on Bell Road are a mere 10 mins drive. It is only 90 minutes to Lincoln City and in a short two hours you are Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood or in the Columbia Gorge with its fabulous waterfalls. There is something to be seen in every direction. No location beats Newberg for its centrality or its beauty.
NEWBERG: A quaint yet lively town with great, friendly people. Our wineries cannot be matched. Redman, Adelsheim, Argyle, Penner Ash, Soter, Willakenzie , Natalie's Estate, Prive, Black Walnut Inn and Winery, Alloro, Blakeslee, Domain Drouhin, Red Ridge Farms. The list is stellar.
A stop with Andrew Turner at Valley Wine Merchants in downtown Newberg is a must! Biodynamic wines from Brick House. Redman Wines and Ayers are all neighbors (appt only)! DO NOT HESITATE TO MAKE AN APPT FOR A TASTING. It means you will have an exceptional encounter with the winery owners or wine makers themselves. Award winning white wines, and Pinots plus an Art Gallery in one stop at Trisaetum Tasting Room!! If you missed a winery, see Andrew at Valley Wine Merchants on S College St. Prive is at the foot of the hill. Alexana, Domaine Roy, White Rose, Durant is heavenly, Domaine Drouhin and Serene, Winderlea, Beaux Freres - the list goes on.
Restaurants are Painted Lady, Jory, Ruddick Wood...in Dundee we have Dundee Bistro, Red hills Market, and in McMinnville, don't miss 1882 Grille, Barberry, Thistle, LaRambla, Nick's, Maison Bistro (so authentically French!) and more. We have so much to offer. We have amazing wineries and great restaurants - a full guide with detailed descriptions awaits you!

WE ARE HERE TO ASSIST:
Let us guide you through our lovely community so you experience what other travelers might miss. I am happy to assist in planning your itinerary for a most pleasurable experience. Meet local wine makers/merchants, restaurant owners and shopkeepers personally.
We can arrange for a driver (for our guests only) to three or four wineries , the itinerary for which we discuss in advance. This takes about four hours at a rate of $100. We need a week's notice to make proper arrangements. Picnics are available upon request.
No pets are allowed - we have two large dogs - Barbara and Eddie - they are large and sweet as can be. DO NOT LET DOGS OUT OF THE YARD OR INTO THE APT. They do not have access to the guest yard, so if you see them at your door, there is something amiss. They chase cars, animals and other guests may be allergic.
Put the hot tub cover back on after using it or water will evaporate
Be kind to animals and plants
Don't rent movies on cable tv
Strip bed and leave sheets on the floor
Leave used towels on the bathroom floor
Load the dishwasher before check out
No wet hair on the mattress or pillows
I love to travel and have used VRBO in both Europe and Mexico. Europe is a favorite destination. My husband and I love animals, enjoy all that wine country has to offer. We also love restaurants, culture, drinking great wine, exploring new spots, hanging out with family and friends, running a local theater company and entertaining.
I was very active in our community through my Rotary membership for 7 years. Even though I am a co-founder of our local theater company, Chehalem Players Rep (CPR), I can say with confidence we offer spot on live-theater here in Newberg. CPR is located in downtown Newberg. If a show running during your stay, we encourage you to, come see a production. During the summer Willamette Shakespeare offers free productions at Stoller, Montinore and Ponzi for three weekends every August..
Donna Gentry and Gerry Birnbach purchased this apartment in 2008
We visited this area in 2007 and the views from Black Walnut Inn reminded us of our wedding in Italy. We sold our house in NYC and moved within 3 months. This home hooked us right away! It had all the mid-century modern features we were looking for and is perfect for entertaining. Being on top of a mountain with views didn't hurt either. It was the opposite of city living and all the stress we had lived with for 20+ years. Gerry is a Portland native so it was a return to his roots. I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana.
The downstairs was originally a double garage which we converted to a separate space for entertaining our guests. We wanted to be able to offer our friends and family who visited top quality amenities. Allow them time to relax so they could, swing in the hammock, read a book in comfort, enjoy nature, dine under the stars, enjoy the views of three mountains. I have since divided the yard with a fence which prevent guests from enjoying the mountains views - very sorry. Our location is completely private as we are surrounded by trees. The only thing missing -- was a stove in the downstairs kitchen. So, we offer a top of the line, Weber gas grill which has a cooktop side burner.
Everything you may desire by way of cooking utensils, toiletries, or even reading materials, are provided. However, if you find you are in need of something for cooking or personal, we will gladly provide to guests.
We are happy to share an insider's perspective on the area. We have made a lot of close friends. We are happy to share our love of the local restaurants, wineries and merchants in the area!
It was a fantastic stay in wine country at this spa like retreat! With the lovely garden, the wonderful amenities and lovely furnishings it was just what we wanted. We would encourage anyone to stay as long as possible. Gerry and Donna really took great care of our every need and made our stay so relaxing and comfortable. They gave us great recommendations for restaurants and wineries as well. We will be back!!
We stayed four nights centrally located to more wineries than we could visit. The Suite/Apartment was very private with great attention to detail. The entire property had been renovated with high end fixtures and appliances. Everything worked just as described in the welcome package and Donna also helped us with a few special requests which she completely had in order before we arrived. It was a fantastic place to stay and we could not have had a better time. We definitely plan to go back in a few months.
We really enjoyed our stay! The apartment is very spacious and has a huge patio for grilling and dining, relaxing by the fire or taking a soak in the hot tub. All of the amenities you'll need are thoughtfully available, and we found ourselves very relaxed and comfortable after a three-night stay. The views on your way up to the house are amazing, and it's a great starting point for exploring Willamette wine country (with plenty of good recommendations from Donna and Gerry). Highly recommended!
We had a great stay at this property! Everything was extremely clean and well put together. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend to others. We really enjoyed the outdoor seating area and all of the in house amenities.
Climbing the roads to our destination, we knew we were in for a treat. A lovely property overlooking the fertile valleys below was full of life and relaxation from the first sight. An inviting kitchen, full of everything you thought you might need and everything you didn't think you would need. A spacious lounge is replete with a generous supply of interesting reads, showing the owner's diverse tastes and experiences, and plenty of places to curl up and enjoy them. The heated floors of the bathroom are an unexpected pleasantry. The bedroom is spacious and comfortable with another spread of books and a lovely view of the active wildlife in the backyard.
Donna was gracious hostess and stopped by and give us her best recommendations before her full evening plans and every single one of them was spot on!
All in all this was precisely what we were after and precisely what was advertised; a generously relaxing and hospitable space with easy access to the community's thriving wineries and local fare (Dundee Bistro; Domaine Roy, Trisaetum, and Alexana Wineries) We would be so thrilled to return and see even more of this special slice of Oregon.
We had a great stay in Newberg. This was our second trip to the area and found the location to be ideal for our wine tasting weekend.
We stayed here over Christmas and founded it to be the perfect space for us to see family AND have some space for ourselves. Close to the wine country but not too far from town. Appreciated having a good strong WiFi signal. Loved the steam room and heated bathroom floor. Beautiful location and amazing hosts. Looking forward to booking with them many more times. Thanks for sharing your home.
There are almost 300 wineries in the valley region. Approximately 70 wineries, tasting rooms or wine shops are within 10-45 minutes of our home. A ton of great restaurants are really close by.
George Fox University is in downtown Newberg and we are a perfect place for parents and their college student age child to spend time while touring the campus, enjoying the game or visiting an enrolled student.
We have live theater, outdoor theater in the summer, lots of antique shops and a cultural center that is always abuzz with activity (Xmas village during the holidays) Farmers Market on Wednesdays May - Nov.
There are outdoor activities that you can enjoy seasonally: kayaking, hot air ballooning, biking, outdoor, picnics - it's all here. As we are atop Chehalem Mountain there are views of three - four mountains on clear days from our road or the top of the property!
