About David Will

Siobahn the Resident Co-Host Extraordinaire and I thrive on providing an exceptionally great indoor, neighborhood and outdoor guest accommodation experience.

I'm from Minneapolis, Minnesota. My first major out of state experience was out west, Bozeman MT on a family working vacation. It was the spark for a neighborhood friend and I to set our compass for a Bozeman Jun - Aug '74 summer Big Sky experience. I returned to MN and started a Cook-Chef one year program at North Hennipen County Tech. After my Cook-Chef food service program and work experience I decided to enlist in the AF late '75. Fortunate enough to land a two year GE tour. Lived in Germany as a civilian from '80 to '85. Finished a Federal Civil Service and AF Reserve career in Arlington VA.

My first personal exposure to Portland OR was the Dandy Warhols Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia release while in Arlington, VA.

Amazing little gem located on a beautiful street walking distance to great restaurants.

  • 5 of 5

We were so very happy with our entire experience at the Purple Giraffe. Siobhan got us checked in early and gave us the low down on the entire area as far as bars and restaurants, which there are plenty just a short walk away. She could not have been more helpful with our entire stay. The house is cozy and very well laid out. A lovely kitchen and great selection of local wines that you pay for on the honor system. Comfortable bed as well. Overall KILLER experience and we'll be back for sure.

Great Location, Outstanding Hospitality Make the Purple Giraffe a Unique Experience!

  • 5 of 5

After recently spending over 10 days here, we feel that in so many ways the Purple Giraffe is a unique gem. Situated in a hillside in the Mt. Tabor neighborhood, the Inn faces the gorge and never heats up. One Sunday during our stay the temp hit 100F, but inside never went above 76F! The entire unit is thoughtfully arranged with excellent appliances, along with the afternoon shaded patio to create a relaxing space. While relaxing on the patio you are surrounded by hillside garden that includes jasmine providing a relaxing scent. Location allows easy access to the renewing Montavilla neighborhood that includes the restaurant, Redwood, and bakery Hungry Heart among other dining options. Also within easy reach are the funky Hawthorne St, great dining Division St. and the rest of the resurgent SE Portland neighborhoods. An easy walk to Mt. Tabor Park (the only volcano in a US city) where miles of walking trails will provide a nice calming time. The owner David and co-host Siobhan insure everything combines for an excellent stay. My spouse and I agree that this was one of the best vacation rentals we have ever stayed in, and hope to return again to enjoy.

Great place - great neighborhood.

  • 5 of 5

From looking at the pictures - I had high hopes for the property. However, from walking through the door, all expectations were exceeded. The Inn is spacious, impeccably clean, charmingly decorated - and one of the most comfortable beds in a rental that I’ve found. The patio is a welcome bonus. We were even invited to help ourselves to the strawberries and blueberries growing around the patio.

5 stars all the way!
