About Doug & Lori Petersen
Doug and Lori purchased this apartment and the surrounding property in early 2013. The building has now become a neighborhood gem. The first floor was brilliantly restored to house Valley Wine Merchants, a wine mercantile with a wall of wine that will make any wine taster giddy. The owners are excited to offer the second story (The Newberg Downtowner) to travelers from near and far. The Downtowner Newberg is filled with amazing finds from Doug's experience as an auctioneer that he couldn't wait to share.

Why Doug & Lori Petersen chose Newberg
Doug's gift is seeing the potential in a property. After restoring numerous properties throughout Newberg (the kind of homes you'd see on This Old House), Doug saw the beauty and reward of restoring this building and what it could offer the community. The Downtowner Newberg was stripped to the bones and re-planned and furnished to accommodate the modern necessities of a traveler(s) to Oregon Wine Country.

The apartment was incredibly clean and quaint. It was well decorated and had everything we needed.
We had a great time with my elderly parents staying in Newberg. We were there to visit our son who attends George Fox University. The apartment was close and convenient to the school as well as a variety of shops and restaurants. The stairs leading up to the apartment were a little steep, but my parents did just fine navigating them. My only complaint is in regards to the squeaky beds. They were comfortable, though.
Very cute and centrally located in downtown Newberg. Loved being able to Uber to the wineries or walk downstairs or around the corner to tasting rooms.
We are so glad you had a good time!
You had perfect weather to enjoy the wineries.
Thanks for staying with us ~
Wonderful, cozy appartment - perfect location!
Amazing appartment with everything you need. Location is perfect for morning coffee, treks into the wilderness, and afternoon wine tastings.
I'm so glad you had a great time!
Hope to host you again sometime.
Safe travels ~
Wonderful apartment in a great location.
We were four friends on a winetasting trip and the apartment was perfect for us. The beds were very comfortable, having two full bathrooms worked really well, and the whole place is clean and well appointed. We could walk to four different coffee places and restaurants and the Newberg Bakery. And there are a huge number of wineries in the area - way too many for one weekend. We will have to return and will happily stay at the apartment again.
We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and the Willamette Valley wineries!
Hope to see you again sometime....
Not an entirely pleasant experience.
This property, while having some character and located in the middle in town, was not appropriate for our family at all. We were 4 people and it was much too small for us. There was no room to put anything or store clothing. One room had no closet at all - only a few hangers on the back of a door. The other room had a small armoir with 2 hangers. It was really hard to maneuver around the bedroom. But the beds were by far the worst part of our trip. All 4 of us were so surprised by how awful they were: both were bouncy and sweeky. It was really hard to sleep. Also, we were sad there was no table/chairs for the four of us to sit and eat or play cards. On a positive note, the showers were great and the location ideal (albeit with a little street noise). This place would be good for 2 heavy sleepers who want a night or two in town.
I'm sorry you had an unpleasant experience. This is not the usual review I receive. I'm even more sorry that you weren't available to meet with us to discuss/resolve your issues. I value constructive criticism and will definitely address your concerns regarding the beds. As far as the room sizes go, I'm not able to do anything with that - each have queen beds and room to walk on either side. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in the Willamette Valley.
Great place for two couples. Close to wineries.
Beautiful design & function. Free parking on street was good. Comfortable layout. Great amenities like AC in summer. Cable was nice vs. just Netflix.
Thanks James - glad you enjoyed your stay and the much needed a/c!
Some of the attractions (kayaking & hot-air ballooning) are seasonal and are only offered June - October
