About Doug & Lori Petersen

Doug and Lori purchased this apartment and the surrounding property in early 2013. The building has now become a neighborhood gem. The first floor was brilliantly restored to house Valley Wine Merchants, a wine mercantile with a wall of wine that will make any wine taster giddy. The owners are excited to offer the second story (The Newberg Downtowner) to travelers from near and far. The Downtowner Newberg is filled with amazing finds from Doug's experience as an auctioneer that he couldn't wait to share.

Why Doug & Lori Petersen chose Willamette Valley

Doug's gift is seeing the potential in a property. After restoring numerous properties throughout Newberg (the kind of homes you'd see on This Old House), Doug saw the beauty and reward of restoring this building and what it could offer the community. The Downtowner Newberg was stripped to the bones and re-planned and furnished to accommodate the modern necessities of a traveler(s) to Oregon Wine Country.

What makes this apartment unique

Once you're here, your home. You're part of a neighborhood and part of the charm of the small wine and food centric community of Newberg. Walk across the street and get a cup of coffee and a baked good from Newberg Bakery, stroll down the street and visit over 50 local artists at ART Elements, go downstairs and chat with Andrew at Valley Wine Merchants and find a bottle of wine you will want to share during the holidays or go across the street to The Painted Lady for a romantic fine dining experience you'll never forget. Welcome to Downtown Newberg, welcome to our community.

We really enjoyed this place and the location cannot be beat. If you love good food and wine, everything is within walking distance. The condo is very clean, the kitchen is well equipped, and the bedrooms are comfortable and quiet. Thank you very much!

George Fox University Gem!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this lovely apartment while getting our son settled in to start his freshman year at George Fox University. It is within walking distance of the university as well at some very good Downtown Newberg Coffee houses. The apartment provided our family of 4 ample room with its 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. It was hot and humid during our stay and the fabulous air conditioning provided much need relief! The kitchen was stalked with all the cooking and implements we needs and it was great to have a dishwasher. We will stay here again! Hopefully next time we will get a chance to visit some of the local wineries! Thank you Lori for your hospitality! This apartment will be our home away from home every time we come to Newberg....that is if you will have us!

Great stay in wine country!

  • 5 of 5

This 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment is housed in the upper floor of a two-story building with a wine merchant and salon below, right in the center of Newberg. The location is fantastic, as you can are within a block of 3 great places to eat (Painted Lady, Recipe, Ruddick/Wood), next to or around the corner from wine tasting, antique shops and other boutique shops, a great area to stroll! The apartment is very clean and well appointed. It offers all the modern fully stocked kitchen and bathroom amenities, appliances and fixtures you need in a lovely space with vintage décor with retro furniture, lovely wallpaper and antiques, comfortable double beds, a spacious walk-in shower in the master bath, and a very comfortable sofa sectional. Large wide-screen TV with satellite in the living room, smaller TVs in the bedrooms, and great Wifi! What a wonderful place to stay, a place you can at once feel at home and feel pampered.

Street parking is readily available, but be aware that you can park for only 2 hours during daytime hours 7 days a week, directly in front of the apartment along College St. Park around the corner on 2nd Street where there are no restrictions. We always found space there, and it is a one-minute walk to the front door.

Lori is very responsive if you have questions or need anything before or during your stay.
